Pompeyos Mexican Grill

Love, love, love the chips and salsa. So fresh! So yummy! So flavorful! A definite fiesta for your tastebuds!!

We were there for lunch. Ordered the lunch chicken enchilada and two beef tacos. I wasn’t crazy about the beef. It was very finely cooked and reminded me of “Taco Bell meat”. But I do love their fajita salads and everything else was very yummy.
Did I mention the chips and salsa are so fresh and yummy?!! I can still taste them! The crisp crunch of the warm chips, the well blended cilantro, jalapenos, tomato, onion, and spices of the salsa. Just perfect!!
We visited in the winter, but they do have outside dining in the summer and there is still a beautiful view of Lake Huron any time of the year!

August 2023 - came here on my wife's birthday. We had some good food and we sat outside in the covered part of the deck. Wonderful view of the water from our location and the playground was close to the restaurant.

The kids meals were good. The chicken was really good.

For the appetizer we ordered the sampler. It was really good and there was a lot of food.

I ordered the combination dinner #1. Two tacos, tostada and enchilada. It was good.

They brought us a side order of chips and salsa. All very good.

Our waitress was awesome and very helpful in what to order.

Overall, I would recommend this place.

This place is really great! The food and service are amazing. The dining room is large and the windows on the back wall have great views of the lake! They give you chips and salsa when you order. This is a great restaurant! Give them a try!

Great lunch. Had to ask for the fish taco they are not on the menu. They tasted very well.

First time visiting Pompeyos. Comfortable seating, great margaritas, even some flavored varieties. Start out with some really good chips and salsa (individual salsa bowls and salsa in a mini decanter, great idea!) The food was really good, plentiful portions and authentic. Thoroughly enjoyed our dinner. Will have to come back in the summer to experience the patio overlooking Lake Huron.

An excellent example of good Mexican fare. The staff was very helpful and gave suggestions on what the menu’s list was. I came on a bicycle, but there was no stand or post to lock up, so I had to cable the bike to the street sign. No big deal.

First time here and the reviews I read did not fabricate how great this place is! My husband and I shared the appetizer sampler, it was fantastic! The chips and salsa were so fresh and tasted wonderful. Finished the meal with the best fried ice cream ever!! The staff was very attentive, we never wanted for anything! Last of all the view, right on Lake Huron (see my picture)! Great place and we can't wait to go back!!

I came upon this restaurant while driving around looking for a place to eat. In all honesty, I was about hit up Taco Bell when I saw Pompeyos. Why not have real Mexican food instead of feux Mexican food, I thought. Turns out it was a good decision. The chips were fantastic! They weren't your run-of-the-mill tortilla chips that you get at other places. They were airy, warm and crisp. My go-to meal at Mexican restaurants is the chimichanga meal but I went rogue and got the Chiles Poblanos, another good choice! I highly recommend it! It was a bit spicy but delicious. The service was very good. Attentive and quick. I will be back when I visit Alpena again.

We first tried Pompeyos for a carryout order during the height of covid. We weren't really impressed with the quality/taste of the food, but not too bad. A couple years later we decided to give it another chance, and decided to dine in so we could have a look at the view. Wow! The view is excellent and the food was excellent as well! Really satisfied with the food, drinks, service, AND the prices! We are going back! (hopefully often!) Fine restaurant in Alpena!

Fantastic food! The chips and salsa was delicious. I got a mega burrito and it was great. The view from our seats was beautiful. Definitely recommend stopping.

The most amazing meals we had for dinner tonight for my birthday was our first time there but many more visits to come ❤ Service was great she was in top of all our requests which is a must for this family 😂

Everything was delicious! The chips were especially good. The sampler appetizer platter was absolutely huge and fantastic. We also got great service. The windows look out over Lake Huron, so the view is gorgeous. Definitely a thumbs up!

Had a great experience at this restaurant for lunch. Our server was very nice, and service was fast! Environment was quiet, made for a peaceful meal. Beautiful view of the lake out of the windows. Was clean in the dining room. Lots of options on the menu, decent prices as well.

The food was absolutely amazing! The queso and guacamole were fantastic along with all the rest of what we ordered. Chicken flatulas blew our mind how great they were. I explained we don’t get to eat different foods often our town basically has pizza. So I asked to add a couple flatulas and queso for my daughter to try. We got home and there was plenty enough for us to share 💕 we decided to make the 1.5 hour trip at least once a month.

First place I have been able to find fajitas!. I need to go back to check out more items on the menu. Looking forward to it. Great window view. Staff was friendly. We had to take extra time to enjoy the menu. A wonderful experience.

Excellent family-owned and operated Mexican restaurant! Generous portions and amazing margaritas!

Outdoor seating is available, including a screened porch. An upstairs dining area with a pool table is also available.

Family-friendly, including a child's menu. Very fast and friendly service. A+!

So delicious!! Wonderful service and gorgeous view of Lake Huron! Several tables needed to be bused but that could be a staffing issue. A seagull landed on a table and helped himself to leftover food! Very funny!

We just went back to the restaurant for our anniversary. The staff was absolutely delightful and accommodating. They were very attentive. The food was delicious and the chips were amazing. We enjoyed ourselves. Thumbs up!

We love visiting Pompeyos Mexican Grill whenever we're in Alpena, Michigan.
The tacos are delicious, homemade shells, many choices of meats, generous portions, vegetable options for those not eating meat. Carne asada, Pollo Alpena, Pollo Mexicana, all good choices for us. They have monster burritos.

We had a really good experience here. We were staying in the beach motel next door for two nights and walked over for dinner on the first night. The margaritas are fantastic, the food was great, and our server, Danni, was amazing! She was bright, sunny, and funny, and at the same time efficient and quick. A little later in the evening I popped back in to see if the restaurant could give me a pack of matches and Juan, an employee, just handed me his own lighter. What a kind gesture! We returned the next night just for another margarita or two and Danni grabbed us up to serve us. We probably won’t be in the area again but we sure recommend that you stop here for a meal. Hopefully, Danni will serve you!
