I have been diagnosed with a mental health illness for 14 years. This was my first inpatient experience. To say the least, I was nervous about the process, in addition to being ill.

So first, the facility is clean and neat. The staff was diligent about keeping it that way. It's a small inpatient crisis management program, so there are less than 10 patients admitted at a time. You have a room to yourself and, depending on your illness and where you are in the treatment process, you get a good bit of freedom. Privacy is somewhat limited but that is expected. There is also a cat that lives on site. He was great and interacted well with all of the patients.

At this program you are expected to participate as fully as you can with a schedule of group therapy. The therapy lasts the majority of the day. They cover a wide variety of topics, some I was very familiar with, others I had never tried before. Be prepared to work for your mental wellness. You receive plenty of individualized attention as well and can request additional time with a clinician if needed.

The staff here are out of this world. There are licensed counselors, peer resource counselors and nurses that are group mediators/directors. But in addition to those, there are the people that do your laundry, make your meals, and check in with you in the middle of the night when you can't sleep. You can tell that everyone who works there actually likes the job. For many, they have multiple jobs in the medical field, and their dedication is felt each and every day. They treat you as a person and not an illness.

You see a nurse every single day. Their doctor or physician assistant are there almost every day and are kind, courteous and knowledgeable. The doctor especially blew me away. When was the last time a doctor looked at you and not a computer during a visit? And he listened to my input! I feel that the medication changes started there were hugely beneficial.

While no one wants to be hospitalized, if you have to be, this is the place to to go. If I had to return I would do so without concern.

If you have a choice between Carilion or NRVCS, than I would go with NRVCS, which is not saying much. Expect mediocre service, unorganized therapists, and an unseemly wait for a psychiatrist (Still waiting). If you ever have the misfortune of having to depend on them for a case manager, I wouldn't trust them with a house plant.

James the director treated a friend of mine who is in recovery like dirt and has given our recovery meeting such a hard time that we were finally forced to find a new meeting place. This place is about the $$ not the people. Garbage.

Not the best place to get help with your issues. Turnover is a huge problem. Counselors and therapists leave within months of hiring. When you start to get comfortable with your therapist, they leave. Getting appointments, returning phone calls and prescription refills are a hassle. They are a disservice to the community and I recommend that you go somewhere else.

Just no. The only decent program is mhsb. Cm is non existent for the most part thr coincelors I wouldn't wish on anybody and the psych I have had there is not so great even rho he started out great with me. He literally just rx me a med that u are not supposed to take if u have a seizures disorder knowing I have one that this med will cause seizures and its a schizophrenia med he was supposed to be giving me something for sleep. Now nrvcs won't make me a new apps with him to go over this.

This place is a joke to the community, they lie on your name and you find out years later, they don't help you with your mental illness they just care about themselves. Do NOT recommend at all
If you have mental health
