Doc Brown's BBQ

This is where you can get a no frills BBQ meal with some wonderful sides. While not fancy, it has the true vibe of what you should get for a hometown business that the locals had takeaway by the bag full. The rbs are NOT the fall off the bone stuff that so many hold dear. Having run the Maine KCBS event for three years, with one winner scoring big at "The Jack" this would rank right up with the big boys. Relax, let down your hair and enjoy some great BBQ.

We are visiting the Asheville area from Ga and got a recommendation to eat here after asking for a good mom and pop place to eat. I am so glad we did. First Trex is an absolute star and provided the best customer service that we have had in a good while. I ordered the Brisket plate with sides of Mac &cheese and collard greens . I devoured it. (Didn’t get a before pic) . I’m super picky about my brisket and it was just fall apart, melt in your mouth deliciousness. My husband ordered the half chicken and he pretty much pick the bones clean. That alone speaks volumes. All the sides were delicious. They had 3 different sauces at the table and brought a white one out . So there should be something for everyone’s taste if ya try here! Learned today is their 7th year anniversary!!Happy anniversary I wish nothing but success and happiness to y’all!. We definitely will be stopping in again before we go back to Ga ❤

Everything is absolutely delicious. Try almost anything with the Candler Comeback sauce: unbelievable! The BBQ is tender, juicy, and flavorful. Occasionally, meatloaf is available which I highly recommend. On the side, mac and cheese pie is browned to perfection, certifiably lip-smackin collard greens don't sit but for a minute, and a most structurally-sound flavor powerhouse of a cornbread muffin with a complex sweetness and those wonderful edges is such a treat! I also frequently request bourban apple sauce, calico baked beans, and the stewed okra is cut CHUNKY! Amen to that!

I hold a special place for the fried cabbage and the sweet potato soufflé and will go straight for the Lexington slaw. It's tonic for the soul. It's finely shredded, peppery, and has a gentle bite and the slightest touch of sweetness that goes very well with the BBQ and the brisket or on its own okay.

The selection of sauces is a delight for all kinds of tastes, and they are all amazing, but I keep going back for the red sauce and the comeback.

I am working very slowly through the menu because the dishes are all so good. It's tough not to want to try the same things again. Also, I am in no hurry to rush food this tasty. A few things I aim to try next are the ribs and the Brunswick stew and the half chicken.

But behind it all, it's the fine people that own and operate this establishment that make a profound difference in everything. They aren't sitting up high on the mountain while their people slave away. They are on the ground smoking meat early in the morning every day and serving up customers all week long with authenticity. When they ask how's your day, you know they actually care.

This isn't any corporate chain. This is a real local business for locals and tourists alike. Everybody is welcomed and appreciated, and the food is consistently delicious every time. I have stopped by countless times and never had a single complaint, and I promise I am not scared to speak up. There just isn't anything else to say, but thanks, Doc!

Over time, I will add more photos to showcase some of my favorite moments. There is slways something I love here, but that Meatloaf may be best in Asheville. I want to eat a lot of it like a Meatloaf Goblin. It brings me straight back to my favorite dish growing up when Mom made it, except, sorry Mom, Doc's is a few steps ahead. Finish off with an apple cobbler of your dreams or some banana pudding. Come for the BBQ. Sit and enjoy the genuinely friendly service.

Delighted with the BBQ experience! The brisket was so tender it practically melted, and the cornbread was exceptional. The sweet potatoes and baked beans complemented the meal perfectly. A must-try for BBQ enthusiasts!

Where do I start. I absolutely love Doc Brown’s. The customer service is truly the definition of southern comfort and hospitality. The food has always been consistently amazing throughout the years. I got the tri-tip plate last night and it was so wonderful, I ate it all with no regrets. Local brews on tap, and the most reasonably priced in the area. Live music is coming back for the season, and it’s always so fun and refreshing to see the community get out and have a nice time. Thanks Doc Brown’s!

Absolutely amazing food. Everything was just amazing. The macaroni salad is delicious and if you like collard greens, no need for anything else. Perfect from the first bite sweet salty with a little bit of spice. Cornbread was just the right amount of sweet and moist. The pulled pork is so good. Everything was awesome. Will be back soon! The wife and husband were so nice and helpful with the menu and always checked every couple of minutes to see how we were doing. Thank you!!

