This Museum in the heart of downtown Norfolk is well worth the visit and does not take too much of your time. The staff on hand are very knowledgeable in history of the house and the family who lived there.

The Hunters were prominent bankers of the greater Norfolk area and made their own impact on the community through banking and medical practice. Sadly none of them had children to continue their legacy but instead made their home into a museum to educate the next generations of Norfolk.

Better than most (every?) other historical home tour because it preserves all the actual furnishings of the original residents. Somehow they manage to keep it free to visitors, yet they still maintain friendly, knowledgeable tour guides and informative displays throughout the generously accessible premises. It makes it easy to buy from their cool gift shop when the free admission feels like a steal! Definitely worth your time. Parking on premises. About 30 minutes to see everything.

This place is awesome. On my birthday the hunter house museum staff hosted me a nice tea party. The tour was amazing. They were very informal. My guess are talking about coming back if you have an event and you’re a Victorian era fan like me. Hosting a get together or a birthday is perfect at Hunter House Museum. The staff was friendly and catered to our needs.

The house & garden is beautiful, the people are friendly, engaging, & knowledgeable, and the Edgar Allen Poe night was perfect! Can’t wait to attend more events here.

We had such a fabulous time here at the Victorian Museum! We went as a homeschool field trip and my daughters favorite era in history is the Victorian era. We were not at all disappointed!

They had a mourning exhibit which was so amazing! Loved all the post Mortem photography which was popular at the time. Enjoyed seeing all the pictures and other artifacts.

The tour guide was so nice and informative. Highly recommend you go! Call for more info on their tea times. At the end they also have a nice gift shop and I got a book on “the Victorian guide of how to raise flawless children.” Lol

We got a tour from a very kind and informative young woman named Katherine. It was just the two of us so we got her all to ourselves and we were not disappointed with the amount of knowledge shared about the time period. Everything was really different at that time and they do a wonderful job at telling that story.

Awesome guided walk through of the house. Pretty neat history and preservation. I'm not sure the family that owned and lived in that house had any real significance, but the fact it's still here for us to tour is great to see.

Really neat and well-preserved piece of history. It's fascinating to learn about how the inhabitants lived in this house, and its beautifully kept inside, despite some historical alterations beyond control of the organization. They offer both guided and self-guided tours and have unique bits and bobs with historical information. They highly encourage arranging your tour ahead of time, but do allow walk-in tours if able. We passed through in about an hour or so, and the gift shop has some unique finds. Worth a visit for history lovers! I would say to leave little ones at home as they don't want anyone touching objects in the house!

A hidden gem! It's like stepping back in time, as most of the furniture is authentic from the 1890s and the rooms are decorated as they would have been in that era. The tour guides are highly knowledgeable, passionate, and responsive. Be sure to call ahead of time to reserve a spot! There is street parking and also a small parking lot behind the house.

A hidden gem locals will benefit from as much as tourists! Our tour guide, Doug, was knowledgeable, passionate, and his personal local history added to the experience. There's so much to see you could to do this tour several times and continue to learn something new. They also have a rotation of exhibits which makes it new every time. Will definitely return for new exhibits and this rare exposure into the past. (Thank you to the Hunter family and those that have maintained not only their history, but that of the time they lived.) Highly recommend!

This incredible place has become my home away from home. The staff and docents, are incredible, and the diversity of those who have chosen to volunteer at the house makes the experience that much more rewarding. We all came to the house for different reasons, be it for education purposes or just personal interest. The doors are open to everyone. I was personally drawn to the house for a lecture a year ago, and I’m now part of a wonderfully unique family. I look forward to enjoying many more years at this wonderful, welcoming museum 💕
