Let me just say 5 things about this place . Outside look so small and lot of park space. Once I enter the door . It was like wow so cute and cleaned 😍 place . Like so super Clean. The own 🙏 welcome us in and he was super nice . Telling us about this restaurant . It was super beautiful pic with many pictures of cooking and old pictures . Which was interesting. The waits was so nice and they also make sure that we are doing good while waiting for the food. And we order shrimp biryan and shrimp korma . Here are some pictures of the place and the food. I was here on visit and thought of trying this Indian restaurant and I was so surprised by their food . I will be back soon.

Food was great, everyone was very friendly. We got the Korma Chicken, Makhani Lamb, and Chicken Biryani, everything was great. Good spice level, good heat level. The naan was soft, warm and flavorful. Will definitely be back.

Super sweet people work here. The food was so flavorful. The chicken kebab was super juicy, and their mango lassi was the thickest and creamiest I’ve found in Pittsburgh

Feb 2024

Came with some friends who do not like spicy food, so we asked for the mild level. The food was delivered mild, but it was still very flavorful and our friends were very appreciative and enjoyed it.

==================

Came for a second visit, and while it was not quite as successful as our first, it was still very good. Probably due to our selection of dishes. Also, perhaps, maybe someone else was cooking the night we stopped in? We noticed a much milder spice level even though we asked for everything to be medium?

Nonetheless, all of my comments from below still stand. See new pictures for the new dishes that we tried on this visit.

==================

My friends and I really enjoy the flavors of Indian cooking. As also know that there is a wide variety and regional differences on that sub-continent and it is not that easy to find those differences in most Indian restaurants in the United States, or in Pittsburgh. Kabab and Curry has the tagline of offering Indian / Pakistani tastes and also lists Punjabi style dishes on their menu so we decided we would give them a try … we are sure glad we did!

To do a fair comparison, we ordered some dishes that are standard fare in any Indian restaurant but also asked the hostess what she would recommend as representing the most authentic tastes of the Punjab region that they cook in their restaurant. We were asked what spice level we preferred? We asked for Medium which was just right for us, as it was spicier than most places – on a par with a 6 or 7 at most Thai places. We ended up with the following:

The traditional appetizer of Samosas was done a bit differently here. Normally it is served with mashed potatoes and peas. Here we got more cubed potatoes. It was tasty and clearly the dough was folded in the kitchen before being fried. It was served with Tamarind Chutney and the flavor was a bit different – maybe a bit more acerbic than most Samosas we’ve had before. Not bad, just a bit different.

For the different appetizer we tried the Aloo Tikki Chaat. This was chunks of Potato that normally come as fried fritters, but here they were crumbled up and mixed in with a yogurt and tamarind sauce. This led it slight creamy and sour notes. Two of us liked this treatment. The others did not.

For the traditional main dish, we tried the Chicken Makhani or Butter Chicken. This was done well and we all like it. It was definitely spicier than the norm and the flavor profile was different than the norm as well. None of us could tell exactly what was different, and we all liked what they did, but there was just something different in their combination of spices. The other traditional dish we tried was the Aloo Sabzi Masala. This one featured corn in it. That was a surprise as none of us had ever seen corn in Indian cooking before. Again, very tasty, and again, somewhat different in the flavor profile.

The Punjabi dish we tried was called Chicken Haleem which was a soupy stew with shredded chicken in it. This was probably our least favorite dish even though it was still good. It just did not stand up to the flavors of everything else that we had on our table.

Of course, no Indian meal is complete without some bread and we tried the Garlic Naan and Gobi Paratha. Both were good, but nothing unique to say about either.

Service was great. Both the hostess and the woman who brought the food from the kitchen area were very accommodation and made sure we lacked for nothing. They answered our questions and curiosity with a smile. For all that food, including tip, we ended up spending less that $35 per person and had leftovers to boot!

