The restaurant is small, so the dining experience feels exclusive and intimate. The service we had was warm and inviting. The server never made us feel rushed, while also checking in on us from time to time (I wish I remembered her name, but shoutout to her!). The food was coursed out by the server/kitchen and was perfect timing for everything (not that we were in a time constraint, it was just nice the pace they did). The food was DELICIOUS! Their beet salad is probably my favorite beet salad in Madison. I had the rabbit and my partner had the cod, which were both so flavorful.

WOW, simply amazing meal. Highly recommend to give yourself lots of time. It truly is a dining experience! Staff was very helpful, offering great suggestions.

Can't say anything about dessert...as we were stuffed from dinner.

You have to try one of the homemade pasta dishes!

Visited for our third time for Valentine's Day. As always, everything was exquisite.

The seafood appetizer was well-orchestrated. Definitely some of the better preparations of salmon pie, scallops, oysters, and shrimp cocktail we've ever had. We did feel it was a bit out of place, but we understand the idea behind it, as it was Valentine's Day, and seafood is an aphrodisiac. Found out in hindsight we could've gotten a charcuterie board instead, which I would opt for if you're not in the mood for seafood.

The pasta bolognese was perfectly executed. It honestly had no room for improvement. It was an Italy-level dish.

The last entrée was chicken galantine. This was absolutely delightful. It was very appealing-looking, which chicken galantine often isn't, lol. Once again, perfectly executed, and it was served with hot honey glazed carrots and brussels sprouts. The veggies were perfectly balanced, caramelized and crispy on the outside and soft but still with a bite on the inside. We would eat this every week if we could.

I can't recall the name of the dessert, but it was fabulous. It was basically an extremely fancy, chocolate-hazelnut-raspberry churro. It was beautiful, well balanced, and a great finish to Valentine's Day.

Overall, A Pig in a Fur Coat is easily one of the top fine dining establishments in Madison. A stellar date night or celebratory dinner for anyone.

Food and service here are both excellent! I honestly think "A Pig in a Fur Coat" is the best place in Madison that I've found thus far in terms of upscale food at a price that feels bang on. Service was also excellent in that we got great advice for recommendations on serving sizes and drink recommendations as well as our server checking in on us while we dined.

I was worried at first that the experience would be lacking in that the space is quite cozy, so I wasn't sure if it would be too close/loud for a date setting. However, my partner and I had a great time. All in all, I highly recommend and plan to return!

Ate at the bar. The food and cocktails were both phenomenal. The fall salad and the raviollo. They have an incredible amaro selection as well.

Lovely restaurant with small plate / American version of tapas theme. Great to go with several friends as it let’s you explore more variety across the menu. Everything was very tasty and liked by our group. Although the dessert offerings were limited they were delicious. Full drinks menu and for fans of sour ale the Flemish sour ale by Monk’s Cafe was delicious!
This is definitely worth returning to.
Warning - for those looking for French fries soaked in duck fries - it’s not in the menu at this time (Nov 22). I wish it was so many people raved about it.
Reservations are a good idea here.
Tip - Parking can be found around the corner more easily than on Williams street on a busy weekend night.
The jerked rabbit was quite tasty and unlike many other countries not often seen in a US menu. The beef tartare was amazing. The beets were very nicely done and very creative mixing a variety of flavors.
This restaurant is a feather in Madison’s cap!

I think this restaurant is great. The plating is awesome on some dishes, the price is affordable (excluding the pastas) and the flavor profiles were delicious. The best thing we had was definitely the lamb belly. My only complaint was that the pasta seemed a tad overpriced. My issue with stuffed pasta is you never really get more than 8 and if you're splitting, well that doesn't work well. Otherwise the service was great and I'd come back.

Wow. Wow. Wow. This was such an awesome experience. From the moment that Juan greeted up to the final plate coming out of the kitchen, everything was spot on. With an ever-changing menu, this small plates dining experience is new each time. Bring an adventurous pallette and be willing to step outside of your comfort zone to try new combinations you would never think of as your own. If you share, the portions will comfortably allow four people to try each dish. Like the portions, the space is on the smaller side so reservations are strongly recommended.

We decided to visit A Pig In A Fur Coat after first seeing it on Wisconsin Foodie and then noticing it was near our hotel on a recent trip to Madison. We made a 5:15 reservation on a Saturday night, which was a simple process online.

