We stayed two nights in Pittsburgh with our two kids and had a great time staying at Traveler's Rest. The hotel is unique, charming, and provides an authentic Pittsburgh experience.

The owners are welcoming and lovely to chat with. Having bike storage was a great amenity and allowed us to explore the nearby trails. Parking nearby was easy, and we had no trouble leaving our bike rack and car-topper overnight.

The room with bunk beds was perfect for us. It can be a little loud in the mornings with nearby industry, but it's a small price to pay to be located near restaurants, the inclines, transit, trails, the river, and a great view of the skyline.

Would highly recommend staying here to anyone!!

We only spent one night here, on a trip to the Wheel Mill, and it was a very nice place to stay. The room was very clean as well as the bathrooms. The great room is very impressive and the owners are extremely polite and accommodating. Didn't use the bicycle garage because the neighborhood seemed safe enough to leave the bikes in the truck, but that was definitely a deciding factor when we were choosing a place. The bathrooms are across the hall from the room, but the place is quiet and comfortable enough that it wasn't an issue. Will definitely return if the Wheel Mill ends up staying open.

A totally unique experience unlike any other major hotel chain. A spectacular building with rich history, beautiful craftsmanship, and cleanliness that is above and beyond. I find it hard to write this review because I want to keep it all to myself. What a hidden gem, and just minutes away from downtown. Despite being minutes away from major tourist attractions, I'm throughly enjoying just sitting here in the lobby (living room, meeting space.) This building is to be respected and taken care of. The owners have been nothing but kind. They are responsive to any requests and maintain a beautiful old building. I travel often and this will be from now on the only place I book in Pittsburgh. Long live Traveler’s Rest. South side rocks! Thank you (owners) for this wonderful service.

We loved our time at Traveller's Rest! Paul and Mary Beth were lovely hosts. Exceedingly welcoming and gave fantastic recommendations for things to do in Pittsburgh. The building was beautiful, beds comfortable, and morning coffee delicious! Our favorite part was borrowing bikes and cycling around Pittsburgh. Can't wait to come back and try the GAP trail!

This small hotel was a great alternative to the corporate hotel options downtown. I shared breakfast with fellow travelers each day and met some amazing people on their own adventures. The historic building was a delight, so much attention to detail! I was grateful for the contact-less check-in, the private bathroom, and the ear plugs offered. Safe neighborhood, clean room, lovely communal great room, and super nice hosts. I'd definitely stay here again!

Before we started the GAP Trail on Pittsburgh’s South Side we spent the night at Traveler’s Rest. Lovely stay! Our hosts were so welcoming and very attuned to the needs of cyclists. The atmosphere is really charming and the experience is one of a very comfortable and cozy hostel. It was easy to secure our bikes overnight, and there were lots of choices for a tasty, light breakfast before we hit the trail. We would definitely stay again!

What an amazing property. Our group recently stayed here to explore the GAP trail and the city of Pittsburgh. We topped off the visit by attending a Steelers game. The accommodations were amazing. The building is loaded with charm. The bed was incredibly comfortable. The south side location made it very easy to access the many things that we wanted to do in our short amount of available time. Paul, Mary Beth and Levi went above and beyond to make our stay so enjoyable . Highly recommend!

A fantastic little tucked-away hotel just outside of Pittsburgh! Perfect for quick 1 or 2 night stays! The building is an amazingly well maintained historical place, it's not terribly difficult to bike, drive, or even walk into the city itself, and the area is incredibly safe! Not to mention it's not expensive at all by any means!

The owners are wonderful to talk to, and the bike garage is a great plus if you're like me and don't want to deal with packing up a bike for transit just to go back to the room.

All in all, I'll gladly come back and bring my friends along :)

We thoroughly enjoyed our two-night stay at Traveler's Rest Hotel. It is a truly unique and welcoming hotel with easy parking, intriguing historical decor coupled with contemporary artwork, comfortable beds, and access to some fine recommended restaurants close by. Mary Beth and Paul make their guests feel so much at home and were very helpful answering all our questions about the area. Truth to tell, staying at Traveler's Rest felt much like we were visiting friends. We much enjoyed our coffee, granola and conversations with them and other guests in the mornings. We will certainly stay there again when we return to Pittsburgh.

Nice spot if you're cycling through, to, from or around Pittsburgh. Rooms are set up a bit differently from most hotels, with private bathrooms across or down the hall. For cyclists, they have a bike wash station, work stand, tools, and secure storage for your bike. Rooms are quiet, and I slept very well. Neighborhood is quite walkable and there were good options for meals nearby.

Paul was extremely helpful, and even made a quick early-morning visit to rectify a coffee issue. Next time I'm in Pittsburgh, I'll definitely stay here!

Stayed here with friends for a Monday night Steeler's game. Place was awesome. Large size rooms and very comfy beds. The common area is great for drinking coffee in the morning and chatting with other guests. The location cant be beat. Walking distance to many places to get food and drink. A quick uber ride to and from the stadium. It is also near the Great Allegheny Passage bike trail which is a perfect place to stay for your first night if you're riding out of Pittsburgh. The owner Paul is a cool cat too. Looking forward to returning!

Traveler's Rest is a beautiful boutique hotel with a lot of character. I drove from Toronto to Pittsburgh with my husband and good friend to see a comedy show at Bottlerocket Social Club. Contactless check-in/check-out was a breeze. The complimentary breakfasts were delicious (we had Bruegger's bagels with bacon/scallion cream cheese and honey/sriracha cream cheese, and a variety of chobani yogurts with amazing granola).

