Godai Sushi Bar & Japanese Restaurant

Goro is a master and he whipped up some amazing eats for us like he usually does! In my opinion this is the best sushi spot in SA! You get miso soup and salad with your meal and all the rolls, sushi, and dinner items are made fresh and take time so be aware that good food takes time! Start your meal off with some tempura!

What a cool spot, the atmosphere and vibes are great love the wood everywhere! The Gyoza was excellent 👌 some of the best I've had in San Antonio. Service was amazing, Krystal was incredibly knowledgeable and super friendly. Great experience 👍

I always get some sashimi. I recommend the unagi, amaebi, ikura, and tako.
The portions are good, and it's fresh. I also like the fried crab and miso soup.

And they have japanesse snacks and wine to go

Sushi here is impeccable. The service, excellent. Also the atmosphere was wonderful, they had a great playlist going! I got the ceviche roll and my step mom got the longhorn roll. The rolls came with a salad and miso soup. We also got gyoza and a seaweed salad, both delicious. Honestly you could randomly choose any roll on the menu and it would be fantastic.

The lunch specials make this one of my favorite restaurants in town. ~$10 gets you a nice small soup, small salad, and a good sized entree. Hard to beat that, especially when the food is quite good. The sushi here is also great, I personally like the tempura and veggie rolls.
The staff are also some of the nicest at any restaurant, very helpful and considerate.
I personally love the atmosphere, however I find many other people dislike the style of the building, ymmv.

As much as I want to gate keep this place, it deserves recognition. This is absolutely my favorite sushi place ever. Miso and salad come complementary, rolls are huge and fresh, and the service is amazing. Everything is priced right, too! My usuals are the bagel roll, unagi roll, and tuna hand roll. They also serve a load of other dishes here that can be paired with a huge variety of wine. The owner, Goro, and the sushi bar chef, Vivi, are also my favorite people ever. They are so kind and personable, and it just makes my day talking to them. The rest of the staff is amazing as well, and it’s comforting to walk in and see familiar faces. I also love the live music that the spot offers and the cozy, chill atmosphere. Definitely stop by!

Came here again after a great first experience a few weeks ago. This place has really good food, especially any of their sushi rolls.

Tom’s Special Roll 9/10 - Yellowfin Tuna wrapped over the roll with Avocado and thin sliced lemon. Very good flavor that I highly recommend.

Salmongonzia Roll 8/10 - very good roll that looked amazing as well.

Calamari 6/10 - heavy breaded, but the flavor was great.

Spring Crab Rolls 9/10 - these things are absolutely amazing! Never had rolls like this!

Atmosphere 7/10 - nothing fancy, just focus on the food.

Service 7/10 - service was great, just a little slow is all.

Overall 8/10 - definitely a must try for Japanese fare.

I have been going to Godai for almost 20 years. The owner is one of the kindest, hard working, caring people you will ever meet! The food has always been fresh and delicious! The staff are always friendly and happy to make suggestions. You can't find a better sushi restaurant. My wife is from Japan and she gave it her endorsement for a great meal as well! I really can't say enough about this restaurant. Highly recommend!

I can't say I was expecting much when I heard we were going to sushi in San Antonio. And the outside of the building didn't really instill any confidence. But boy was I wrong - reminder to self: don't judge a book by its cover.

The interior was no frills, yet charming. The food was delicious. And the service was amazing.

Would recommend and go back in a heart beat.

Their version of spicy edamame was FIRE. Definitely try them! We also tried their shishito peppers to start and they were uniquely sweet and savory.

This place is a hidden gem!! Very small but nice restaurant, clean restrooms and friendly staff. Huge menu with lots of choices and even a good alcohol selection as well.The food was absolutely amazing and delicious that my brothers and I can’t wait to go again. Only complaint from my brothers were about the waiting staff did take long at times but who cares when your stuffing your face with these amazing foods. I would recommend this place to anyone and have them recommend it to everyone! Sushi rolls can add up in price also.😎

This hidden gem is delicious, reasonable priced and fast with preparing meals. The staff and owner are very nice and environment is very low key and comfortable. Would recommend!

One more thing for those taking the time to read this… Sometimes they are short staffed & I have seen rude customers…trust me they do their absolute best to get everything going & serve you. Be kind! Be patient! Promise the food will be delicious !!

If you want to have authentic Japanese sushi, this is the place. Very fresh and good food for decent prices. Love it and definitely would come back.

Everything is delicious. I do love the fried soft shell crab. And the bento, OMG!

Update: I took two friends with me, one from Japan during WW2, and we ordered different dinners. They both said Godai is now their favorite restaurant and there was a lot of yum noises during our meal.

Most amazing sushi I have ever had! And the owner is a rockstar! It felt like he is a local celebrity and I can tell why! He was super friendly and made us some amazing rolls! I never liked raw fish before tonight…sake and friend Oreos were new to me as well and I was not disappointed! I will definitely be coming back here as often as I can!

It was our first time today at Godai. It was all around just amazing. Our waitress was the sweetest! The Food was outstanding! We definitely will be back!!!

Best sushi 🍣 in San Antonio hands down!!! We celebrated a friend’s birthday last night and everything was so fresh and tasty! I woke up wanting more after being stuffed last night! Can’t wait to go back! I just wish I took more pictures!

A staple of a great sushi restaurant in SA. The service and atmosphere is always welcoming. Almost like going somewhere in Hawaii lol. The sushi is always consistently fresh and tasty. The yokisoba dishes are so good too! Always happy to return to eat there whenever we get a chance.

Terrific food and wonderful service. The owner/chef Goro was really nice and welcoming. They also have cute merchandise. They have live music Saturday from 6-8pm.