When we arrived we were quickly sat and our server Juan explained how the small plates menu works and kindly recommended dishes. We decided on the Salumi board, the beet salad, the trout salad (a new menu item), and the chittara.

My husband ordered the Pop Top beer which was excellent and complemented the salumi board! I’m only sad this brewery is out of CA and we can’t get this beer locally.

They did a fantastic job of timing courses so that each item arrived when we had finished the previous and had time to enjoy. This process was a well-oiled machine. We LOVED all of the dishes, but the beet salad was out of this world. I wanted to lick the plate. It had varying textures, tastes, and just elevated beets to the next level. It was one of the best things I’ve ever eaten.

Each dish was well-balanced, thoughtful, and tasty. We left full, happy, and still talking about each dish. This was a culinary experience we will not soon forget.

Had a wonderful visit here for dinner. This is a small plates restaurant where sharing is encouraged. The staff is awesome, very knowledgeable and friendly. They do an excellent job of walking you through the menu and giving recommendations. The menu changes seasonally and they try hard to utilize local and regional flavors/ingredients. The dishes are rich, flavorful and beautifully presented! We particularly enjoyed the fall harvest salad and the corzetti with escargot and goat cheese!

By far my favorite restaurant in Madison. Upscale but not pretentious. A fantastic staff. The chef always comes out and checks on you. I find it hard to resist ordering one of everything. Plus their wine selection 👌

A Pig In A Fur Coat went above and beyond my expectations. The food was incredible and interesting, I’ve never experienced dishes like it! I also love that they are all meant to be shareable plates. The service was exceptional. I don’t know how they anticipated our every need, want, and desire but they made it happen. The service alone made this experience stand out, it was that good! All in all, it’s such a cute place, on a cute street, with out-of-this-world food. Still thinking about the Jerk Rabbit!!

Good service, unique menu with assortment of flavors and foods. Wouldn’t put it in the top of foodie restaurants I have been, but preparations were all solid and would definitely come back! The foie gras mousse was delicious, the corzetti pasta was great, ribeye had great flavor, and the dark chocolate budino dessert was fantastic.

I decided to stop here last minute before a show and man am I glad I did. They were fully booked in the dining room but they offer the full menu at the bar. The bartenders were great to talk to and the drink menu was unique and delicious ( we tried most of their signature drinks). The food was perfect and I ended up ordering more plates besides my main dish after tasting the first one. I will definitely be returning next time I'm in Madison. Cheers!

Amazing dinner! They accommodated us at 4:30 without a reservation. The plates were rich in flavour and excellent in proportion. My party of four shared three mains and four appetizer-sized dishes, with no snack-sized. When one of my party didn't like the beverage he was served, a substitute was provided without issue. Great hospitality. Great atmosphere. Great food. I can't wait to return!

Wonderful, exciting, and interesting spot. It's not cheap, and the portions aren't big, but everything is delicious, and well thought out. Seasonal menu? How about a daily menu! Great taste, good drinks from the bar, and wonderful staff. The gnocchi was probably the best I've ever had!

We were so happy with the service, food, location, and portion size. All the boxes were ticked for a lovely experience. The staff went out of their way to make a lovely experience for my mothers birthday, and listened to the special requests I left when making a reservation. Our favorite dishes were the beet salad and olive mix. Delightful!

We normally try not to repeat restaurants but decided to come back to APIAFC! The service and food are amazing and without the pretentiousness of some of the comparable spots downtown. Love!

Pricey but worth it! This is a great spot for a delicious, special occasion meal. The plates are shareable, so it’s fun to come with a small group and try a little of everything. My favorite dish was the raviolo—sooo many flavors exploding in my mouth at the same time.
I also like that it’s not an overly fancy or stuffy place. Everyone is chill and friendly.

Comfy and delicious. Off the path menu for Wisconsin but flavorful and incorporated a ton of grassroots flavors from beets to celery. Not scared to to not have meat as a main dish this restaurant had unique cocktails and all around atmosphere that could keep you coming back. The flavor and preparation of each dish was meticulous and presentation was striking. Rabbit, octopus, all pastas, even the beets, cooked well and delicious. Recommend bringing a group as it's a pass the plate style but even a couple can order a few dishes and be wholly satisfied. I didn't have anything in wouldn't eat again and to me that's 5 stars.
