Colonial National Historical Parkway

Parkway between James River and York River, along coast, inland forests and swamps. We passed through Isthmus on the way to Jamestown it connects Sandy Bay and James River with gorgeous water views.

The Colonial Parkway is a twenty-three mile scenic roadway stretching from the York River at Yorktown to the James River at Jamestown. It connects Virginia's historic triangle: Jamestown, Williamsburg, and Yorktown. We stayed in Williamsburg and were always taking this roadway to get around. No traffic lights and no commercial vehicles make this one of the best roads to drive on. Frequent pull offs on either side of the road with historical markers that have stories about this areas past. If you are in the area for history, I highly recommend driving this road and visiting the pull offs.

The Parkway is a the best stretch of road around here for scenic views. You can also stop swim, fish, or picnic along the way.

Run by mostly volunteers, it’s a great little place with TONS of history. This Texan definitely enjoyed his visit

A beautiful coastal drive featuring breathtakingly sweeping views. It's an old unmarked cobblestone road that's quite neat to drive. Highly recommend.

Road my bike the whole distance. Well you have to get off around Williamsburg because they don’t let you in the tunnel. It’s a nice ride or drive.

I love the Colonial Parkway. Such a wonderful place to take a Sunday drive. And the few stops were perfect for taking a shirt stroll.

Nice fall drive

This is such a peaceful and beautiful place to relax whether you are sitting in the car or just standing near the trees. I enjoyed the presence of peace.