There's a train close by, but it literally passes through Pittsburgh's downtown, so I imagine that affects many places. Ear plugs are readily available to help with the noise. Despite that, Traveler's Rest was clean and comfortable. The vibe is really chill and welcoming.

Thank you for accommodating our stay!

We stayed here before kicking off our ride on the Gap Trail which very close by. This is the PERFECT place for cyclers to lay your head. It has everything a cycler would need for a long trip. Secure bike storage with freely available tools for adjustments.

The décor is super interesting and the accommodations very comfortable. Mary Beth and Paul were amazing hosts. They thought of everything you need to make our stay enjoyable. Can't wait to go back.

Five of us finished the C&O/Gap trail in Pittsburgh and Traveler's Rest was the perfect end to our adventure. The rooms and showers were nice, and the big common room on the first floor was an awesome area to hang out. They provide a kitchen with breakfast staples, and one of us made everyone pancakes.

There's a cool Brewery two blocks away, and also plenty of restaurants also a few blocks away. It seems to be an up and coming neighborhood with lots of new investment. We ate at the Venezuelan place and it was excellent.

The owners Paul and Mary Beth are super friendly and communication was easy. We saw both of them during our short stay.

Traveler's Rest was fantastic. Easy to get in and out of with your bicycle. Beautiful room I stayed in and lounge. I loved the chill and welcome vibe of those staying there and how helpful the owners, Mary Beth & Paul were. They gave suggestions for a local bike shop, when I needed to purchase something & looked up the hours, as well as shared about the local Arts Fest & looked up the schedule. I had a nice two nights rest and was grateful that in a hilly city, I got to stay in a flat area too, off the GAP and many other trails!

What a great experience starting my GAP bike trip at the Traveler's Rest Hotel. Paul and MB are the best hosts and the whole place has such great energy. Plus it's an easy 10 minute ride to the Amtrak station if you are coming by train...hopefully with your bike in tow.

Thank you Paul and MB for creating Traveler's Rest. I know I'll be back on my next trip to Pittsburgh.

Marybeth and Paul were very nice. I was welcomed and showed my room. I was in on an overnight work trip. I did not take advantage of all of the amenities or hang out space, so can not comment personally, but it looked like a nice space with nice people if you have time to hang out.
I was happy to have a different type of place to stay over a regular big chain hotel. Quiet and nice experience, I think there was only one other person there the night I was in. I suspect you would hear people in the hallway, but they have quiet hours and I perceived respectful people that would look to stay here.
The detached bathroom was different, but not issue...only worry I had was I would forget my room key, but I didn't!
If you are looking to try a unique, personal, and clean hotel, run by a nice couple in Pittsburgh, this place fits the bill!

My husband and I stayed here for our first anniversary and had the best experience! The Byers suite was super unique and spacious and we brought our bikes to explore the city so the secure bike storage in the garage was perfect. We loved the location with an amazing coffee shop and brewery in the highline just a two min walk away and downtown/the stadiums easily accessible by bike or Uber. We would recommend this hotel to anyone.

Beautifully restored 2 story brick building in Pittsburgh's South Side Flats neighborhood. Great for solo travelers and families, with tasty coffee in the morning. Extremely clean bathrooms and bedroom. A couple Helpful gents who let me store my bags during the day and check-in early.

Auspicious Experience for a Real Connection - Even as a Marriott Platinum for Life Member

This was one of the most lovely experiences staying at a "hotel" I can recall.
I would say that is saying something as I'm a Marriott for Life Platinum Member and travelled almost 100% of the time for 10 years as a Consultant prior to the COVID-19 Pandemic.
Paul and Mary Beth along with their family and staff make you feel like you joined their amazing family for the time in which you stay.
The Guests who are attracted to this sweet spot in Pittsburgh are typically cyclists who are doing a bike trip of some sort, either around Pittsburgh or to and from Pittsburgh. These are not just ordinary Guests, they are interesting, educated, talented, well travelled, curious, and adventurous!
As a result, the times I spent in the beautiful "Main Living Room" which is just outside the door of the Byers Suite where we stayed on the first floor, were simply lovely. Guests shared stories, adventures, plans for their bike trips, experiences, current event discussions, and even played music (there's a guitar in the closet should you be inclined to tune it up).
There's a bike repair area in the hotel where those biking can secure their bikes and gear as well as accomplish repairs as necessary.
We didn't find the washer and dryer until a few days into our stay, yet it was a welcome treat, free with goods to wash your clothes and certainly a necessity for those biking!
My husband and I backpacked Europe for 3 months in 1986, yes the year of the Chernobyl nuclear accident, and got married in Kathmandu, Nepal and travelled through India for our "honeymoon adventure"! For those of you who recall the books "Off the Beaten Path" - that is how I'd describe the Traveler's Rest Hotel.
it's important to manage expectations as it's not a Marriott and you need to know that going in... yet the experience is worth any of the "comforts" you may give up, in my humble opinion (IMHO)!
What a treat and rich compliment to an incredible visit with my Parents, who in their 80's came to Pittsburgh from Idaho for a convention. We were all delighted with our stay.
I can't wait to return!
Reliably and Respectfully,
