Balkan House Ferndale

What a great find! When so often restaurants seem to be so similar, a dime a dozen, this one stands out-

Service was great! The young lady( wish I had gotten her name) wears many hats and does it all with a positive, friendly…attitude- Answered questions about background of the sandwich- She was quick considering she had customers at the counter, serving food to customers at the tables, cashing customers out, dishing up soups, salads …People better tip her well!

The food ( sandwiches and bean soup) were delicious! The absolutely best bean soup I’ve had outside of my own home. It tasted exactly how I would make it at home so flavorful-Served with 2 chunks of hot fresh bread-

The sandwich was delicious- it reminds me of a Gyro, but it’s stuffed in a pita type bread- a cabbage, lettuce type slaw and special dressing- The meat is like Gyro meat excepted. It had a zesty type seasoning. Sooooo good!

Turkish coffee will put hair on your chest- 😂 Husband needed a lot more cream-

The feta, cucumber, tomato salad was good, but a bit pricey-

Prices are a couple bucks higher than I’d expect and I think the prices I saw online were less-

Minus the coffee- Meal was $40 plus tip- My husband got the coffee at the end of the meal-

What a fantastic place to enjoy a great meal! Everything was delicious and the portions were well worth the price. We had the Doner kebab and the Chevapi ( Bosnian sausage) Cevapi. Both dishes were delicious and authentic. We both recommend this restaurant wholeheartedly. Overall-A+++

Good food, definitely authentic. Interesting flavors. Staff was kind, friendly and attentive.
We drove for almost 40min because a friend recommended this place .
Ferndale is not very kid friendly…but this place was worth it. We sure enjoyed their food! The kids had the mini burgers and we tried the Kebap & cevapi. Grabbed a tray with skewers and other goodies to go.

The Cevapi and Bosnian salad were outstanding, and the staff were attentive and super friendly. Odlično!

5-stars every time. I’ve only tried a fraction of the menu, but I’m sure the rest of it is excellent!

Grabbed food for the family and got more items and kabobs. Excellent! Better than last time, IMHO. The kabobs were amazing, the crepes are yum, but the baklava is the best that any of us has ever had and we're pretty picky about our baklava! Just a great real European meal locally made.

Excellent Döner Kebab, OK fries. First visit, called my order in and they brought it out curbside, so I can't comment on the actual place, but the staff I interacted with were friendly and professional. The Kebab was excellent, hearty, tasty bread, generous amount of lamb, great tasting sauce and fillings, just an excellent food. The fries sadly were undercooked, not severely, just could've used some extra time, but a minor complaint really.

My husband and I have ordered the Döner bowl multiple times and it’s probably the best thing I’ve ever eaten. I’m obsessed and everyone needs to try this place. The food is incredible and the people are genuinely so kind. Absolutely recommend!

OMG THIS IS HEAVEN!! Hands down one of the best restaurants in Ferndale. I used to work right down the road in royal oak and would eat here frequently for lunch and would always get the Doner Kebab chicken/lamb they are both tasty and the fries are so crispy and good! We also tried the Turkish coffee this time durning our visit and it was so good.

I had the Döner Basket and Döner Kebab both with Specialty Sauce. Both of these meals were delicious. Every bite on these meals was enjoyable. Is it exactly authentic European? It’s not quite there, but it is better than most places i’ve had here.

Ordered on an app and it was ready in 10-15min.

Food was delicious and service was excellent. Breads are made in house and the menu is unique but delicious. The owner is wonderful and helped us make our menu selections as well as sharing her inspiring history of moving to the US and running her restaurants. The atmosphere is simple but comfortable and I highly recommend giving this restaurant a try. We greatly enjoyed our meals and are looking forward to returning again soon.

I had takeout brunch today, and it was delicious. I chose the crêpes and the cevapi. This is authentic Eastern European food right in downtown Ferndale. Service was quick and I enjoyed leaving them a tip. Hope to be back soon.

Stopped in for dinner. Cevapi was excellent!! Not to salty, tasted fresh. The Bosnian salad was very good and had lots of onions! I only wish they had white onions with the cevap, but that's just personal preference. Also, order the palacinke! Presentation was wonderful! Service was great, very friendly people. Definitely going to stop in again! Hvala za sve!!

I wish their Thursday deal was everyday. Nonetheless, great food and great service. I try to eat here every Thursday with my family.

The perfect spot for a quick meal!! I love Balkan House!!

Delicious. We tried the beef/lamb & chicken Doner with the seasoned fries. I really enjoyed my experience. Highly recommend!

I don’t give 5 star ratings out easily. But as a German living in Michigan, I can say that their Döner Kebab easily deserves 5 stars! It’s a must have! The fries were very tasty as well! I will definitely be back to try more more items on the menu! Metered parking only (except for weekend) staff was very friendly and helpful! 5/5!

Great restaurant! I also want to add: Döner is Turkish, not German. The owner learned of the recipe from Turkish immigrants who lived in Germany. We are the largest minority group there and döner is our food we’ve imported to Germany since our presence exponentially multiplied in the country after WWII. There is no such thing as German style döner; the word itself is Turkish and stems from the word dön, which is to spin, to reference the cooking style of the meat. “German style döner” is erroneous and just an example of erasure based on anti Turkish and anti Muslim sentiment that is very prevalent in Germany. The döner is very close to the same quality and taste as the ones I’ve grown up with in Turkey for a reason.

The Donör is just like I had in Berlin last year and the Balkan Cuisine really adds to it. Great location too! I met the owner and you can tell she is passionate about good food and good service. I highly recommend it! I texted friends immediately after eating to let them know.

Such a great family owned business! I enjoy both locations and the food is always terrific. You won’t leave hungry!

It’s a great location that is right in the middle of foodie-row. Very clean location with limited indoor seating. Fair warning: they may not honor the special deals posted on their Facebook page!
Update: The manager reached out to me to tell me the workers were new the day I came in. The promotions should be honored.
