Just amazing. Every single time everyone is so kind here and so fast. The food is amazing too and tastes so homemade. I love the idea of family style dining.
The atmosphere just reminds everyone of their grandma's house.
Amazing, especially for birthdays :)

It took us 45 minutes to get there, but it was worth the drive. The food was real homemade just like grandma's or aunt Louis's and lots of it!! The serving bowls were never empty. The service was on point nerve an empty glass. They have an excellent wine list 😋 and the best biscuit!!

This was amazing experience! Great service a nice family feal. Food was next level. You order food for the table and eat like a thanksgiving meal I had chiekcn and roast beef as my meat and so many sides. Finished off with a cup of apple cobbler all for a very reasonable $65. I would highly recommend taking the drive out here for a great meal

We went Sunday after our lunch plans were changed last minute. We called ahead for a reservation and the process couldn't have been simpler. They even pushed our reservation up 30 minutes when we were ahead of time. I grew up on fried chicken, black eyed peas, stewed tomatoes and cornbread and this was the best I've had since my grandmother passed away. The service was quick, friendly, and went way beyond expectations. The entire staff was friendly and glad to answer questions and talk about their food and history, you could tell they were all proud to work there and proud of the food they served. The restaurant is definitely dated and may be missing some modern conveniences but the atmosphere was cute and comfortable. The only negative about the entire visit was trying not to slip into a food coma on the trip back to town.

A 30 minute drive from Glen Allen on Route 6 (Patterson Ave) on the right side of the road is the wonderful Tanglewood Ordinary Restaurant. The short drive was well worth the trip for a "family style" (all you can eat), home cooked, southern meal.
We had Fried Chicken, BBQ, Corn Bread, Biscuits, Green Beans, Cole Slaw, Mixed Greens, Carrots, Mashed Potatoes & Gravy!! The food had good depth of flavor, without being overly salty, or greasy, the chicken was crispy well cooked without being dry, the veggies were well seasoned, and the desserts were delicious - a perfect ending to the meal (but do yourself a favor and try the Buttermilk Pecan Pie) My wife a self proclaimed Pecan Pie Snob, would make the drive just for the Pie!!
The staff were friendly, helpful, warm and welcoming, explaining how it all worked, and attentive to our needs. We enjoyed every bite, but there was more we could have chosen from, and the menu changes on the weekends! Things like Pot Roast, homemade Mac & Cheese... Oh my gosh... We must come back!!!
If you haven't tried it, make a reservation, and enjoy the drive.

Husband’s 89th birthday with 7 friends. We were treated so special and had a very wonderful dinner and
they made him a chocolate on chocolate birthday cake from scratch. It was delicious and he had plenty to take home to enjoy later. Could not have been any better. Will come again.

The Dried Chicken is to die for, the brownie sundae was delicious, The atmosphere takes you back in time 40 or 50 years, and the service was Stellar. The food reminds me very much of my grandma's from my childhood.

Highly recommend this Powhatan local gem to anyone in the area!

The atmosphere was so cozy and warm, and the weight staff so personable. The fried chicken and mashed potatoes and collard greens were out of this world! I absolutely loved my first visit there.

Family style dining, friendly servers, loads of food! My personal favorite was the pulled pork. Lots to choose from and second helpings were offered. Charming rustic atmosphere. Good for large groups as well as small.

A great place for southern comfort food! May be too pricey for some ($21.99 for all-you-can eat plus $7-$8 for dessert), but well worth the price! Service was excellent and friendly. Don't miss this family owned and operated (and oriented) gem!

Absolutely amazing food and staff. Literally the tastiest fried chicken I have ever had. I loved the atmosphere and the family style dining. Still getting the homey feeling without having to a cook is a win. We'll definitely be going back. A bit pricey but worth it for the all you can eat.

Real country cooking. Family style all you can eat. Every dish stands out. I wouldn't change a thing. The fried chicken was as tender as I have ever eaten. The mashed potatoes were so good my wife asked for the secret. Green beans, black eyed peas, pot roast, corn bread, biscuits, and more. Each dish a stand out. Excellent service. Unique restaurant. Good country cooking. 5 stars all the way.

