We saw their sign on I-81 and decided to stop for an early breakfast. Quaint older restaurant in the downtown area. We were quickly seated and served coffee. My wife had a Blueberry Pancake and I had a triple stack of Pancakes with thick Virginia Ham. Best ham that I've had in a long time! We only have thin ham in SC. Friendly service. Reasonable pricing.

I stepped in to Southern Kitchen and took a wonderful step back in time. The old booth juke boxes were in all the booths, old decor, and clean.
I really enjoyed the All Meat Omelet.
Very good food.

This is my first time back here is 15 years and I will definitely make sure it isn't that long again.
This place is wonderful! Comfort food that will take you back to your childhood.
Lloyd's fried chicken is second to none... Save some space for desert too...they're ridiculous.

Great little southern restaurant with all it's charm near Shenandoah Valley and Luray Caverns.
Get the hush puppies. And then get more to take home with you. They are so good and keep so well. Even cold, they are delicious.
The fried chicken was really good, just needed a bit more salt but that's up to personal taste. The breast was nice and juicy, no problems there.
Friendly staff and cashier. Don't sleep on this spot!

This restaurant has become a go to place on my commute from NY to FL. It is great southern cooking with wonderful home made food stuffs. BUT I have a go to meal. Go ahead... guess. YES! you are right it is the fried chicken. AND if you have any appetite left, try the pie. ANY of the pies!

When I tell you the food was to die for, I mean it. Everything we had, from the fried Green beans to the chicken, was amazing. If you're passing through or in the area, this place is a must to stop at for some lunch. Not to mention the service we received, top tier. Everyone was so friendly and kind, they did whatever they could to make sure we were taken care of.

Food is just amazing! They are known for their fried chicken. They also have a steak for 2. Try it, You'll love it and great sides and homemade desserts.

I really liked this off the beat and path restaurant. We got off of interstate 81 into this cute little town called New Market VA. The town itself just screams home cooking!! I got the fried chicken and It was one of the best I've had hands down. My husband got the sirloin tips and he really enjoyed them as well. Every thing we had was really good. The service was also great I must say.

I haven’t been to Southern Kitchen since I was very little under 5 years of age. I am now 19. Coming back here was amazing experience, I enjoyed the Chicken, and the two sides I ordered. Price was very reasonable. If you are looking for a place to eat they have the best Chicken in the Shenandoah Valley. 10/10 recommend this restaurant to anyone.

This is a great little place. The food was fantastic. Definitely lots to eat for the money. Liza was our server and she was great! She never missed a beat even with it being busy. It’s a great old style diner which was definitely homie.

Delicious hamburger steak with baked potato and salad. Topped it off with a slice of apple caramel cheesecake 😋 Our waitress was the best! Nice, friendly staff. It's an authentic retro restaurant.

Quaint local eatery. There were 10 of us in our party. Ordered lots of different items and everyone was pleased with the food. It was a great small town experience for our family. Our waitress Faye made us feel welcomed and like family. Fun experience

Came from out of town for the weekend and wanted a nice local diner to go to for breakfast. This place was amazing. The service was great. The food was great. Everything was great. Definitely recommend.

Are all tried to order something different. Fried chicken and chicken fried steak or both amazing! So were the potato wedges! Mac and cheese needed salt so did the beets, but everything else was really good. You can see we had and all the different sides! Next is dessert!! Coconut cream pie , and apple fritters for dessert.
The coconut cream or actually coconut meringue pie was the best thing of the night! If I lived anywhere near here or anywhere near Virginia.. or any closer than 350 mi lol... I would come back.😀😀
Last note, We just had the chef and the baker come over to ask him how he made the meringue for the coconut meringue pie. He was so sweet, he told us it was just meringue although it tasted like it had whipped cream in it. we ordered two pieces of coconut meringue pie to take home with us to eat under the stars tonight !

We ate breakfast and dinner here OMG! BEST Fried Chicken I have ever eaten. Food was marvelous. I would go back here anytime in in the area

Some of the best fried chicken we've ever had. Everything is real home-cooked, made with love kind of food. My daughter got the chicken soup to start - it was simply delicious! We all (5 of us) got the fried chicken after reading other reviews and were not disappointed. Chicken was so flavorful. Sides were great too! Would go back in a heartbeat!

Went and had lunch here after visiting the caverns, Tracey is the one who recommended it. Everything was fresh and flavorful! The peanut butter pie was the absolute best, I'll definitely be back the next time my crew is in town

SK is on the downtown strip. The place has a big parking lot, which was a plus. Street parking looks a little congested
The interior was bright. It has a diner type bar with stools. We took a booth in the first room. The second dining room looks pretty similar. So far SK seemed adequate.. we were traveling to Atlanta and spent one night in town.
The Renee, our waitress, came and guided us through the menu. With her expertise we had an awesome southern kitchen dinner. I had chicken fried steak with a side of Mac and cheese. All homemade. You can imagine how delicious it was. Service was delightful. Food was delicious. If you find yourself in Newmarket get over there.
Almost forgot. We had a hot fudge sundae 🍨. Get one.
