New Mexico 01-2024 Shaffer Hotel in city of Mountaire. There is a lot of hiking and day trip opportunities just steps away from this gorgeous sun drenched little burg.

But today it was cold as a Wells Digger Butt. Only 6 degrees. We stopped at the Shaffer Hotel which shares a building with the restaurant and according to signage a ghost or 2.

The waitress was very nice. The interior design was very eclectic and extremely Southwestern busy...I ordered a Iced tea With lemon And BLT on toast with French fries
Tony ordered a Iced tea also with a burger. Our food was very good. Definitely will go back if ever in the area. Highly recommend for toy to check it out, it's awesome!!!

Great historic Hotel and Ed went above and beyond to share the history and story's behind it. We also got a nice tour. Love it. Food and service at restaurant were excellent.

Stopped in after bike packing, Ed was extremely accommodating and super friendly. A comfy bed and hot shower was just what we needed! Delicious hearty home cooked food (recommend brisket and beans!), and clean rooms. Staff were helpful and friendly.

We had such a pleasant time at the hotel. Everywhere you look is history. Our room was comfortable and quiet! Thanks to Ed for accommodating us at the last minute!

We had a meal in the Shaffer Hotel and the brisket tacos and burrito were excellent. Some of the best brisket we have ever had!

We were also spending the night and Ed, the owner, was very accommodating. The hotel is 100 years old so the rooms are quirky and creaky, but also charming and unique. The bathroom had totally been updated, so new fixtures and tiling, but still with character.

A historic hotel with all the comforts and amenities of yesteryear. Service was simple and perfect. I've never had an easier time checking into a hotel. My only regret is not allocating enough time to fully enjoy the experience. I arrived late and had to leave early, a mistake I won't make next time.

We pulled into town with no reservations looking for a place to stay for the night. The owner Ed met us and did his best to find us a room. He had a guest checking out soon and was able to give us the room. The hotel is an old historic one with lots of history. We ate dinner in the dinning room and had a good meal. Room met our needs for the night. Expect to hear trains running quite frequently during the night. Fun place to stay.

This hotel is really a hidden gem. It has great character and Ed the owner, works tirelessly to make his customers feel welcome. I was heading through town on a motorcycle adventure and was initially going to stop for one night. I ended up staying for five. The attached Shaffer Restaurant is also a great place to grab a reasonable meal. If you're heading through Mountainair, this place is a treat.

June 4, 2021. We had an excellent meal with very good service. Staff was friendly and helpful. We had green chile meatloaf and chicken fried steak - very tasty! Vegetables were good as well and a nice salad.
Very good value in a lovely historical setting. Looking forward to an overnight stay!

This is an awesome old hotel & diner, loved all the older look & art work. Food is also great. Stayed the night and it was very peaceful. Does not have all the amenities you'd find in the bigger hotels like blow dryer, Iron, coffee pot 🍲 n your room but like I said it's a older hotel. Think I was told it was built in 1922, Lots of history there too. Does have air conditioner room with fridge & bath/rest room has been updated. There is a coffee pot in the lobby. I loved it 👍🏻 just watch out for 👻 😂🤣
The owner was very friendly as well.

We had lunch at the Shaffer Hotel restaurant.
It was excellent.
The food was fantastic and the atmosphere was amazing.
A blast from the past.
We took a self guided tour of the hotel.
We were able to look inside a number of the available rooms.
There's also a art gallery attached to the hotel that is a must see when visiting.
We're definitely going to come stay a night very soon.
The hotel is located in the small town of Mountainair, New Mexico.
It's about 60 or 70 miles Southeast of Albuquerque.
It's a beautiful drive from Albuquerque on a slow winding road that skirts the Monzano Mountains and takes you through three or four small towns before arriving in Mountainair.
There's three or four state parks within 10 to 25 miles that are truly amazing.
Enjoy New Mexico's back roads !

I have watched dinning at the Shaffer for years. The food has not been very good since Cowboys left however I was delighted to have such a delicious meal when it first came to our table I thought I would be unable to eat it all. IT WAS SO GOOD I cleaned my plate. The only thing I would change would be the chicken more stewed than sauteed and placed in the enchilada. The serve person was attentive and warm and friendly. Will definitely come back when in town.

Very nice old restored hotel. Restaurant is both comfortable and flavorful. Had the meatloaf. It was good old comfort food the grill chicken sandwich was good as well and all were reasonably priced. Pay tribute to the old days and pay them a visit.

We haven’t had a chance to stay at the hotel since it’s been finished, (yet,) but we have had the pleasure of eating at the Shaffer Dining Room, and have never had less than a 5 star experience. The service is fantastic & the food consistently delicious! Heather is usually our server, and she goes above and beyond to ensure we have a wonderful time!

While we didn’t stay at the hotel, we did eat at the restaurant. The dining room was very clean and the staff was very friendly. The food was good and reasonably priced…and there was a variety to choose from. They offer breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The kids menu only offered lunch items, no breakfast kids menu. If you’re traveling through Mountainair, I’d recommend stopping here for a bite to eat.i

What feels like an historic hotel. The restaurant has beautiful ceilings and decor. The rooms aren't extravagant but they are clean and well maintained. Watch out for the haunted stories you'll hear from the employees.

Very good authentic New Mexico meal! Waitress was great and cooks put out a nice combination plate. I enjoyed, too, the ambiance of an historic building.