Love everything about Doc Brown's BBQ! Awesome food, great people, live music events, and just a cool place! Go eat all the things there - everything is amazing! Yum!!

I've heard good things about this place over the years and finally made my way out there to try it. I got the pulled pork plate with collard greens and Mac and cheese pie. My significant other got the same but with baked beans instead of collards. We also got some spare ribs on the side, bigger than I thought they would be but at $3 each a really good deal. I also grabbed a thing of their Brunswick stew to try later at home. All the food was fantastic, pork was incredibly tender and moist without any overwhelming seasoning on it. Mac and cheese pie was amazing, best one I've had at any restaurant. Would totally eat here again.

Small thing but worth noting: they have a parking lot, so you can freely roll up in here and get food. They also have a drive thru available too.

Brisket sandwich was solid. Tasty bark and just the right amount of flavor hidden in the fat. Pulled pork was tender and plentiful, just needed a little level up with sauce. Not an issue, a decent selection of sauces.

Stopped by here while visiting Asheville, per my Airbnb host's recommendation, and couldn't have been more pleased! The BBQ is the best around and the service was great. Be sure to try the ribs, the pulled beef plate, and pulled pork sandwiches, they were incredible. And all of the sides will leave you coming back for more! 10/10 recommend this authentic and local BBQ joint.

Just moved to Asheville from Texas, and I didn’t expect to find the best BBQ ribs I’ve ever had in North Carolina! The glazed spare rib by the bone is such. Great deal and you can customize your sides and a variety of sizes from a dab of slaw of a full portion. The cokes are always chilled just right! The perfect stop for some incredible food!!

We had the absolute pleasure of having Doc Brown's cater our wedding this November and I cannot recommend them more! We loved their food from eating at the restaurant and reached out about catering. Their catering prices are super reasonable, and all our guests said the food was amazing. People kept saying I wouldn't eat on my wedding day, but I ate an entire plate of food and loved every bite. David (owner) also felt like an ally in our wedding planning and continually reassured us that it would all work out, and to really take the time to enjoy the day. We felt like he had our back and we had complete faith that everyone would be happy & well-fed. They surely were and we can't wait to come eat more Doc Brown's. Thank you again David & team!

This place is gem. Really authentic southern barbecue in a charming and friendly setting. Staff was super friendly and helpful and the food arrived shortly after I ordered it. Pulled pork and the Lexington slaw is a must-have. Be sure to try the South Carolina style mustard bbq sauce, so good I took some back home with me! If you’re an out-of-towner like me, this a great place to try if you really want a true taste of Southern and Carolina style barbecue.

DELICIOUS!!!! Meats are super tender, Mac and cheese pie creamy and collard… just like grandma would make. Sweet tea… sweet and southern. Sauces… Carolina Mustard, Carolina vinegar and sweet red….yummy!This a must stop!

Was surprised to see beef ribs on the menu. Two large, very meaty ribs that were killer! Great bark and flavor, super moist. These are definitely Texas quality beef ribs! Had a small sample of their brisket also, which was excellent. If you want great bbq, this place has it. the lady that waited on me was very nice also and gave excellent service. I will be coming back here.

I had smoked meat loaf, corn bread, and sweet potato souffle and it was outstanding! The service was fantastic! Not a big place, but a big taste! Highly recommended!

This is amazing food y'all! We had it catered for our wedding! Everyone raved over everything! The absolute best Macaroni and cheese, hands down. We had the chicken and pork bbq with baked beans,, potatoe salad and coleslaw. I cant get enough of the potatoe salad.The Service and delivery was exceptional! Give them a try, you won't regret it!

This is a small mom and pop shop. I absolutely loved it . It is some of the very best beef brisket I have ever had. It is very moist and very tender. I also love the dry rub over a sauce, you can taste the true flavors. The staff was extremely helpful and very friendly . Unfortunately the inside dinning room was closed, but looks like a great place to take the family or group of friends when reopened. Hope everyone will consider this as good of a choice as I have.
