Byron Municipal Court

I’ve sat and listened to a lot of criminal cases in live court as well as traffic cases in live court in many different counties for various reasons. This judge is honestly really fair, one of the nicest and most fair and forgiving judges I’ve ever seen. If you had unfavorable circumstances here you probably deserved them. I wasn’t here for myself but in support for someone else. This court room felt more like a friend/family reunion than anything. You could really feel the good vibes and energy. I would highly recommend some other court systems take notes from this court house and its staff. Our criminal system has gotten so focused on labeling and criminalizing as opposed to offering guidance and corrective action and bringing the community together to make a better society. This court room harbors that energy to the highest level.

Houses the Byron Police, Water Department, a Tag office on Tuesday and Thursday only, and the Municipal Court. Also the polls on election day.

Let me start off by saying I remain respectful when communicating with our law enforcement, court employees, judges, etc. and I appreciate that the Judge And Officer Ford treated me with respect. But everyone else I have communicated with at this court has been completely unprofessional and rude. For no reason. I can understand being defensive and stand-offish if rudely pushed By a customer, but when the people your are dealing with are remaining respectful there is no reason for the hostility. I was scolded/hung up on when I couldn’t understand what the receptionist was saying because of an echo through cell connection, when I stated this, I was yelled at, I then heard the phone slam, and the call went dead. I proceeded to call back, needing a number (That was nowhere to be found on their website) to pay a fine that Byron court wanted from me. The same receptionist proceeded to yell the number over the phone, hanging up on me again. I have never been so confused, upset and disrespected as I have here. Respectfully, I hope they take this review as a way of training employees to be a little more civil when working alongside the people in our community.
