The people here are amazing and the workouts are tough but fun! Kurt is a great trainer and makes sure you don’t injure yourself, he takes his time to explain every workout before doing them. 10/10 highly recommend

I was looking to start strength training and found the perfect gym in Hale Strength and Shape. The owners / instructors are knowledgeable and welcoming. They’ve created a community of strong and encouraging women (who look amazing too)!

After the first class, I was sold…6 years and going strong!! Scratch that….6 years and growing stronger!! :)

I’ve been coming to Hale Strength and Shape for almost 2 years now, only working out at large gyms prior to that. There is no comparison. The level of Kurt’s knowledge and experience plus the encouragement of the women who train there is awesome. All the classes and instructors are great. It is important to me to stay strong and fit, and this is the place to do that!

I am a Registered Nurse and I have spent 35+ years working as a Fitness Professional. I have owned a fitness studio for 16+ years and NEVER considered attending any outside gym facility until I heard about Kurt Hessenbruch and HALE Strength & Shape. After my first session at HALE, I knew that Kurt was the strength training coach I needed and could absolutely TRUST! The women who train at HALE are truly second to none! The instructors who teach classes at HALE are extraordinary at what they do!

HALE is amazing! The Women's Group Strength class is the best fitness-related thing that has ever happened to me. The workouts are challenging (but doable!), different every time, and definitely help to improve my strength. I am someone who gets pretty intimidated by going to the gym, but it's nearly impossible to be intimidated at this place because everyone is so friendly and the small class sizes make it more comfortable. I highly recommend HALE!

Hale Strength and Shape is a small, fantastic gym in Plymouth. I've been a participant for over 3 years. There are many classes to choose from - strength training, yoga, metabolic conditioning, barre and a few others. I absolutely love this place! The owners are wonderful people and the women (only women) who work out here are some the most encouraging, positive and badass women on the planet! I have lost many pounds and inches and I had a blast while doing it! If you haven't tried Hale, do it!

I've done fitness classes and weight training before, but never quite like HALE. Started coming here 1.5 years ago, and have been hooked ever since. There are lots of options for classes, such as strength, metabolic conditioning, strong woman classes, yoga, barre, cardio classes, and there are nearly every fitness type present, from beginners to those winning strong woman competitions. Being in an all-female gym supports a comforting environment compared to commercial-type gyms, and the women present support each other in their victories, instead of shame each other for their body types. Kurt, as well as the other class trainers, is knowledgeable and supportive, and modifies each work-out to an individual's ability. If you've been wanting to join a gym, but are scared of not knowing what to do, or don't want to be alone in trying to accomplish your goals, then come join a community of women who will cheer you along your entire way.

Hale is such a great place to work out! I was new to strength training and Kurt has made sure I learn the right motions for every lift and has kept me motivated to keep coming back and get stronger.
Kristina's barre class in the west garage is awesome and will sure keep you coming for more!
Deanna's HIIT Vinyasa is outstanding in every way from start to finish. It is addictive!
And the best part is that everybody in this gym is so welcoming and encouraging that I am always looking forward to my workouts at Hale.

Hale is a gym that gets everything right about women's health and fitness. I've been lifting for close to 3 years, and this is the only gym I've ever stepped into and thought, "Yes, finally, this is where I belong." Every other gym or fitness facility I've ever attended or worked for has been home to some degree of phoniness, BS, gimmick, fad and/or unnecessary drama. Not Hale. This is where you go if you want to share the experience of working out with women that lift each other up, of instructors who love what they do, and owners who care about you and your goals. Hale is where you go if you want to be strong in every sense of the word.

There are not enough nice things I can write about this women's only gym. After moving to Michigan form the south, and spending my first winter here depressed, I decided I needed to be proactive and try to make friends and to exercise on a consistent basis to help get me through the next winter. Luckily, I found HALE! It became a place where I was able to accomplish both of those goals. The owners have done a wonderful job creating a gym culture where women can move past their comfort zone, while they work towards their fitness goals. It is a diverse community of women who support and encourage one another, and who genuinely want to see each other succeed. This gym is my version of a spa. I get to escape here, check my "mom card" at the door, and spend an hour getting in a really good workout and leave feeling like I have accomplished something. I have been going to this gym for over three years now, and I still get excited about every workout. Not to mention, I have made some amazing friends here as well. There are no mirrors and no judgement, so you can come to this gym and try things that you never thought you might try, and have fun doing it! I love HALE!!!!!!!!!!!!

About 18 months ago I had my first session at HALE. I walked in there super confident. I was always the strongest girl in all of my fitness classes elsewhere. And then...Wow. I was humbled. These women were....AMAZINGLY strong...stronger than any women I've ever worked out with before. But of equal importance, they were SO DAMN NICE. And funny...and sarcastic...and warm. I laugh SO much when I'm there. It is truly a community that embraces all women at all fitness levels and empowers them to be the best they can be. I enjoy working out at HALE more than I have anywhere in all of my 20+ years of fitness. I no longer feel humbled. I just feel, powerful!

Love Hale and everything it has to offer. The owners are wonderful people. All the women are very encouraging. I've been attending the strength class for close to 1 1/2 years now and I can honestly say I feel and look like the best shape I've been in in my life! I am 45 miles from Hale, the long drive doesn't stop me from going, I love HALE!!

Love HALE! Each class can be tailored to individual fitness levels which takes away the fear of trying something new. Kurt provides a lot of guidance in the strength classes and the instructors for the other classes (barre, yoga, pilates, cardio sculpt and cardio hip hop) are so encouraging and helpful. Everyone is super friendly and supportive which made me feel right at home immediately!

HALE has been my safest space to try the craziest things (believe me, just working out three times a week is crazy in my world). The owners and instructors are supportive, knowledgeable, patient, and challenging. However, it is the community of women that makes HALE so incredibly unique. Women from near and far come together to support each other no matter what our goals are. We struggle, we laugh, we accomplish, and we laugh some more. The cardio offerings are effective and enjoyable, the strength offerings are challenging but suited to exactly you, and the Sculpt, Barre, and Gyro offerings are led with attention to form, kinesthetic applications, and the perfect amount of cardio. All of this and I haven't even mentioned their Yoga classes! For once, I have found a yoga series that manages to suffuse inner peace and reflection while blaring hip hop, alternative, and classic rock.

If you are a woman looking to be inspired at the best gym in Metro Detroit, then you've come to the right place!

HALE Strength and Shape is so much more than just a "lady gym" - it's a family. We support each other, celebrate and encourage one another. We watch one another's children, celebrate pregnancies, marriages, birthdays and the birth of children. We have "girls night out" and have the biggest fan section at any local strongwoman show in the area.

At this gym, it doesn't matter if you're a size 0 or a size 26. It doesn't matter if you're in high school or celebrating your 60th birthday. It doesn't matter if your goals are to be fit, to be strong, to lose/gain weight, to make friends, or to be a nationals-level competitor. We've got all of the above.

When your gym starts in a small garage in Plymouth and explodes via word of mouth, you've got a good thing going. You will leave feeling like a badass. Like a fighter. Like a success. Like a woman. A strong woman.

Do yourself a favor and give it a shot. There is a reason so many women are so dedicated to something they never imagined they would be. HALE speaks for and sells itself.