A FOODIE’S FIND OF A SURPRISINGLY DELIGHTFUL NORTH INDIAN (subcontinent) CUISINE. 😎😎😎. The cooking here has the imprint of the Punjab Region of the Indian Subcontinent.

BUT unlike most of self-labeled Indian/Pakistani eateries in Pittsburgh (and America really) where the food is almost always salty, overuse of coconut milk, untempered use of chilies and very greasy, FOOD HERE IS ABSOLUTELY FRAGRANT, SAVORY AND SO WELL BALANCED 🤩🤩🤩.

There’s that fragrance from the mix of spices one comes to expect from Indian cooking, BUT DOES NOT turn pungent after a few minutes or that sticks on clothes after the meal👏👏👏.

Our Tandoori Luncheon is fantastic👌👌👌👌The meats (chicken and beef) are juicy and tender, with real touches of charring from a tandoor. Not a hint of grease….Clearly NOT the griddle/pan fried stuff that some other eateries do.

The jasmine rice is surprisingly vibrant and savory👍👍👍. And the Naan is oven fresh and crispy without the greasy taste or feel.

The highlight I thought is the Bhindi Aachumri🤩🤩🤩. It’s the best Indian Okra dish I’ve had in all my travels. … It’s not the usual Masala, but almost a simple sauté but with delicate spices and a hint of mango…WOW.

The restaurant itself has lovely ambience. Simple decor, brightly lit dining room. Very clean floor 👏👏👏.

Service is outstanding!!!

I’m from Atlanta, where there is a lot of Indian and Pakistani food to choose from. Kabab and Curry is one of my favorites, and definitely the best I’ve had in Pittsburgh. The service and food is always excellent. I also appreciate the to go containers being more “green” cardboard/foil instead of styrofoam. This place is a gem.

We greatly enjoyed our time at Kabab & Curry. I brought my parents who have never tried Indian food but wanted to experience it. Our server, Sai, was attentive and polite.

We started with the flavorful Samosa Chaat. For dinner, we ordered Mango Lassi, Ginger Beer, Chicken and Gosht Korma, Chicken and Paneer Tikka Masala, Chicken Kofta, Chicken Karahi, and Tandoori Roti. Everything was delicious and pleasantly spiced. I didn't think our meals were too spicy (ordered medium), but my parents (ordered mild) thought the food was a little "hot." They both agreed, however, that they weren't used to Indian food, loved the flavors, and probably would grow to love the heat. Although this was their first time eating Punjabi food, my parents are looking forward to returning to try more! That speaks volumes.

For dessert, the Gulub Jaman and Kheer are sweet treats that help cleanse and cool the palate. The Gulub Jaman was served warm, which I enjoyed.

Thank you, Sai, for a wonderful dining experience! We will be back.

We love the food and the friendly staff here! Even at the market, you are always made to feel appreciated from the moment you walk in. I heard the menu is even expanding more soon, so we cannot wait to try all the new items as well. You get large portions of delicious food- we love the classics (butter chicken, paneer, masala), and you don’t have to wait in a line for twenty minutes to pick up your order like other places nearby. 10/10 recommend these friends in the neighborhood! Thank you for being here.

Everything you’ve read is true. Some of the best Indian food I’ve had in Pittsburgh. Garlic Naan with cheese should be a crime. Tikka Masala on point. Ending with the Masala Chai tea was clutch. Can’t wait to try more 🩵

Very Good food and friendly waitress. We tried it and everything was very good. Prices were good, it would be nice if they had a sampler type dish for the inexperienced. Lots of folks were eating here that appeared to have ethnic backgrounds from the regions the food represents. I always hope to find folks that know what the food should taste like to know if its authentic and good. I would recommend eating here.

Very clean restaurant, very friendly service. Love the heat and the lamb was very tender. The chicken was also cooked very well. The Makhani lamb and chicken Biryani. Naan was soft and warm could be a little more buttery and garlic it was still a very good naan! complemented the food very well and stood up to the thickness of the curry.
