Breaking Grounds broke my taste buds… in a good way.

A few hours of sleep and the aftertaste of chili cheese dogs from Susie’s lingering in both Tim’s and I’s life, we needed something to wash them down and wake us up. Stop two on our trip was Breaking Grounds and, boy, what a stop it was.

Upon entering, we were greeted by a friendly barista who seemed genuinely interested in being there and talking with us. We chatted with him awhile also discussing the menu options. Being full from Susie’s, we weren’t upset at the lack of food options on the menu. This place is strictly coffee and coffee-related drinks.

I asked the barista what the Kona Mocha frappe was and he explained it as a chocolate and mocha blend. He asked what I was in the mood for and I said something hot and delicious. He recommended something and I agreed to it. I was so tired that I can’t even remember what I ordered, but it was tasty. I optioned for almond milk and that was a great choice. The drink was a little light on flavor but full on foam and hitting the spot.

Tim actually was interested in the Kona Mocha frappe and he ordered just that. While we were waiting for our drinks, I walked out to my car to grab our Magic decks. We were going to play a few games of Commander while enjoying our drinks and the gloomy weather. When I came back in, the barista presented me with a little espresso glass full of Kona Mocha and said it was on the house and that he wanted me to try it. After lapping up the whipped cream, I took a little sip. Then another and then another and then another… until it was all gone. Between each sip, I muttered ‘oh man’ each time and instantly had coffee envy of Tim’s drink. While my drink was good, the Kona Mocha was everything I loved in a drink.

As we played a few games of Commander and talked over our drinks, Tim admitted to really liking the Kona Mocha as well. He likes it so much that he ordered another one before we left. I was totally eyeing his drink the entire way home. Suffice to say, I will be going back real soon for my own Kona Mocha.

The interior of Breaking Grounds is a bit sparse. The walls lack decor and the place as a whole lacks a lot of the feel of a coffeehouse. But, that can also work to ones advantage as what they do have works. The walls were a nice dark blue that meshes well with the wood floors. There is ample seating inside for 15 people, roughly. The parking lot is shared with the other businesses in the building but foot traffic seemed to ensure that no one stayed too long and there was always an open spot or two for the businesses.

Breaking Grounds is a new coffeehouse in Morton and their menu indicates that more is to come. I am excited to see what 2020 brings to their shop.

Warm and cozy place to meet up with someone or get work done. It's a little small so probably not for big groups. The service is super friendly and the chai was delicious.

Really great coffee shop. Kyle was very knowledgeable and let me sample a few coffees to figure out which beans I would like. I tried the beans at home and they are excellent. The prices here are very good too. The atmosphere is very nice and everything is well done and modern. Highly recommend this coffee shop over Leaves and Beans.

A modest little coffee shop tucked inside of Morton. The service was fantastic, the barista was very sociable and lively and the coffee was great. I ordered the Kona Mocha Frappe and honestly it was one of, if not the best, coffee drinks I've ever had. Blows chains like Starbucks out of the water in comparison. Definitely give it a try if your find yourself in Morton!

Great place right off the bike trail. Really nice for all the bike riders around here. The staff is very friendly and seem very happy! I recommend having Kyle make you a cappuccino his way. They also has a great dark roast bean called "Black Velvet". I recommend trying them out.

Fantastic place for coffee, best by far that I've had. Would rather drive out of my way to get this than go to Starbucks. Relatively the same price as star bucks as well. Great customer service and very laid back atmosphere, good place to hangout and enjoy some coffee

Breaking Ground’s coffee deserves 10 stars, and their service deserves even higher. Every time I enter the building I am greeted by name by some of the friendliest people in the city of Morton, and when I leave the place I leave with a coffee that always exceeds expectations. Coffee met with good company is always enjoyed more, this place is on the rise!

Exceptional customer service! The barista played Christmas music for our 2 year old, and even gave him a little mug of milk, while we drank our coffee. The coffee was also really good. We will make sure to stop here again on our way through town.

It finally came time for my cross country trip from Kentucky to Utah. I just finished high-school and was moving to Utah to start a new chapter of my life in the finance field. As my papa, a coffee connoisseur, and I were approaching Peoria, my papa pathetically made an attempt to be hip by stating "we need some coffee up in here". Unimpressed but in agreement, it was my personal duty (as his driving assistant) to find the best coffee place around. In situations like these I turn to Google. Thankfully, Google maps had a "best coffee" tab displayed in the "explore nearby" section. This perfectly placed proposition by Google resulted in an impressive assortment of coffee shops nearby. Among the shops listed I saw something quite rare: a perfect 5 star rating. In disbelief, I rapidly clicked to check if the coffee shop had enough reviews to be considered a trusted 5 star spot. To my amazement, there were 87 reviews! Among those 87 reviews, there was only 1 non 5 star review: a 4 star review. Being only 10 minutes away, this was nothing short of a Christmas miracle in June. Enticed by the impressive reviews and short travel time, my papa and I quickly departed from the highway. As we pulled up to the simple, classic, small town coffee shop our excitement and anticipation was blatantly obvious. Once we finished gearing up to head into uncharted, potentially infected, territory we made our way from the car to the 5 star destination. Pleasantly greated by who seemed to be the owner, we glanced at the black board and ordered our coffee. After mentioning our trip and chatting with the batista, we amassed our much needed drinks, grabbed straws, and left. First sip and I was immediately overjoyed. Never before have I experienced such joy from just one sip. I immediately exclamed "this is delicious". At this point it was up to my papa, the coffee connoisseur, to make a statement. The tension rose as the fear of being wrong about how good the coffee was built. Watching my papa lift the straw to his mouth, take a sip from that classic green straw, and examine the taste of this new unfamiliar but familiar substance in his mouth, I could only wait in anticipation for what he had to say. He looked up from his coffee and said "that's a perfect latte". Sitting in our car, Impressed and overjoyed, we questioned whether we should go back and tell him how good it was. Instead of going back, I decided to write this. Without a doubt, Breaking Grounds Coffee Co. is a diamond in the rough.

Best coffee in the areas.
Love the cafe mocha because it isn't as sweet as other places. Hubby loves their hot chocolate.
The Miel coffee is delicious too.

This is a new place but the owner is very knowledgeable and creates a great product. The prices are fair and compettive. I was visiting in town and found this place by asking Siri to find me coffee houses near by. I am glad I chose this one. EXCELLENT COFFEE!
