River: A Waterfront Restaurant and Bar

When you drive by, you wouldn’t expect a restaurant to be in this building as it appears to be offices. When you walk, you go straight to the back of the building where the view of the river really puts you in a completely different space! You feel like you’ve just arrived in a staycation destination. The river is so calming and peaceful to sit near. They have lovely heaters which keep it very warm out there in the cooler months.

The food.
Their calamari was very tasty, crispy with fried peppers and marina sauce just excellent!
The Caesar salad had these amazing parmasean crisps on top.
I absolutely loved the Asiago salmon with pesto risotto, it was so fresh and flavorful and the pesto gave it a bright medley of flavors.
The sirloin was perfectly prepared and seasoned excellently, the mashed potatoes on the side were very creamy!

There was also a chicken Parmesan with their homemade pasta, great flavor on this dish.

For dessert we had their grapefruit cheesecake made n house, the strawberry coulis on top was really tasty with the creamy texture of the cheesecake.

Don’t sleep on this spot! Really beautiful place to celebrate a special occasion or just feel like you’ve gone out of town for the evening,

This was my second time visiting. The first time I went in October and this time I went in December. It was beautifully decorated in Polar Express theme. The meals and drinks were delicious, well seasoned and perfectly portioned. I recommend the calamari, the roasted chicken, veggie medley, and the garlic mashed potatoes. The eggnog crème bile was good too. My chocolate martini was creamy liqueur goodness. The manager, hosts, and waiters were all so pleasant.

Wanted to have dinner by the water. Did a Google search and found this restaurant in my backyard. When you first get there, it looks like you're in the wrong place because it's in the back of an office building. There is plenty of parking and the entrance to the building in nice.

There is a bar and 3 outside levels of dining area overlooking the river. There is ground, second and top level where you enter from. They also have inside dining as well as. The atmosphere was very nice and as it was getting dark, we noticed that the light shining on the tree was changing colors.

The waitstaff by the name of Sam was very knowledgeable and helpful in helping us making our decisions on what to drink and eat. We both ordered the same thing but different sauces and were both satisfied with our order. The atmosphere was very nice as well. When we left, we took a walk on the ground level and it was nice. It's about a 5 minute drive on and off I-91. Overall great experience and will most likely good back.

I recently had the pleasure of attending an annual luncheon with a group of over 50 women at River, and despite the pouring rain that threatened to dampen our spirits, our experience was nothing short of magnificent.

Upon arrival, we had expected to enjoy the breathtaking view of the beautiful Connecticut River from the tent, but Mother Nature had other plans. The rain was relentless, and by noon, we had already accumulated two inches with no signs of it letting up. Nevertheless, the staff at River promptly relocated us inside, ensuring our comfort and satisfaction throughout the event.

What truly sets River apart, however, is its commitment to offering a memorable dining experience regardless of the weather. The establishment boasts a deck with heaters, a charming patio, and a spacious tented area, all of which still provided us with the opportunity to enjoy the picturesque river view. Even on a rainy day, the atmosphere remained warm and inviting.

When it came time for lunch, we were delighted by the culinary offerings. The meal began with fresh salads and delectable bread, setting a high standard for what was to follow. The chicken and salmon dishes were nothing short of outstanding, perfectly cooked and bursting with flavor. The only minor disappointment was the vegetarian option, which consisted of minimal vegetables and an abundance of pasta or gnocchi. While it wasn't what we expected, it certainly didn't overshadow the overall excellence of our dining experience.

The service at River was exemplary throughout the luncheon. The staff members were attentive, friendly, and accommodating, ensuring that our large group felt well taken care of. Their professionalism and dedication to our satisfaction added to the overall enjoyment of our day.

In conclusion, our annual luncheon at River was a resounding success, thanks in no small part to the restaurant's commitment to exceptional service and its stunning riverside setting. Despite the inclement weather, the establishment's amenities, including the heated patio and tent, provided us with the opportunity to enjoy the natural beauty of the Connecticut River. The delicious food and top-notch service left a lasting impression on our group, and many of us are already planning to return for happy hour or dinner, eagerly anticipating the chance to savor more of what this remarkable restaurant has to offer.

I happened to come across this restaurant as I was looking for a place to take my wife for her 54th Birthday. I couldn’t have been more pleased with this establishment. Our server, Alicia was AMAZING. She was attentive, super friendly and on point. She made our dining experience 5 star.

Besides the service and atmosphere, the food was delicious. The Milanese pork chop and Parmesan Risotto were divine. My wife thoroughly enjoyed the Sea Scallop dish and Parmesan Risotto. Our BFF had the Salmon and that was awesome.

