Approaching the door to this coffee shop is a bit intimidating. It stirs excitement and curiosity as you enter the grand doors of historic downtown theater building.

I ordered their pistachio latte (with oat milk) and a bacon sandwich (hold the jalapeno jelly). I was a bit shocked by the cost of my order.

Knowing I spent over my budget, I anticipated disappointment thinking I over spent.

I was wrong dude. The environment is awesome and it matched the quality of the drink and sandwhich I got.

It’s a pricey coffee shop for me, but one I won’t forget about and plan to revisit as often as I can afford.

Greeted by a friendly team, ambient atmosphere, and speedy services, Grant kindly waited for my return to light up an orange peel as a method of enhancing the fragrance of this amazing latte. A must-see if you’re searching for a large aesthetic coffee shop with a unique menu.

When I lived in downtown I used to come here regularly. Great espresso and great milk drinks, although they don't carry cappuccinos. They do make a great flat white which is similar enough to scratch the itch. I'm not sure why they don't add it to the menu. The chai latte is also pretty good if you want something sweeter.

I've had most of the menu items, all good stuff 👍.

It's a little packed in there when it's busy but they do what they can with what they have by putting up artwork and lots of window seating, plus seating downstairs and outside.

Coat Check was recommended to us several
times when we took a recent trip to Indy. It was within walking distance of our Air BnB. Both my husband and I enjoyed the butterscotch latte and the croissants.

Best vibe and the coffee is amazing. Biscuit sandos are a bit pricey but very good, too. 10/10 highly recommend!

We stopped by here for breakfast after walking over from AirBnB. The entrance was quite inviting with a staircase leading up to the cafe. The color palette was this old rustic sort of feeling. The actual cafe was very similar to a coat check area; it was an interesting concept to say the least. It was quite packed when we arrived so we had to wait in line for a few minutes before ordering. I wish there was a QR code or something to access the menu or view before we got to the front of the line. There were a few paper handouts at the front of the line so we were able to quickly glance to figure out what we wanted.

We went for a croissant, Pistachio Latte, and a Butterscotch Latte. We had a little difficulty trying to find seating and didn’t feel comfortable walking up with lattes up the staircase so we found some seating to the side (benches) where we could sit. We had a chance to read up on the history of breweries in Indianapolis especially around the Prohibition Era that was quite interesting. The croissant and lattes were delicious. After finishing, we took some time to walk up the stairs where we found more seating, a bar area, and art pieces. We walked around there and observed all the different items. I definitely recommend everyone checkout Coat Check if they’re in Indy!

What a lovely place to enjoy you weekend late morning coffee with delicious quality coffee and beautiful latte art. This is my first time here and definitely not the last. Spacious architecturally stunning two-floors place with different designs for chairs and tables, it’s recommended whether you’re catching up with your friends or reading/studying.
Variety’s of delicious pastries, our croissants were great. I guess they will need to add more meatless sandwiches. Lovely courteous staff. Highly recommended.

Wow, what an amazing spot. Perhaps the best venue for coffee I've ever seen, with a museum / gallery / theater complex in the historic Athenaeum. The everything croissant and the drip coffee were both great. Great service, thanks staff, and people watching, there were dozens of people in there.

The coffee shop is situated in an old German American building. The coffee is amazing and the food is amazing. I got the sausage and egg biscuit sandwich which was amazing. Nice vibe with plenty of seating.

So happy I used this as my base camp for working while driving to Chicago. The most unique menu of coffee pairings I’ve seen! I wanted to try everything. Not to mention what a cool little building with an art museum upstairs and a retro “coat check” counter. Played good music to really get in the zone. I got an orange cardamom latte yum. For lunch I had a Cuban on this bagel-ish thing that isn’t exactly a bagel and I actually liked it better than a bagel much more texture to it. The mustard in the not bagel, bagel was so good too. The ginger beer I got later was just as delicious as it looks. Wish it was closer to where I live I would be a regular for sure.

2nd visit to Coat Check Coffee after a year and the quality and ambience continue to surpass my expectations. The customer service is on par and the coffee is beyond any variety that I tried in Indiana. We tried Latte with miso, cardamom and a vegan bagel. The jalapeño paste with the impossible vegan patty and egg was a fusion taste explosion for our taste buds. We enjoyed the ambience on a very cold day and highly recommend the German history within the building.

Ambience - German, historic architecture. Open & spacious space, medieval era setup and beautiful details on every nook and corner of Coat Check. We were wowed by the little details.
Coffee - Can I call out NIRVANA!? The speciality lattes are BOMB! butterscotch latte with the perfect hint of nuttiness and sweetness and the ginger latte with herbaceous notes of hibiscus and warmth of ginger. Let’s not forget the spice of chili de arbol! Wow just wow!
Food - No I am not a coffee and food kinda person but today being a Sunday ordered Breakfast and Pesto Bialy sandwich. The schmear & flavors fell right in place.
All in all highly recommend for work, stop by or enjoy a luxurious cup of coffee. Coat Check has my VOTE!

What a cute little place! Comfiest furniture around. If I lived here, this is where I’d spend all my free time. The guy at the counter recommended the pistachio latte. Always listen to the guy at the counter. Such a delightfully unique drink. My husband got butterscotch and it was excellent too.

Very spacious coffee shop, perfect place to do some work. Staff is very polite. Drinks and bakery also very good. I got a croissant and it was flaky and delicious, not soggy like sone other spots I’ve frequented.

Quiet place, if you want to enjoy some reading or me time or just enjoying conversation with someone.

A great place to either hang out with friends or get some work done. Usually crowded on weekends. The place is quite big with a variety of seating options. They have some unique coffee to try out, and some tasty macarons to go with the coffee. The bakery products are also nice, but a bit pricey.

Yum ! I am a coffee fanatic and very picky but the first sip had me in, unlike a lot of places you can still taste the rich espresso and then the sweetness of the latte. I love it they blew this out of the park. My coffee lovers should definitely try at least once. Ps- I got the pistachio latte.

I had one of the best lattes I've ever had here. The place is gorgeous and the quality of food is fantastic. They make all their own ingredients.

Love the vibe here! Great place to sit and study or get some work done. The coffee is very tasty and there's solid bike racks conveniently positioned right outside the front door.
