The Tongue and Groove Store

We had a great experience with this company. We ordered the white washed tongue and groove for a kitchen ceiling project. Quality far exceeded what we looked at in the big box stores and the price was very reasonable considering it came pre-finished and ready to install.

We are beginning to look for a new wood floor and they were very helpful. Clear explanations without any high pressure to purchase.

I stopped in to get a single piece of lumber, I get the feeling they don't often sell to hobbyist woodworkers like myself, but were happy to help. The price was on par with the others in town.

Great service and a great product!!! I will definitely be back for my next project.

Update: After a horrible customer service experience and zero follow through, care or concern from this company, a year later all the trim we purchased from the tongue and groove store is dis- coloring. I expect zero response from this place. They took my money, blew my order and schedule, and now a year later my millwork is junk. Something is bleeding through the paint. Brand new house. Im a builder, this is not normal.

I don't think there's a negative star review, which is what I'd like to give this store. My experience with this business started out okay but went downhill with each phone call I made to them. After receiving samples and deciding which wood species I wanted, I called for the pricing. I wrote these down so as to correctly remember them. Several weeks later, I called again and was told a higher price on the same product. I told the representative, Ann Anderson, (whom I was told was owner/manager) that wasn't what I was quoted and she said she didn't understand why it was different even though she was the one I talked to each time. I called back that same day because I'd forgotten to confirm the delivery price that I was given several weeks before and that had gone higher. After considering the purchase for another week, I called again and was told that if I didn't have a paper/text form of the prices that were given, she wasn't willing to work with me even a little on the price. While on the phone, I again sat and re-thought it over and decided to make the purchase after all. When Ann told me the price on delivery, that had gone up again as well. It was at that point I decided this business didn't deserve my money.

Kyle & Ann the owners-- This odd couple cant seem to decide who is running the show. After twice visiting the store and speaking with Ann--who has the personality of the nearest fencepost and acts like she is doing you a favor by selling you flooring at full price--because they are SO BUSY....and not receiving even a nickel reduction in price...I decided to wait for some type of inducement to buy. On a third visit I met with Kyle who was more friendly and agreed to a bit of a break when asked for a best price. When I mentioned how about if one pays cash he offered to waive the sales tax. This combined with the earlier discount made for a total of about a 10% discount so we agreed and I paid a $1500 cash down payment. After a delay of many months (contractor health issues) I received twice telephone calls from Ann asking me to pick up the product. I pleaded for more time due to delays. I agree the time between order and pick up was extraordinarily long. The next call came from Kyle saying starting that day there would be a daily storage fee. I asked for a total balance due and made arrangements for pick up. A short while later Ann called to say there was a mistake and the balance due would now include taxes. I explained Kyle had offered a break on taxes if paying cash. She then pretended she didn't know how or hadn't heard of backing out the taxes from the agreed sale price and subtracting that amount from the total. I insisted on the original agreed upon price or I would cancel the order. Honestly I cant remember the details but there was a penalty for cancelling. I had to threaten a small claims court action which I assured Kyle they would lose since I had a receipt showing balance due and 0.00 on the line item for taxes. When visiting the office to recover my cash deposit Kyle informed me only Ann the great OZ is allowed to access the checkbook and there would be no cash refund either. So now I am being put in the uncomfortable position of having to take their word and trust the people who are being dishonest in the first place. The check did arrive about a week later. I recommend Riverside Flooring in west Duluth where Alan and his wife provided quality friendly service and product...a beautiful solid yellow birch floor including underlayment, nail gun and nails.