All in all our experience was definitely more than I anticipated and the price, AMAZING. Thanks for the experience we will definitely be back to dine right by the River in Summer 2024.

My first time ever in this facility the food was amazing the staff was very helpful they kept checking in with us our waiter Savannah was phenomenal I would definitely be coming back here from my birthday because I brought my husband here for his this was the perfect spot

Been meaning to try this place for a while. Finally did and it did not disappoint. Marcus was our waiter and we chatted for a while, hard working guy!! We were not very hungry and just in the mood for appetizers and drinks. The strawberry coconut martini was good, the beef skewers were too as well as the beef short rib dinner we split. Very tender with delicious sides. Then the pina colada cake for dessert was okay but the coconut sorbet it came with was fantastic!

Went for brunch and the patio seating was perfect. A sunny summer afternoon waterside on the CT river with no humidity and 80 degree weather. I got the calamari as an app. Light crisy and flavorful. Drank the Watermelon Ice Spice and the Little Havana, both were refreshing and light. Main course was the lobster roll which was perfectly prepped. Only wish it was a little bigger, but thats every lobster roll ever amiright? Ended with the Mudslide Oreo cake as dessert a la mode with a scoop of vanilla bean ice cream. Final: 1 app, 3 rounds of drinks 2 entrees and 1 dessert with 20% tip only came out to around $170.00.

Love the outside patio spread out and peaceful. Food was fresh and delicious. For the price I hope they add something like bread or some type of dish included. The music playing on a fall afternoon was perfect. Service was great waitress was helpful and even offered to take photos for us. It’s a little tricky to find but it’s a hidden gem for sure.

Would never know from the front of the building that such a lovely restaurant exists inside. Food is Fresh with that extra special above the mark quality. Would love to come here again!

We reserved a table for date night on my birthday. There was not much rush and got a good table outside. Heaters were turned on so it was very comfortable, although the weather was bit chilly.
The host and waitress were very friendly. We enjoyed the calm atmosphere and the food was great.

Such a great place, glad I finally got to check it out for the first time. We had a little bit of an issue with our food, but the staff took care of it immediately and everything was just fabulous. Such a great view, great atmosphere, big portions and awesome drinks. I will be back, definitely want to check out the happy hour.

The food was delicious the atmosphere great and Cristine our waiter was very attentive, the whole staff was great they wished me happy birthday as I was walking out, love it we'll be back. Congratulations to the Chef and a big thank you to whole staff for the best birthday ever. Thank you very much!

A lovely view. Service was prompt and friendly. Food was out in about 20 minutes or so. Prices were reasonable for the amount of food being served and the area. Would definitely come back here. My wife got their burger and I got fried fish and Parmesan truffle fries. They cooked her burger just how we ordered it and the piece of fish was big enough for me to eat lunch tomorrow too.

This is my second visit and the first for my husband. We went on Saturday for lunch. I made a reservation online but was told there’s no guarantee for outdoor seating. Luckily there were enough seatings left when we arrived. There are two levels of decks and lots of tables.
We both ordered seafood linguine. Hubby had white sauce and I had red sauce with extra spice. The portions were generous and they were very fresh and tasty. The waitresses gave us enough attention but not overly attentive. Coffee was refilled when it’s needed. Sarah was so pleasant and kind!
All of the staff wore masks as required by the restaurant. Customers can remove their masks when they are seated at the tables.
The view is spectacular. We saw steam boats drove by a few times.
Customers were considerate and not too loud.
We love this restaurant and will definitely return in the near future.

I have no complaints about this place. The restrooms are immaculate, the service professional and attentive. The food always looks and tastes great! Drinks never miss the mark and the view of the river is great!

2 words, Seafood Linguine. 1 word, perfection!! Just left the restaurant not too long ago. 5 stars for me. One of my favorites for sure. Although a couple menu options had run out, it was a great time overall. Appreciated the check ins from the waitress (Haley), other staff, and one of the owners. Made it felt extra special for me and my significant other on our late valentines day celebration. Keep up the great work! Will be returning for future visits as well as bringing along more people with me!

Today we celebrating our 12 years anniversary ❤ my husband wanted to try something new today. So we google restaurants in Old Wethersfield, CT. Top name was River a Waterfront Restaurant & Bar. We found a Gem 💎 with such beautiful a view of the Connecticut River. It has delicious food, great amposhere, music, amazing staff...we will be back! Number #1 in our list of restaurant to eat.

Martino is an amazing server! Great recommendations from him as well as awesome input on what we chose. The calamari was perfect, Mountaineer skillet and River burger were delicious and filling. Cocktails are tasty and the Cherry Garcia creme brulee is a great way to finish off an amazing brunch!
