Hank's Oyster Bar

We had eaten at Hank’s in Charleston a few years ago and our experience at Hank’s in Alexandria was equally enjoyable. We started with oysters and clams on the shell, followed by shrimp and grits, ceviche and a side order of green collards. Everything was delicious. The chocolate mousse we shared at the end of our meal was average. We have had better. Overall, it was a great meal.

Omg!! We just had thee best meal we've had in a long time. I mean where our expectations were exceeded in all areas. I don't know why it took us so long to visit as it's been on my list for some years now. We love raw oysters and tonight I wanted some but did feel like going into DC to our favorite spot (Old Ebbitt's) . Hank's came up in the search and we opted for the Old Town location not only because of the reviews but figured parking be a little better. The reviews didn't lie...we greeted, everyone was kind and attentive. We had a great server (sorry I couldn't remember his name but he wore glasses). The only thing I didn't like that much was my drink. I got the OmG Becky, Look- not because it was poorly made. I just didn't like the flavors so much, but it was strong. My husband's frozen Hurricane was delicious. The raw oysters were soooo good. We got a dozen. They were fresh and delicious. Our server knew which ones to suggest based on my description of ones I did not like, since the featured oysters didn't have a description. His suggestions didn't disappoint! The BBQ grilled oysters were so freaking good too! So well cooked and buttery! We also ordered the popcorn shrimp and calamari which my husband said was very delicious. I opted for the Arugula and Radicchio Orange salad which has pomegranates, goat cheeses and candied walnuts. Not a fan of Radicchio but it sounded like a tasty salad. It was sooo delicious! We spent about $143 with tax and I don't regret one dollar spent! We will definitely be back.

I sat at the rooftop bar for a solo dining experience. Delicious oysters and drink! The atmosphere was perfect for a Saturday afternoon. Great service with very attentive and friendly people. I felt comfortable taking my time and asking questions.

It was not as busy as lunch time, but there were quite a bit of people at the tables. I imagine that it get very busy at happy hour, dinner and weekend brunch. Service was pretty good, with each of the wait staff jumping in when their associates are busy. Oysters are delicious, the mix grill excellent and lobster roll hits the spot. Would not recommend the greens or the burger; it's disappointing when you compare it to the seafood.

Had a very enjoyable dinner. The Sea Scallops were buttery soft, the key lime pie delicious, and the service was outstanding. In fact, a member of our party mentioned our waiter provided the best service she's experienced since being in the DC area. Sorry I can't remember his name, but he was friendly, funny and made the occasion an absolute pleasure.

We’ve been here three times in two days now. Twice for late lunch and one take out.

The oysters are on pointe. The steak - and I really don’t expect much from an oyster place for steak-was phenomenal. Rare and still a great warmth for takeout to our hotel room across the street.

Our servers were wonderful as well.

Also, ADA FRIENDLY. Ramp along the side.

Our waiter was Tommy and he took very good care of us. Solid portions and price during Restaurant Week. I had their braised short rib which came with a wonderful Mac and cheese. I don't usually eat oysters but the half a dozen I had for an appetizer were great. Chocolate mousse for dessert was also light and delicate.

Simple menu and done really well. The fish and chips were so crispy and flaky on the inside. We loved the atmosphere of the rooftop deck, and loved that it’s covered for all weather. The service was great, however we found ourselves waiting a while in between courses. Otherwise, overall a great experience.

Here for the first time for a night out with friends. Our waiter was warm and friendly and was super helpful with good suggestions. The fried oysters were crunchy and delicious. Also, the mains, crab cakes, ribs, and grilled octopus; were all cooked fresh and delicious.

Their French 75 was refreshing and a hit.

Came on a Tuesday night to this location, Sheraton right across the street. Ate at the bar downstairs, and had blackened salmon tacos and a side of hush puppes. They were fantastic! Highly recommend!

Good food, great staff. Multiple visits didn’t disappoint. Food is good, fresh cuisine. Not overly seasoned and really good. Really fresh and clean oyster selection. Great burger and old bay seasoned fries! Love Olga; great chatty bar tender who I hope to see again when I’m out this way. Pete was great also. Got to check out the always changing drink menu. Find it great that they have drink contests with the bar tenders to come up with new drinks for the menu.

Incredibly delicious seafood and excellent service. The New England Clam Chowder was fantastic ( and I’m from Rhode Island so that is saying a lot!) especially enjoyed the crab cakes and their delicious French fries with vinegar and Old Bay Seasoning. Had a great time here and will go back soon!

I used to frequent the old location when I come into town for business. It’s good to see the new location has the same delicious fresh seafood!

Absolutely spectacular. I had high hopes for this place since I'd heard such good things about it, and boy, it delivered.

We sat on the rooftop, which had a very trendy bar, comfortable seating, and a pretty view of north Old Town. I ordered two different cocktails and they were both delicious and came out fast.

The crab dip starter was to die for. So delicious. I ordered the crab cakes for my entree and they were delicious as well. Maybe not the best crab cakes I've ever had, but definitely solid. I recommend them. Our server was also excellent. Very cordial and he provided us with everything we needed.

Overall, I had a 10/10 experience. I would definitely recommend this place.

Great Place !! We really had good time and good food !
We were seating in the terrasse upstairs and it is nice organized.
We had a brunch. The tuna Tartare was delicious, spicy and well-balanced. The shrimp and grits is delicious, with some pieces of sausages. The Eggs Benedictines are sweet and tasty, very good as well.
The Service was good, on time, good advices also. We had a good experience there and really good time !
We recommend this place !

I’m just gonna call it “East-coast comfort food” at it’s finest! The oysters came out quick and very fresh. Great variety of oysters ranging from brine-y deliciousness to the delicate hint of the sea ones.. Plus don’t sleep on the lobster rolls and chowder, everything is good here!

Great restaurant in Alexandria Old Town North. We went here for lunch and went straight to the rooftop. Highly recommend. We sampled Oysters. Overall great selection for 3 dollars each. Had couple of Sri ka and tuna tarter for start. Also had fish n chips. Highly recommend going to Hanks for fresh seafood.

Hank's couldn't get any better. The oysters were incredible. Salty as they come. I could hear Poseidon beckoning me with his briney call. Our waiter was fun, attentive, and one heck of a goose chaser. This was my first experience with oysters, and now you could say I'm a converted bottom feeder. Hank you very much for such a wonderful experience.

The food was delicious. So fresh and amazing. The seafood plateau is worth getting! Everything tasted amazing and definitely worth trying out. Our server was phenomenal and very attentive. He made us feel welcomed and made the overall dining experience great.

Was looking for a place close to the hotel and was glad I found this place. Although I only did 2 small bites both were delicious! Service was fast and their drink menu is definitely worth a look.
