Neue Galerie New York

The museum was awesome after watching the movie "Woman in Gold". We visited on a wet windy day, and there was a line. There is a line for the museum and the cafe upstairs. But the cafe downstairs doesn't have that wait or line, but it's small and tight down there. But it serves the same menu as the one upstairs. The food is authentic and good. It's hard finding good German/Austrian food in America, but this is the spot.

This Galerie is small but full of fabulous art. Unfortunately on our visit a few galleries were closed so call ahead to make sure the full collection is open. As an architect I thoroughly enjoyed the building as well. When we arrived there was a line but it was for the cafe. If you buy a ticket you can skip the line and go to the basement cafe. Dessert was simply amazing!

Finally saw Woman in Gold in person. Although photography was not allowed, it was great experience to walk around such an exquisite gallery.

My favorite gallery in the city. It’s lovely, upkept, and warm. The collection is small but impressive. I never feel overwhelmed or overstimulated here as I often do at the Met or MoMa. The cafe offers a lovely experience that compliments the art. A lot of museum cafes are icky food with a high price tag. Cafe Sbarsky is elegant, delicious, and high quality. I look forward to having a coffee and pastry after wandering the gallery.

Enjoyed visiting Neue Galerie. I could've spent hours looking at Klimpt's portrait of Adele. There were portraits of Gertrud Loew as well which was mesmerizing. It was a quiet and small gallery I could enjoy without rushing (not like in front of Van Gogh's Starry Night at the MoMA). I wish they allowed photography since I loved the portrait of Adele, but I guess not allowing photography made this gallery so peaceful. I would revisit just to see a portrait of Adele. The price could be lower considering how small the gallery is compared to MoMA and Met, but it was worth it.

Love this Museum, been twice this past summer to see the Klimt landscapes. it’s a beautiful museum as it’s in an old turn of the century mansion. Haven’t tried the restaurant yet but people love it and there’s always a line to get in, so plan for extra time if you want to eat at the restaurant or you can go downstairs to the less fancy cafe.

We reserved an afternoon time slot to see the Klimt Landscape exhibit. It was lovely, small scale, very do-able, and full of information on Klimt. These are paintings that don't normally travel, so was a treat. Beautiful mansion.

This is one of my favorite museums in NYC. I absolutely adore Gustav Klimt’s paintings.

Small but very nicely laid out gallery with an interesting Klimt collection. Make sure to book tickets in advance or come as soon as they open, otherwise the line gets pretty long. However it is fairly expensive, at $28 it's the same price as MoMA for a much smaller collection.

Small but really nice Klimt's work. You have to look the original piece. It is facinating.

Everyone should experience the Woman in Gold in their lifetime. For me, she is breath taking and captivating. A must see. Strongly suggest purchasing tickets in advance. My wait time was less than 5 minutes compared to the 30 person deep line.

Service was exceptional. Atmosphere was perfect for a delicious Coffee Kreme and apricot crepes! Will definitely visit again!

The Neue Galerie is a world renowned and well regarded museum based in Manhattan, New York.

In May of 2023, I brought and treated my wife for a visit to the Neue Galerie and we very much enjoyed our time there.

The building that contains the museum is referred to as the William Starr Miller House.
Designed by the prominent 20th Century architectural firm, Carrere and Hastings, the house once served as the residence for William Starr Miller, a successful industrialist and real estate operator, and subsequently, owned by Grace Vanderbilt, an American socialite, and the spouse of Cornelius Vanderbilt III, an American inventor, and member of the Vanderbilt Family.

Today, the Miller House is owned and occupied by the Neue Galerie museum. The museum was established by Ronald S. Lauder, a highly successful entrepreneur and philanthropist as a tribute to his friend, Serge Sarbasky an eminent 20th Century art collector and dealer.

Neue Galerie primarily features early 20th Century German & Austrian art. When visiting the museum, both my wife and I enjoyed viewing the paintings by Gustav Klimt and Oskar Kokoschka.

Our favorite painting was Klimt’s work, Portrait of Adele Bloch-Bauer I, also called The Lady in Gold. We not only found this to be a stunning painting, but we also admired its incorporation of Byzantine, Egyptian & Greek artistic elements.

If you love early 20th Century German & Austrian art, then you should definitely visit and explore the Neue Galerie

It is on until May 8th. Try to make the time.

Got in for free as part of company perks. They don't allow photos. They have 2 small floors of exhibits. Pretty small museum. I don't think I would pay with my own money to see this. I heard the cafe here is really good but I didn't visit

My experience at the museum today was wunderbar! While they are currently only showing the Klimt collection, the pleasant and helpful staff in the museum, as well as in the gift shop and the on-site café Sabarsky featuring Austrian cuisine, including hot and cold drinks such as you might find in a Viennese café, a large selection of cakes, as well as brunch items, salads and full meals, made this a world-class five star worthwhile visit. There is a coat check available as well that includes the ability to check larger backpacks, and it was mentioned that the third floor galleries will be open eventually later in the year, so it will be even more of an enriching experience as the year progresses.

It's definitely not a massive-kind but the collection--including those by Klimt, Schiele and Kandinsky--is powerful and impressive. The building and lighting in it are also refined and elegant. The unexpected gem was the museum store which almost felt like an art piece itself.

Beautiful exhibit of Klimt Landscapes! Small and nice museum but make sure you use coatcheck as you cannot carry your coat around (you.must wear it or tie it around your waist).

My favorite gallery in New York ✨ There is something so special about this place. The portrait of Adele Bloch Bauer I is a master piece. Also love The Dancer. Best Klimts in the city. Came in on the first friday of the month (free entry!) and had a great time, although only one room was open. I 1000% recommend watching the 2015 Woman in Gold movie before coming in to appreciate the artwork more. Also recommend making a stop in Café Sarbasky when coming in (and reserving ahead if on a weekend)!

Established in 2001, located in the William Starr Miller House. This museum has a nice Gustav Klimt collection. Current exhibit is Max Beckman. Security is tighter than other big museums. No water, no photos allowed. Courteous and professional staff.
