Great place to take a walk or to panfish!

I lived in St. Marys, Ohio for 34 years and have visited the 40 Acre Pond many times. This pond is part of the Miami-Erie canal system located north of Lock 13 in St. Marys. Glynwood road, west of Glynwood, has a bridge that passes over the pond. There are a few parking places where you can park and view the pond. I have also parked in the lot in St. Marys, near Lock 13, and walked north along the tow path (where mules pulled the canal boats) to the 40 acre pond. This is a relaxing scenic walk where wildlife can be quietly observed along the way. Lilypads with blooming flowers can be seen floating in the northeastern part of the pond.

Perfect place to park for a walk on the canal tow path. If you go north, the tow path is stoned for about 2 3/4 miles, making it a good choice if you want to keep your feet dry on a wet morning. The reconstructed lock, bloody bridge, and the aqueduct are all within 4 miles or so to the north.

If you have to be in St Marys make sure you see this natural beauty. Walk the tow path and enjoy the peace and wildlife
