Chopawamsic Backcountry Area

Beautiful area and it’s completely free! Beautiful mile hike in from the parking lot. Only thing that was a little annoying was the Marine base right next door that was doing their weapons training or something.

Loved it! It's not bushy like some other places. The camp spot 7 and 2 are on hills. It's safe and well kept.

Primitive! But closed in middle winter :-(

This is a nice primitive camp ground with a stream near by. The only problem is the marine base firing off weapons during the day. I enjoyed it and will be back. I like this better than the crowded camping grounds. No fires allowed.

Definitely not my favorite part of Prince William Forest Park. It is gated, so you have to check in at the visitor center to check out a key. There are about 2 miles of trail and I think 8 camp sites. The colors on the trails seemed to change between yellow and white and it wasnt always clear when a trail was going to a campsite or continuing on.

Absolutely lovely if you're OK being kept awake by automatic gunfire for half the night. Also expect some pushback from the rangers if you show up to check in with a bicycle.

Id like to revise my review soon as I can contact someone. I called the number on the sign. It goes to voice mail and the VM isn't set up. It then hangs up. How do you get in, how much is a night stay, are there any bathrooms, showers?
