My kids and I went to Dr Labate for several years. We loved her and thought she was wonderful, always had perfect check-ups and a great experience. Ignorance is bliss!

Unfortunately, once she retired and I took them to a pediatric dentist I learned both of my children had many cavities. My son (age 9) needed a baby root canal, and my poor daughter (age 7) needed 3 separate sessions for all of her work. Their dental work totaled over $2000! As a family on a single income that was difficult to stomach. I actually took them to another pediatric dentist thinking this one was just ripping me off, but nope- there were the cavities on x-ray for me to see and the second dr had the same recommendations.

I also had a cavity, which I HAD POINTED OUT to Dr Labate and was told by her that it was merely a stain. I had been so trusting in Dr Labate, that I was unbelieving of my new dentist when he told me it was a cavity- but X-rays showed me that one as well. He also correctly identified that I grind my teeth- not a big problem when caught early, but would have created irreparable damage later on. He was surprised no one had informed me of this prior and has helped me to stop.

It was never suggested to use fluoride, rather I was told it’s not necessary. It was never suggested to get x-rays. These were both very expensive and stressful mistakes on my part. We have a healthy diet, do not drink sugary drinks, and visit the dentist every 6 months. Under the guidance of a quality dentist, we should never need all of this expensive dental work.

Thankfully I found a wonderful pediatric dentist who somehow managed to make all the cavity-filling a tolerable experience for my kids and has us now brushing with fluoride and getting regular digital x-rays. I am thankful to have found a quality dentist for myself as well. I am very sorry we ever trusted our teeth to Dr Labate. While she is a nice person, I found her to be an irresponsible dentist.
