Wharf Hill Brewing Company

We took an afternoon trip to Smithfield and had the best experience at Wharf Hill. Prices are great, huge servings, and maybe one of the biggest offerings of gluten-free items I’ve ever seen at a restaurant! I tried the bangers and mash, which had some of the BEST gravy ever had. I was literally scraping the plate to eat it all :) my husband had a burger with a gluten-free bun!
We will be back, it was so good!

In an historic store in downtown Smithfield , with a cute small town feel.
Started with some of their draft beers made there, selection on chalk board when you enter restaurant, red ale and wiss were both good in a nice size pint cold glass.
Appetizers were Vegan cauliflower buffalo wings and fried green tomatoes. Veggie burger, grill vegetable wrap, and ceaser salad. Everyone enjoyed their meal, waiter and service was good.

One of my favorite places to dine! It's located in a historic building and much of the interior and furnishings were created or repurposed from salvaged pieces, which makes this place one-of-a-kind. The servers are all friendly and the food portions are huge. Everything I've tried is absolutely delicious!

Wharf Hill is fine dining Iin a casual environment. The staff is friendly and attentive. The atmosphere is cozy and warm. There are two dining areas and a bar. The menu is full of wonderful options. Hamburgers, chicken dishes, pasta, soups, sandwiches and salads. There are options that include ham since Smithfield, Virginia is home to the Smithfield meat processing plant. The bar is busy, but not rowdy. The dining crowd is families and couples. There are local made dessert options. The food is prepared freshly and it's always yummy! They have clean restrooms with chalkboards and you can leave a message even. If you have to wait on a table there are three benches inside and one outside. The parking out front is quiet limited and on the hill. If you have to park away then you have to hike the hill. The decor is rustic chic.

Delicious food, great atmosphere and great specials. The onion rings are huge! And the best I've had. The shrimp and grits were unassuming at first glance, but the flavor and consistency of everything was amazing. Also my boyfriend said the Rueben was the best he had ever had. Great, creative and delicious dessert options. Also the Coconut lime drink they have tastes like a coconut lime Pina colada and can't wait to go back for more! Portions were also more than adequate for the price!

The staff was great. Not busy when we went on a Tuesday midday stop while we were riding thru this little town. Food was great and hot! Would definitely return. Did drink beer this time due to being on my bike.

We have been here before and decided to bring my mom. We had a great dinner last night. Betty was our server and she was absolutely fantastic. They definitely pay attention to detail with food as everything we had was amazing.

Heard several word of mouth recommendations from local residents about Wharf Hill Brewing Company, so we were cautiously optimistic. And they delivered big time.

Two exceptional orders of huge onion rings and pretzel nuggets with beer cheese as appetizers.

Two people ordered country ham sandwiches that were thinly sliced and perfectly salted. One excellent hamburger.

After a recent disaster at a different restaurant, I took a chance on another pulled pork BBQ sandwich and was rewarded with a great meal. A huge stack of pulled pork on a tasty bun, a massive order of nicely cooked french fries and an very respectable coleslaw.

If you are in the town of Smithfield, its a smart choice.

Had an amazing lunch here with the family. Parking was a bit difficult to find but well worth the short walk. Tried a flight of their beers and all were pretty good. I definitely recommend checking this place out. I'll be going back soon.

My bf and I were passing through town and we wanted to check out a brewery. I googled this place and we decided to try it. I’m so glad we did. It’s not really a brewery but they do have a few beers of their own that they brewed. It’s a restaurant/bar. They have all kinds of drinks and a full menu. The place is super cool to look at. We sat at the bar and the bar tender was a young guy who was very helpful with the menu and took care of us well. The food was REALLY good. All of it! We had the fried green tomatoes, bbq won tons ( they look like egg rolls to me 🤷🏻‍♀) I had a burger with the Mac, my bf had fish & chips. We tried their craft beer which we liked and left with two growlers. One of my IPA and my bf a wheat beer. Had a nice chat with a local for a bit at the bar. Everything was awesome and lots of fun. This is the kind of place I wish we lived by but I know we will make the drive to go back because there’s a few more things I wanna try on that menu!

I had been to the Chop House which is twice as much but half as good. Between my wife and I we agreed this was the best meal we can remember and we are in our late 40's. This is the first time every single item that came out, to include the various sauces, with the entres and appetizers we excellent. I give candid and sometimes harsh reviews but this place is phenomenal in every aspect. We highly recommend.

Great selection of craft beers as well as a great variety menu of items. Everything we had was fresh, delicious and reasonably priced. Service was top notch. I'll be back!

My husband and I came across this place as we were seeking a new to us brewery and great food. It’s located in down town Smithfield and we drive about 20 minutes from our hometown to check this place out. The beer was amazing, good guest taps too! Our bartender Lydia took amazing care of us. We ordered the non wontons for an appetizer and shared a Rheuben and a Mac and cheese bowl. Best food we have had in a long time! We can’t wait to come back!

The only reason we spent alot was because we got 2 appetizers. Amazing food and staff. Wife got a shrimp po boy and I got the meatball sandwich. We ate so much and still had dessert. We drove from chesapeake to here and were not disappointed. It was a good parents night out! Oh ya and our kids ate the leftovers and loved it!

Unique, old pub atmosphere. Food was delicious. Taste of the traditional Smithfield ham in house made biscuits and loaded baked potato soup. Wide variety of items on the menu. Wait staff friendly and attentive. Highly recommended the "Old Brick Church" Irish red ale.

Are you looking for fried green tomatoes?!?!? I enjoyed a lovely lunch in a historic town that has great fried green tomatoes. The food was excellent and tasted great. The menu offers a nice variety of choices. I enjoyed the pulled smoked chicken with bacon and apple butter. I liked the apple Butter so much I asked for an little extra on the side. Note: take the time out to read the plaques on the wall. It provides some great historical information about the decor that is hanging from the walls. You will find a picture of the original owners of the building in one room and even a pair of oyster tongues hanging from the wall. Don’t forget to look down because some history can be found under your feet in the tiles near the bathroom.

Great dive and brewery. Food is excellent.
Not ADA compliant, so if you have mobility concerns then give this place a pass. The seats are hardwood with no cushion.

Otherwise 5 stars.

Great place to stop and eat! The homemade mozzarella sticks were unbelievable. Please don’t miss out on reading the back of the menu - there is so much rich history in there of the building you are in! So amazing!!!

We absolutely loved this new find. We were visiting my family in Carrollton, VA & they took us to this place. Pictured is our sampler - the mozzarella sticks were huge and delicious. Every worker person enjoyed their meal. We also had the chicken pot pie, the pretzel bites, burgers and more. All were delicious. If you go, don’t miss out on the mozzarella sticks. Yum yum! We also enjoyed their house made sauces! The waitress was very friendly and we had good service.

Drive here from Williamsburg, nice ferry ride,I've had almost everything on menu,always great,service always good,great drinks and bartender, definitely a must if your in the Smithfield area...... Or not !!
