Cafe Balagan

Balagan was an oasis for me and my partner during a stressful grad school experience. The coffee is third wave, always fantastic and I am very fussy. I prefer their brewed coffee and cortado with oat milk. The atmosphere is charming and cozy like being tucked into a corner cafe in a busy European city or in the living room of your favorite author friend who has a spectacular way with plants. The music is also excellent and many songs we have plucked for our wedding playlists. We took engagement photos here; frequently brought our pup, Felix who was adored; I wrote many papers here and we felt cared for each and every time. Now we are moving out of state and Balagan and those who make it home will be greatly missed; especially, Gil (the fabulous owner), Valerie (his partner and plant and paint artist), Noah (an intuitive painter and music aficionado) and Sierra (always ready with a smile and kind word). I highly recommend.

This place was sooo good on a cold winter day. The latte and muffin I got were amazing! The staff were very patient and kind, and even brought my coffee over to me when it was ready! The atmosphere was perfect for sitting on the couch and reading, but there were also people working, studying, and meeting with friends. There’s a good amount of seating options. I parked at the library and walked over and it was very convenient to get to.

I can't say enough good things about Cafe Balagan. The moment I walked in, I was greeted with smiles and a warm atmosphere. Their place range is extensive, offering something for everyone. The staff are knowledgeable and always ready to help. I left the cafe feeling extremely satisfied and will definitely be a returning customer. Highly recommend!

Took a quick trip to Northampton a few months ago and this was our fave spot we visited. The staff was so friendly and the food was great. The juice I had was so refreshing.

Best new coffee shop in town!!!!! Open, airy vibe with great coffee! The owner, Gil, is SUCH a nice guy. Quick service, so it’s a great place to grab a coffee and go, or sit and enjoy on a nice afternoon. Soo happy with my experience here. I’ll definitely be back soon!!

Didn’t know this place had taken over the Green Bean spot. Very good coffee. Baked goods from Small Oven! Highly recommend checking it out.

Very cute place. I have been here a couple times and everyone is so friendly. Oatmilk latte and a croissant and you can't go wrong.

I ordered their hot chocolate with marshmallows, and it was delicious.

It was a good experience. Very nice staff and good coffee/food. The coffee was tasty but not watered down. It hit the spot. The also suggested some good desserts that went well with our drink.

I've never been so satisfied by coffee. Their carmelita is a joy. Get a large. Get two.

Some people seem to be sleeping on this place, so let me be super clear: this is far and away the best coffee and espresso in Northampton. It is perfect every time. The vibe of the cafe is immaculate, the music is wonderful, the baristas are kind, and the food is delicious. This place is an absolute treasure and must be protected at all costs