Excellent food, atmosphere and service. Tanglewood Ordinary restaurant in Maiden, Va serves "every table" bowls of fried chicken, mashed potatoes, gravy, green beans, pinto beans, stewed tomatoes, cole slaw, cornbread and rolls ... and your choice of TWO additional meats: ham, roast beef or pulled pork. They'll bring additional food as requested when a bowl is empty.

We were in town for a family get together, and my dear uncle and aunt took us out to this restaurant for the evening meal.
It has such a quiet, homey, country feel, I felt as if we were in our own kitchen in our country home.
The service was phenomenal, as was the food. We had family style dining, and I can’t even begin to record all the various dishes we consumed! It was delicious!
A special thank you to the establishment from the Massey Family from Southwest Tennessee.

This was a place I've driven by in the past but never bothered to stop at until today. Advertised on their front sign "Fried chicken like grandma makes". Which is a bit of an eye roll every time to hear about it, but I decided today to give it a go. What an amazing experience that followed.

Walking in you are immediately transported back in time. Proudly displayed on the door are plaques proclaiming this a "historical structure". According to our server it was "probably built in the early 1800's". You can still see the hand cut logs that make up the super structure, all apparently lovingly maintained and sealed to prevent decay. The dining hall (because that is what it is) in the back was the biggest surprise. You would not assume they had so much space, but boy do they. This was clearly a space for large parties. There are booths and tables for groups smaller then 5, but expect a wait for one of those if you don't have a reservation.

When they say "Family Dining", they mean this literally much to my surprise. In much the same way they advertise Grandma's chicken. This is a place to bring the whole crew, sit down and have whatever is for dinner that day. There is no Menu, you will be served what is on offer. Which is apparently always fried chicken, and then a rotation of accompanying meat dishes such as pot roast, ham, roast beef and so on. This extreme minimalism however trends itself to the extreme quality you usually expect from a very expensive high end restaurant and not one that charges a base dinner fee per head like Golden Corral. They don't make everything, but what they do make is done correctly.

This is American Food at its finest.

Not reimagined. Not made more expensive. Not twisted and contorted by someone more artist then cook. Just the dishes of classic Americana, made absolutely, completely, perfectly. The meal started with Cornbread, Biscuits and probably the most delicious coleslaw I have ever eaten. They then brought out the main course which was Fried chicken, my accompanying meat choice (I went with roast beef), and in order, stewed black eyes peas, green beans, mashed red potatoes, tomato sauce, gravy.

The roast beef was passable and clearly not the star. Probably my only complaint about the entire meal. Only in that it was nowhere near as good as everything else. If served by itself anywhere else it would have been great. Especially once some of that gravy was put on it.

The chicken was where the real joy was. A little hint of spice, fried perfectly, and amazing. But for all you vegetarians out there, the real stars in my opinion were the accompanying vegetables. The Tomato sauce was amazing and I immediately set it aside to take home and use later in one of my own dishes. I've never liked Black Eyes Peas in my life, but these were delicious and tender, and when combined with the mashed potatoes and gravy, I was instantly transported back to Sunday dinners when I was 8 years old at Grandmas house.

The advertising was serious. What an amazing shock.

They apparently have great deserts too, but the main course slammed me with enough food left over for another dinner tomorrow so I had to pass. On that note, if you have a large party this is the place to go. I saw a group of 10 people seated and immediately baskets of cornbread, biscuits and pitchers of Tea were on the way to their table. I also overheard the manager talking to a young couple about wedding catering. Which is apparently something they can do.

There was also a beer and wine menu with a good selection so fear not! While you don't get to tell Grandma what to cook for Dinner, she does make sure you have plenty of libation to go with it.

My whole family loved the food & environment. The service is top quality! They raved of the experience all the way home. We will surely be coming back soon!
