St. Croix River Crossing Loop Trail - Hilltop Trailhead

This is definitely a really nice walk! Starting from the Wisconsin Side, .75 of a Mile, walking down onto the Old Stillwater Bridge and into downtown Stillwater, St Croix River can easily be seen!
And then it’s a .75 mile back up which is a little hill up for sure back up to the parking lot on the Wisconsin side!

I think you “technically” may have to pay to park, but just fine somewhere off a ways to park and you’ll be fine.

Great hiking and biking you can't beat the scenery.you can easily burn 1300 calories a hike! Stop off downtown Stillwater for a reward beer or two! Recommend Brian's Bar and grill.

Unless you're parking on the Minnesota side, which would have you park in Stillwater, i'd buy the annual pass. Daily parking rate seems high on WI side. Wonderful trail. I drive from Minneapolis to walk this trail.

If you are a serious bicyclist, this is the trail to try.
I like to go up the hill by the lift bridge and go to the new bridge, do the Browns Creek trail, go north on the Gateway Trailhead and go back to Stillwater and do the 2 bridges the opposite way.
My computer shows about 32 miles total miles.

The reward for a challenging uphill walk for us old folks. A place to sit with the dog and watch the world go by.

Wonderful well maintained loop trail. 8% grade was a challenge. Scenery is great, highly recommended.

We started the loop with the 1/2 mile uphill ride (8% grade). That was fairly brutal to be honest, but my wife and I made it without stooping to rest. One you make it up that hill, there is short distance (less than 1/4 mile) where you are mostly on flat land with perhaps a bit of slight uphill. After that it’s pretty much downhill coasting. I kid you not. It was, however, a pretty nice ride all-in-all. The attached picture is taken from the newer bridge on a long downhill grade.
