Southdale YMCA

The Front Desk Staff at the YMCA here are amazing, kind and helpful. Many different questions are asked and they always try to help. I used to work there, I was the white woman Ms. Malam is referring to. I remember clearly the interaction because I spoke to her first and stated that there were no sales people here and it’s against policy to let non-members into the facility. I repeated it several times that I was sorry but there are no sales people here. Josh (well-respected, well-liked, long-term employee, helps everyone that he can) backed me as I was observing that she would not accept my answer. And he did. Calmly, informatively and clearly. Ms. Malam returned to express more displeasure especially at Josh. I said he was just informing you. And she again left. I’m sure it was frustrating to sign up then not get in (technology has its limitations) it was clear that was the expectation to use the facility (even if you don’t have a membership?) We did our best as everyone always does there. Some days you’re tired some days not. But the intention is always there to be of service.

Super nice people working (out) there! Liked the pool a lot. I agree that this facility is a little outdated but who cares. Works great for what I need from a gym:)

Absolutely love this Y! I've never been a YMCA member before, so I'm new to the whole organization. My husband and I joined because we needed a gym and the Lifetime down the street is on an 1000 person waitlist. What? To our surprise, we absolutely love the Y! It's busy but never overcrowded, the equipment is awesome, the staff are all lovely, there is natural light from huge windows everywhere. I'm obsessed with the fitness classes and their instructors (body pump and yoga flow are my usual). They have classes all day and you can just walk in anytime, no need to sign up. Diverse mix of people, ages, and fitness levels in every class, so I never feel out of place. The hot tub and steam are great (the steam is almost too hot, I can only stay in it for five minutes). The women in the daycare are super sweet and because it isn't overcrowded, our daughter (8 months old) gets one-on-one care! I'm a total super fan.

I take my client here to go swimming and he absolutely loves it, all the staff make him feel very welcomed! Especially the man at the front desk who always happily assists my client!

After reading reviews on google about this Y, I have been overwhelmingly impressed. The gym is clean, large, plenty of lockers. There are several stations with sanitizing wipes available and I have yet to we one empty. Given that the price is comparable to other gyms in Edina and actually cheaper if your insurance or employer gives a credit for going x times per month, it’s a great deal. I only utilize the cardio machines and weights, but if you are into other means of exercise such as classes, racquet (?sp) ball, swimming, etc. there is even more for you here. No too “bro-y” either, if that makes sense. All experience levels fit in here.

I haven't run into a single person who wasn't pleasant & welcoming. The shower facilities are just okay... they're clean and they allow me to get clean, but the stall showers are a tight squeeze (unless you're okay touching the walls and curtain). The rest of the locker room is bright, cheery, clean, and plenty big. Classes are great, equipment is awesome, and there are plenty of options for open gym & lap swim.

We love the Southdale Y! Their Kids Stuff staff is the best! They really care about our kids and plan fun activities. The warm water leisure pool with vortex and zero depth entry are great, too.

We love this place. My kids are preschool and elementary age. The childcare is great. They all love it. The classes I have been to are great and there is a wide variety of ages and ethnicities of members. It's great to see both toddlers and 80 year olds at the same place enjoying an active lifestyle. The only issue is parking ... if it's 10 am when a lot of the classes start, it's hard to find parking. Come earlier to find a space (usually in back).

Love the Southdale Y! Staff is helpful and has all the weights and equipment I need for my workouts. I have been going there about 4 days a week for about the last 5 years. The best feature is the steam sauna!

YMCA works with you. Example:

They let me pause my gym membership during covid and come back with no fee. I doubt you'd find a more chill gym. They even have a discount for people who can't afford the membership. Worth taking a look even if you think the fee is to high to pay each month.

Awesome YMCA location! I belonged here years ago for quite some time and switched to another gym for a while, and now I'm definitely back to stay! It's even better since the remodel and expansion and the staff is just as friendly as I remember. Highly recommended!

Nice work out place for our family. My wife and I had a peace of mind that my kids were taken care of while we work out. My kids have enjoyed the time they've spent in the kids area as well. Have not tried any of the classes yet but looking forward on attending one.

I have been a member of the YMCA for years. It is a wonderful club to belong to and really helps me to stay in shape. The staff are always knowledgeable and helpful. I appreciate their attitude of kindness and attention to safety, especially now in the times of COVID-19. Thank you to everyone who makes this possible!

A great place for Family fitness activities. They have many programs for kids and seniors and all ages in between. I'm in the Silver Sneakers program and it has helped me to get my old body in shape and lose weight. They have everything from personal trainers to summer camps. It's also the most welcoming club that I know of.

Currently, we are doing a five day free trial and everything feels safe. I really enjoy the spacious, clean setting. Feeling very positive about getting a membership and supporting the good mission of the YMCA (and losing this Covid pudge.)

Excellent child care, with long term staff who get to know the children. Updated cardio workout machines, many of them capable of entertaining you during your workout.
Plus all the other regular features of a full service workout center.

Lots of options for different ages and fitness levels. I take the "Forever Well" water exercise and Silver Sneakers Classic classes & they are terrific. I had been ill and needed to build up my strength and these classes are a fun way to do it.

Best place for working out and swimming ever.
Such great personnel, trainers.
The equipment is up-to-date and very nice.
Love the swimming pools especially the warm pool.
Only disadvantage is get into swim because of classes.
Highly recommend.
