Durango Off Leash Dog Park

If my dogs had thumbs they would both give this place two thumbs up! They ran around by the river like it was the happiest day of their lives. Very clean, amazing views, and was a lot of fun to explore with the dogs off leash.

PSA - DON'T GIVE OTHER DOGS TREATS WITHOUT PERMISSION.
This is my dog's favorite place! He thinks it's the best dog park in the world, and while he hasn't traveled that extensively, I agree with him. We've never seen a rattlesnake here (despite the scuttlebutt), but always find friendly dogs to play with, sticks to fetch, and water to drink and swim in. The city provides bags and a trash can so you can clean up after your dog... People are generally pretty good about picking up after their dogs - please help keep that trend going. If you're a visitor to Durango, and you don't clean up after your dog (or if you're a bad driver, poor tipper, or rude), you will have bad luck for at least 7 years and probably get radiation poisoning from the Smelter tailings that occupied the land on which the dog park sits for so long. Seriously, read the history of Smelter Mountain and Durango before you plan to visit; Radioactivity takes a loooong time to decay, and Smelter was "cleaned up" by 1980's EPA... What's YOUR level of trust in a 1980's underfunded agency?

I give it 5 because it's humans caring about more than themselves. No Judge, but IMO, we are put here to care for here. Hence the cognizant thoughts... Some more unnecessary than orders. I found peace here, Scoots found peace here. I was also able to get my van started thanks to Duurangians(not sure the title, nor really care about tittles). Anywho great place, despite being close to a busy street. If you keep them leashed till across the river, more comfort. Now as for Scooter:s opinion.
He Loves the river, dogs, Humans, toys... Etc, he Loves Life.

Really nice park, every single owner was very kind and polite, respectful. Loved I could let my dog lose and let him enjoy the park. River is beautiful and the paths are clean and very easy to do. Take your baggy to clean after your dog.

Great place to bring your dog to get some exercise.

Sooooo many happy happy dogs enjoying running around, and being alive!!! River accessible, trail loop, lots of open space. Carry poop bags ( supplied at entrance ). Keep your dog controlled when necessary. Enjoy!!!!

I love coming to this dog park! It’s got both hiking trails and water for the pups to play in. Not completely fenced in my my husky did just fine. Many nice locals as I was just here for vacation. Will be coming back when visiting the area again.

I’m used to dog parks with fences so this was an incredible treat for us and the dog. A lovely stroll along a river where they can be off leash and play with others.

Excellent off leash park. Drove with our dogs back/forth across country and stopped at a dozen dog parks- this one was the very best.

Great off leash area bounded by a mountain on one side and the Animas River on the other. Plenty of room to spread out and walk or run.

Really awkward encounter at the park. Brought my purebred Geiger and to no surprise it got excited. People kept telling me that their dogs were alphas and that I should neutron my Geiger, but they didn't get it. Bunch of betas. Still a Rad. park.

Also, a great place for a very long and aggressive seal launch into the whitewater park.

MASSIVE SPACE! excellent place for your dog to run. Trails, the creek, the mountains...so many areas for your dog to explore

Probably the most picturesque off-leash dog park I have ever been to. Can only park on the left as you pull in to lot. Private residence on the right side.

Love this place. Well-kept with access to the river.

Our dog was in heaven, running free. Bags for poop were readily available.

Difficult to find the parking area. Definitely worth the trouble. It is on 160 just across from the Double Tree Hotel. Parking is on left next to blue house trailer. Access to river for dogs to swim.

This is the BEST off-leash dog park we have EVER been to! I can’t even say enough good things about it. It is bordered on one side by a beautiful river and gorgeous mountains on the other. So much space to run around and play in absolutely gorgeous scenery! I am thankful for cities like this, that provide such an excellent place for the community.

Good amount of open space for your pooch to run around in. Also love that its close by the river. Lots of separate trails to go on. We enjoyed it with our dogs.

Unlike any other dog park I've ever visited! ACRES of wonderfulness including happy "dog-swimmable" areas of the Animas River! Nice people...great dogs...good times!
