The Sand Dunes Motel

While we visited Kure Beach, we lodged at The Sand Dunes Motel. For us, this was the first time we ever stayed at a motel because motels are not usually kept like this motel. However, there was not anything that seemed to lack. Our room had a kitchenette complete with cooking supplies and other needs, as well as a full-size refrigerator that had two plastic ice trays from which guests could use ice. The room was clean and adequately furnished, & there were additional locks on the main door. The bathroom had updates to make it appear charming, the shower had adequate water pressure, and enough bath linens were provided. Four lounge chairs were outside with two facing the ocean and two facing the road. The outdoor pool was well kept and had lounge chairs, but pool towels were not provided. Parking was adequate and surrounded the property. Access to the beach was immediately on the back of the property. A staff member was always on site, & several eateries and shops were within walking distance of the motel. We thought our stay at The Sand Dunes Motel was perfectly delightful!

Relaxed area, not too touristy or rowdy like other beaches we've stayed at. This is an older place but it's well kept. Staff are very friendly. Parking can be a bit challenging for a full sized vehicle but it worked out okay for us. The only real drawback is the suites are on the second and third floors, and there's no elevator.

Awesome little motel on Kure Beach with amazing service. We checked in for a weekend stay (Cape Fear Discs disc golf tournament at Joe Eakes Park) and have had an awesome stay thus far. David at the front desk deserves 5 stars as well. First class, friendly service and I noticed that he has treated all the guests here like family. Kudos on the service. The room is perfect for the weekend. Think studio apartment (without full kitchenette). Having said that, there is a microwave, an actual coffee pot (no k-cup here thank goodness), and a small fridge with freezer (perfect for that pint of ice cream after a long day). We are in a town view/second floor room and have no complaints. This is a sister property for the Admirals Quarters. I would recommend either for a great stay at Kure Beach. The Sand Dunes Motel has touchpad door locks (which is great), our parking pass was filled out and on the dresser when we arrived and the air was on when we walked in. The Sand Dunes was a lot of fun! Great location, great pool, nice staff! Dave (Maintenance) was hard working but made time to ensure guests were comfortable, what a great guy! Thanks for making our stay awesome!!!

It was a great and fun experience! My friends and I enjoyed the beachside. Absolutely loved the extra towels we had as well! Highly recommend.

We stayed in an oceanfront standard room at The Sand Dunes, and had a wonderful stay! Our room was very clean and nicely updated. The beds were comfortable, and the kitchenette had everything we needed to prepare meals in our room. We absolutely loved the balcony and view of the ocean! The property itself is clean, quiet, and well maintained. Pool is great, with lounge chairs and patio tables to use. Staff is friendly and attentive, and loved the easy check in process. Great location. This was an excellent place for the kids! We will definitely book a stay here again. Highly recommend!

My husband and I stayed here for a long weekend and we will definitely be booking with them again. I love the self check in and out. Love having a key pad instead of having to keep up with a room key. The room and the grounds were very clean and the view from our room was awesome. We were able to walk everywhere we wanted to go. The House keeping crew were really nice. We asked for an item that we needed and it was here within 3-5 mins. Great little get away.

Husband surprised me with an anniversary getaway. Great room, ocean view, great beach, close to amazing restaurants, really clean (which is super really!!) a 10/10! I found nothing to complain about !! Yay team.

Sand dunes is the only place we stay when we come to Kure beach. I’ve been coming with my family for 15+ plus years now. They truly care about their customers and have a swift response with any concern/issue. Also perfect location to walk to the pier and restaurants. Rooms are always clean. We were even able to check in 3 hours earlier which was wonderful. I love how they are running it now with not having to check in at a front desk and it is virtually sent!

Stayed here for 5 days and it was the best experience. The room was clean, everything was provided as said online and even more! They sent frequent texts to make sure everything was going well and staff was very friendly. The location was beautiful as you could look out at the ocean and even sit out on the balcony!! Definitely recommend this motel to anyone who is in the area!!

Checked in 2/25/23 for one night. Stayed in room 316. Room was very clean and the beds were quite comfortable. That night we walked on the pier and spent serval hours on the deck just listening to the waves. Very quiet room with a beautiful view. We will definitely book again when we go back to the Wilmington area.

It was another wonderful stay. Location is great with easy access to the beach an to see the beautiful sunrise! If we needed anything it was there in less then 10 min. I would recommend this motel to anyone. Thank you!

Went to the Sand Dunes for our anniversary and it was fantastic. The room was clean, beds were comfortable and the Oceanview was breathtaking. All the staff we met were friendly...the property is walking distance to the restaurants and Pier. We look forward to returning again soon!

Great price. Super clean room. Such a great hotel with views of the sunrise and sunset from our room. Nice little kitchen and large refrigerator. The lock was easy to operate and no key to keep track of. We walked in and the temperature was just right and music was playing. We felt at home and will definitely visit at the Sand Dunes again. Thank you for such a lovely stay.

Our first time here so didn't know what to expect. Check in was easy. They send you a text message. Room is nice and clean. Open floorplan , so roomy, like a little cottage.
Great location. We walked less than a block for dinner.

Going into our room, we were surprised with a full kitchen AND a nice snack basket. Room was nice and clean. Staff was friendly. Hurricane Ian hit the Friday we were there. We felt safe and thats when the kitchen came in handy. This is now our annual mother/daughter place to stay. Thank you all for making our vacation a good one. Except for that annoying Ian 😁😊

I will say 5 stars. I arrived there Friday afternoon after trying to find other places to stay. Not going into every little detail but almost everywhere were doing some kinda renovation. That's a better time than doing it in the summer. Sand Dunes were also doing some renovation on a room while I was there. That was totally cool. I got there and was met by Vicki. She was cool, she helped me get in touch with the owner/manager to get booked. She was cool too. I did all the booking over the phone. Once I was reserved, Vicki and the lady that was with her told me how to correctly unlock the contactless key lock after receiving the code through my booking. I unexpectedly spontaneously went to the beach and I was able to find somewhere and this is where I found a place to stay the weekend. Some time alone at the beach to lay my head. More than likely, I will stay here again. Thank you for allowing me to stay. Happy New Year!

Enjoyed our stay and will be staying here again. Clean rooms and nice view of the ocean and pier. I really liked not having to check in or keep up with a room key. Instead a code was provided by email that was used to access the room.
We usually stay at another hotel in the area on our trips down but will definitely be staying here instead.

Was easy to call to make reservations... Very pleasant and relaxing. Room was very clean and kitchen with everything you needed to cook a meal instead of going out to eat. No key to keep up with was a plus. Price was good for ocean front.Looking forward to staying again.

We have been staying here for 20 years. This year was really different but we expect different these days. We were notified of the contactless check in and room services. We were a little concerned about how this would go for us based on past visits. We were greeted by Christina, the head housekeeper. She became our “cruise director” for the week! She was always available to answer questions, bring us fresh linen and took interest in all of our questions or concerns. The new owners are making great changes and Christina is making sure the facility is clean and welcoming. Thank you for a great vacation! See you next year!
