Lorton Library

We stopped into the newly opened Lorton Library today. It was a bit smaller than I expected, but it was nicely laid out. Everything was fresh and bright with lots of windows on the library side.

There was an assortment of seating options throughout the library, particularly in the kids area. The young kids area is open to the rest of the library, but somewhat separated by a large open doorway. They thoughtfully put a family bathroom right next to the kids books, in addition to the traditional bathrooms right near the entrance to the library. The traditional women's bathroom had three stalls with a toddler safety seat in the larger handicap stall. The door to enter the bathroom has a handicap accessible button to automatically swing the door open.

They've decorated the children's area with a fun tree that has seats around the base. There are also windows with wide frames that kids can sit on to view the cars going by. As a parent of young kids, I appreciated the lack of computers with games as some other libraries have done. There were computers near to the kids area, but they were off to the side and not as enticing as the books. Additionally, they created a teen room complete with a door to quiet any noise they might make, books, large screen tvs, and couches.

They were still working on some construction aspects in the foyer area when we visited, and at this time we have not checked out the community center side of the building.

Outdoors they have both a playground and an adjacent workout area that adults could use (or kids could possibly climb around on). They also thoughtfully included several picnic tables with attached awnings between the two. One of the tables included a shorter bench to be accessible by a wheelchair user.

This is a nice and quiet local library. It recently tore down and they rebuilt another one. I think it's about the same size as it was before but I'm not sure.

Everything looks new and modern though and there was an addition of the local exercise area attached to the building as well. All in all a very nice library for our smallish community. There's also a nice playground with new equipment for both small children and adults.

Plus libraries are just awesome and I love going to mine.

Recently renovated with an outdoor playground and field for kids and a children's place inside the library. It's also in the same building as the Lorton Community Center.

Amazing library and space! Private meeting/study rooms; quiet rooms; workspaces; delightful open space; EV charger!!; incredible helpful staff .... I love it there.

I love this library. There are so many things to do. Story time for kids and other activities for adults.

Newly remodeled, it's a beautiful library with a really nice children's area. Lots of places to sit and read, a well stocked selection of books, friendly librarians, and even toys you can borrow from the front desk. The playground is fantastic! Lots of climbing equipment that you don't see often at other playgrounds in the area.

Stuff were amazing and helpful to find my needs.
The place is quite and there are many quite areas to study or do meetings.
Various books and new arrivals too.
There are many activities you can participate in and conference's rooms for courses.
Good activities for children too.

The librarians are very kind and helpful. The space is bright, open, warm, and welcoming. The shelves of books for sale are also fun to browse through.

Dropping off our absentee ballots at new community center, so checked out the new library in same building, as well. Beautiful! My library card needed to be reactivated and staff was very professional and helpful. I look forward to going back and spending more time there once everything fully moved in!

Super duper helpful employees helped us today. Although I couldn't remember my passwords to my websites... perfectly clear and precise instructions were provided to complete all the task I inquired about when I entered.

Beautiful atmosphere. Quiet room and group room for more focus. Kid friendly space. Playground outside also.

This is not the biggest library in the Fairfax County system, but is one of the most welcoming. Every librarian is kind and patient with each interaction. They are willing to assist every patron to find what they need. They have even been kind enough to offer reading suggestions, as I am always in pursuit of a good book. Nomatter how my day has gone, they always bring a smile to my face and my day feels a bit lighter. In fact, if they didn't close, i think I would never leave. 🥴 i love this library! The only change I would make - make it bigger!

There has never been a time that I or my children have not been greeted with a welcoming smile as we walk through the library doors. The librian's are always kind, gracious and willing to help.
