This building is visible from the main road. The parking lot appears to be under construction (being repaved) but enough parking for a few cars at a time to be parked comfortably.
Lovely historic building, a lot of history, and Miss Betty is full of knowledge. About the house and the surrounding area. She was very helpful in getting around. If you have a child under one I would suggest carrying. I was allowed to park my stroller downstairs and walk around. Photographs were encouraged. Noticeable signs not to touch items of the house.
Small and narrow stairs to go upstairs. I was able to navigate without issue with a child in tow.
You could donate to support the building.
I would definitely recommend a stop to visit.

Beautiful gift from France. It is Castroville's Visitor Center. It is packed full of European furniture and decor. Two floors are open to the public. Woman inside was helpful and friendly. Ask where the locals eat, then go. Take the self guided walking tour. You will not be disappointed!

we made a short trip to this little town when we were staying in San Antonio during Thanksgiving break. This town is conveniently located near San Antonio. We went there but the visitor center was closed that day. However we were able to experience beautiful architecture that this building offered.

Very cool stop outside of San Antonio. Interesting to see & learn about the history of the house. Host there was very knowledgeable. Do drop some dollars in the box and take a visitor’s guide. Then continue on to the Castroville walking tour to see all the houses (you can drive around too if you prefer).

I saw this place out of the corner of my eye while driving and had to pull a you-turn to make sure I saw what I thought I saw. A life size ginger bread house in Castroville, Texas, a small Texas town. It was the Alsatian Steinbach House. It is a beautiful, real house from centuries past. It was a real house in France. I don't remember the century unfortunately. The house and all of its parts were numbered, deconstructed, transported to this small town and re-built by the numbers. Inside it is full all artifacts from that and the rooms are fully furnished with authentic furniture, kitchen wear and clothing. The house was brought over the locals whose roots lead back to the Houses Native land. Forgive me that I don't remember all of the details. It was donated to the local government and it served as a government office for a few years. Eventually it was turned into the museum it is today. Entrance is free and absolutely worth a stop if you are in the area. They do receive donations but you are in no way pressured to do it. I would recommend leaving a donation because all there staff is a volunteer staff and the facility is funded by the local government.

Great visitors center. I especially enjoyed the story on how the people of the alsace region of France donated this 1600s home to the city of Castroville. The home had already been disassembled and was in storage. They moved the timbers to Castroville and spent years reassembling the home in the original style.

All in one package giving an overview of a simple alsatian life. You can be the obvious tourist slathered in coconut sunscreen and dash in and out in minutes to check a block or you can take more than a few minutes to really understand the story of this community. No cost at all. There will be someone who can provide knowledge on the town and of course this specific house.

Visible from road decided to stop. Very cool old French home. Furniture very old, it's sort of a tiny museum.

A quaint little house. Unfortunately, it was closed when we went, but if you’re in the area why not stop by for a few minutes to check out a piece of history

This beautiful house is 400yrs old and was brought over piece by piece from Alsace, France as a gift to Castroville. If you have some time I definitely recommend touring this historic home because photos do not do it justice.
