Beautiful day for a walk in the woods. These 3 beautiful horses were on the trail as well.

Upton State Forest is an amazing place to hike, run, bike, walk your dog....feels like you are in the far northern woods in a quiet serine place.
The park road/Loop road hike is a nice 5K loop. Clockwise you have "half mile hill" about 2M into the loop. Reverse puts the hill at the end of your first mile and a nice gradual climb for the last 1.5M.
Go out and back to the end of park road added to the loop and you have a 5M route.
Want to do single track trails? There is lots to explore.
I did all of my Appalachian Trail training here as well as my first 15M Trail race.
Keep your eyes open for wildlife and remains of old settlement ruins from the 1800s.
Keep in mind you need to bring water and the 10 essentials for hiking. Cell service is spotty.

Great area for a bike ride! Narrow light traffic roads with gorgeous houses, flowers, and natural scenery! Exciting ride with plenty of nature and water bodies to explore. We have hybrid bikes so we were also able to take them on a wide path which had very light foot-traffic. Fairly hilly area so if you choose to bike or even hike, be ready to ascend and descend a bit, keep that head on a swivel, and most importantly enjoy your time!:)

This was my first visit to Upton State Forest. There were two parking areas. One was just outside what appeared to be the forest headquarters. There you will find one porta-potty. There's a walking path that leads to another parking lot. Both provide plenty of parking.

This State Forest has unpaved roads and trails. While you walk on the trails you may meet, hikers, bikers, joggers, and horseback riding as well as people walking their dogs. You may walk by a brook, river, and pond.

You may be able to pick up a map of the trails. One trail is designated with a 💗 which indicates that it is used for easy to moderate hiking.

✴✴ There are signs posted so people are aware that during hunting season people should wear blaze orange.

Overall a very nice place to hike. It wasn't heavily populated and everyone we meet was friendly.

Upton State Forest in October is a wonderland. Try the less traveled trails like Chipmunk and Whistling Cave.

One of my favorite spots to walk, great rails for dog walking horse riding and bikes! Easy to follow trails and a clean clear path with good parking and a restroom! Somewhat stroller friendly if you have a jogger as these are dirt paths.

Nice place to bring your dogs and let them run around off leash. They also have a pond that a lot of dogs like to swim in. Park is clean with many trails.

Very nice and so beautiful. I don't like the parking lot area too much but in general it's quite a nice forest filled to the brim in wildlife. Would reccomend. Also nice to see Kingfishers at the pond :^)

As easy or difficult a hike as you want. Everything from nice wide sweeping trails to little goat paths. One of my favorite places when I want higher milage than I can get in my local conservation area. People are friendly, most people pick up after their pooches, but there's still the occasional filled bag by the trailside.

One of my most favorite DCR parks to date. Very quiet and peaceful, I was one of three cars in the parking lot, even on a nice summer day. The trails are well-maintained and clearly marked, and maps are available at the entrance kiosk. This place is great for those who enjoy a more novice/non-technical trail for activities such as trail running, mountain biking, or hiking, given the wider width and minimal obstructions such as roots and boulders. I have nothing but good things to say about this park, and will absolutely return!

The main trails have been resurfaced, so you're less concerned about turning an ankle on roots or rocks. The three-mile loop makes a great walk. Also good for runners, mountain bikes and horses.

One of the best maintained and active state run forest. Pleanty of trails weave through thick wilderness. Water features, large granite boulders throughout. Word of caution regarding horseback riding in the forest dogs must be under control at all times. Year round great destination for a recreation treat. The entrance is off Westborough road in Upton.
