Second Street American Bistro

The food here was excellent. Service was wonderful, and the surrounding ambiance wasn't too loud that you couldn't hear the conversation going on at your own table. We will definitely be back! Also, this restaurant was very accommodating to food allergies. A definite plus!

The BEST carrot cake you will EVER eat!!! Totally worth it! The food was great! Salmon was good, the PASTA WAS ONE OF MY FAVORITES! The honey chicken sandwich was DELICIOUS! I ate there a few times when visiting the area for work and every single time, it was AMAZING! The service, food, and atmosphere were fantastic!

I had been eyeing this restaurant for months! I workout beside it, and it looked nice from the outside. I decided to take my son for Valentines Day and was not disappointed. The ambiance was great. We did the heated patio, and it was nice! Our waitress was nice and patient. Their menu has a wide arrange of dishes from steak to pasta to salad to burgers and flatbread pizzas. It's not cheap but not expensive either, just depends on what you order. I had the lemon grilled salmon with wild grain rice and kale. It could've used a little seasoning. My son had the American burger with fries. The fries were delicious and so crispy! The burger was good, I assume. He ate it up! I had one of their specialty drinks made with whipped vodka and rice milk. It was delicious. I will definitely return.

We went here for the first time for my husband’s bday. He ordered the Bistro Steak, which in all honesty was one of the most tender steaks I have ever eaten it was AMAZING. I ordered the corn and crab chowder, which was delicious, and our son ordered the sweet and spicy chicken sandwich. It was messy but delicious. The chicken was incredibly tender, too. Great service, great food, and reasonable prices. We will definitely be back.
I also got the quiche, which was good, but I wouldn’t get it again knowing how good the other dishes were.

Food is always excellent and reasonably priced. Service is great and the atmosphere is enjoyable. I've never had a bad meal here. Their brunch is fantastic. If going for brunch, I'd recommend the corned beef hash (if it finds it's way back on the menu), the waffles (they're liége style), and the French Connection mimosa or belini.

Great place to eat. We randomly tried this place on our way back from Virginia Beach based on the Google ratings and the restaurant was not opened yet. We waited for a bit outside before they opened at 11.30. The restaurant is very clean and the ambience was awesome. There were people already lined up with us to be let in, so this must be a popular spot. The waiter was very nice and the food was delicious. We stayed outside on the patio thinking it would be cool, but with those plastic cover on top, that patio got hot real quick, so just be aware of that. Everyone and everything else was awesome here.

We dined at Second Street on a Saturday over lunchtime. We were in the area visiting our son who attends CNU. We came with a large group to celebrate a birthday. The staff and management were very friendly and fully accommodating of us. They went above and beyond to make sure we were comfortable and taken care of. The food was delicious, and the atmosphere enjoyable. I look forward to visiting again one day!

2nd st is amazing because of the manager Denise. She is the reason I visit! As longs as she’s here I will continue to visit! All staff that I have met has been wonderful. Kudos to Denise and staff!

April 4, 2023 - While staying in Newport News, VA, I chose Second Street American Bistro based on the great reviews. This restaurant did not disappoint. Ample free parking, great ambience, great service and very delicious food. For dinner I enjoyed the Herb Rubbed Grilled Bistro Steak served with Mashed Potatoes, Broccoli, Mushrooms and my choice of French Onion Soup. My mom and I were seated in the enclosed patio area. The decor of the space was so relaxing with string lighting and the sound of the water fountain.

Lex was the best waitress I've had had. Please guve herca raise. Illl definitley coming back

An excellent experience all around! We received fantastic customer service from the moment we walked in the door. We had the Bistro Board and the Homemade Chicken Tenders on the patio during happy hour. The food was so fresh and plentiful and the cocktails were perfectly crafted. Our server, Krystal, was on it, attentive and very sweet.
Thank you Aileen, Megan and Erin as well for a great afternoon of relaxing, recharging and enjoying life!

The food is always great and there are so many options. My favorite is the lettuce wraps but recently I discovered the Ahi Tuna that is super delicious. It was a pretty good sized dish for the price like all the items they offer. The servers are always attentive which is awesome. There's also outdoor seating that's creatively enclosed which is fun to sit at and enjoy.

The restaurant is nicely decorated and though the service was a little slow at first, the staff were lovely. The true star of the show was the food! The Virginia Jambalaya was fantastic: just the right amount of spice and the shrimp were cooked perfectly, I felt like I had to eat every last grain of rice!

Always delicious! I drive from Virginia Beach and meet my family from Richmond and we have lunch here as often as possible. Love their menu, you won't be disappointed, I promise!! (The shrimp appetizer and crabmeat are so good I bring some home for later!). We just te there again today for my birthday! Everyone had an amazing meal!

We dined here on Feb. 29, 2024. We had the fig and bacon flatbread pizza as our starter , without the crispy onions and arugula. That was the beginning of a fantastic dinner and great service from Jay.

We stopped in for lunch and we’re not disappointed! We were able to sit on the patio which is just lovely with potted plants on the tables.
The wait was a little long, but the server apologized and said they needed to remake the French fries. My husband and I each got a wrap: the 2nd St Chicken and the Thai poppin’ shrimp. The triangle on my plate is the gouda grit cake: it was delicious! If you like cheese grits you will enjoy it. (And of course, those battered fries are AMAZING). I probably won’t get the Chicken wrap next time, but only because I tasted my husband’s shrimp wrap which was spectacular!
Our server, Connor, was helpful and attentive.
This is our second time at this location and we will certainly return.

Ambience is fancy,according to our son,lol! The whole family agrees tho 😍 our waiter Evan is amazing, he always check on us. Food is awesome! Pretty much, we love everything! They are accomodating and most important is their smile! 🙏😇😍

Drew, the bartender here did an excellent job on the Old Fashioned cocktail. I have a dietary restriction and she was able handle my requirements without issues. Compliments to the bar!

Edit: I almost want to leave this review as a 1 star to catch the attention of those who only filter to the worst reviews.

Mickey reached to me and we had a great email exchanged. They not only fixed the overcharge but they also took steps to talk with the staff and used it as a learning opportunity. I can't ask for any more than this and I am happy to continue enjoying food and drink at Second Street! Thank you Mickey!

Very odd experience left me feeling cheated.

I ordered a manhattan with Elijah Craig. Didn’t think anything of it, when the bill came it was $43 dollars. $3 for the Manhattan, $40 for the Elijah Craig.

I questioned our waitress, she informed me this was the normal cost for Elijah Craig. Still puzzled, as a normal Elijah Craig is a sub $30 bottle, I asked to speak to the manager.

I was soon informed by the manager it was the allocated barrel proof bourbon. I challenged them just a tad and they held their ground on the pricing. Not wanting to cause a stir I closed out and still tip our waitress well.

I find this very dishonest. We should have at least been informed of this cost before purchase. The manager shrugged it off as if it was my fault and was too busy to even discuss.
