Harpoon Larry's Fish House & Oyster Bar

Great find!! I was looking for seafood and I found the place in Newport News. I wanted to enjoy it all but needed to boil it down to smaller sizes. Ended up with oyster Rockefeller, cup of clam chowder, and seared ahi tuna. WOW! Great flavors on all and best decision. Bartenders on point to make this place a must if in the area and looking for local great seafood!!!

Truly the best seafood restaurant we've been to in this area! A great blend of Chesapeake style and Southern fried choices. We had a tasty crab dip to start along with raw oysters, then combo dinners. The crab cakes are a stand out! It's not all jumbo lump, but a healthy serving of crab with an amazing combo of flavors.

The fried oysters were lightly breaded and not greasy at all. You could taste the oysters....deliscious. the sweet potato fries were hand cut and thick.

Wow! This was a great place. The service, atmosphere and food was awesome! One of the best seafood restaurants I have ever been to! I suffer from gout, and had an attack the next day, but it was so worth it! It was the first time I ever had lobster and it was phenomenal. The BBQ Shrimp was amazing never would have thought it would mix but it was on point!! My wife said that the she crab soup was the best she ever had.

We ordered the Oyster Tower. The food was great. Our server was outstanding. They were busy, but the wait for our food wasn't that long. The cocktail drink I had was outstanding. Unlike other places, I can actually taste the alcohol in my cocktail drink. Our server was outstanding. The atmosphere was comfortable. The place was busy, but there were plenty of parking spaces.

Really enjoyed eating here. Everything was delicious, the service was very nice, and the atmosphere was on point. Pricing was also reasonable. Will definitely go back. I had fried shrimp with side salad. One picture is of the side salad alone. The other is the fried shrimp, and to make space ( we were a table of 7), I put my salad on the plate with the shrimp.

Local coworker told me to stop by and try the Mahi tacos at Harpoon. Was not disappointed. Ordered the wings, tacos with sweet potatoes and brownie Sunday for dessert. Amber, the server, was amazing and was helpful. Place was super busy for Tuesday dinner.

Delicious hearty food. The oyster stew and the She Crab Salmon were out of this world! Great service as well by Vanessa! She was awesome.

Update: Delicious food, and much less busy if you go earlier in the day. Our service wasn't the best, but the waitress was busy, so it's understandable. I highly recommend the Flounder Sandwich with fries and a side of hush puppies.

Really enjoyed my visit to Harpoon Larry's on my recent trip to the area. The food was delicious, the prices good and our waiter was excellent: professional, friendly, helpful with items and efficient. Amazing how good staff can enhance a meal. I had the Mahi tacos and they had just the right amount of spice and were made very well. Good selection of beers on tap too. Prices were appropriate for the food and drinks. Only issue was limited parking when I arrived as I had to wait for a spot to open while in the car. I would go back no questions.

Me and my family LOVED it. We went for my mothers in laws birthday and our waiter Matt was great! He even asked if we wanted to order my one year olds food first to get it out fast. (It was really thoughtful) I would recommend trying this spot. The service was fast and everybody was nice and the food was really good!! 100/10 from me!

Best seafood on the Penninsula. It is our go-to for fresh seafood. The local catch of the day was puppy drum. Our sever was wonderful . This restaurant is consistently great. My mother said whoever is in the kitchen knows how to fry fish, and she appreciates the dark skin side being left on for flavor. 10 out of 10 every time. Did I mention the crab dip? Sooo good.

Incredible food and beer! Fish tacos were fantastic and the hush puppies were UNREAL. Great service and atmosphere!

We had the oyster tower and fresh oysters. The oysters were fresh. The drinks were great. And the service was outstanding.

Amazing restaurant! Great vibes, delicious oysters & hush puppies, the best service. Everything came out quickly, correct, and tasted delicious!

The oysters came with a fun an tasty sauce arrangement. There was a cool oyster shell chandelier in the women’s bathroom (the men’s was sadly lacking such decor). Our waitress Amanda was very helpful answering all our questions and humoring our request for a good beach to visit while we were there.

It was our friends birthday and they brought her a free slice of key lime pie! No theatrics or singing, which we were grateful for.

We came on a Sunday afternoon and it was not very busy at all.

Definitely recommend, and we will definitely be back next time we are in the area!

Harpoon Larry's is one of our favorite restaurants for a long time. We've since moved out of the area and we try to come by whenever we are in the area. They have been consistent thru out the years. The food and service are still great. I recommend the crab dip to start with. Any of the seafood options are great since they get them fresh locally. I'm a fan of the steam shrimp, and they have that on special once a week. I also love their hushpuppies. If you don't get it with your meal, I recommend ordering some to share.

Food was amazing. The Flounder, scallops, shrimps, and crab cakes all broiled was so good. My husband had the she crab and blackend salmon...I can make that my last supper it was so good.

The calamari was ok. Not something I will order again.

Stopped by driving through town. Well worth it. Got the BB tower and added on the crab cake dinner with a scallop starter. The rest of the party had clam chowder, chicken fingers, gumbo, ice cream, and the chocolate brownie. Well worth the stop. I think there are still 2 shrimp floating in the back of my throat. Definitely ate too much. Worth it.

Delicious food, well curated draft selection, homemade desserts, the key lime pie was tasty. Never had a bad meal here.
