I recently had the pleasure of visiting Coffee Grinder, a quaint little coffee shop tucked away in the historic Perry Mill, now part of the Newport Bay Club & Hotel. The building itself, dating back to 1835, adds an extra layer of charm to the whole experience.

From the moment you walk in, you're greeted with the rich aroma of freshly brewed coffee that instantly makes you feel at home. The interior is cozy and inviting, perfectly complementing the historic ambiance of the building.

But what truly stole the show for me was their Vanilla Chai Latte. It was nothing short of amazing—perfectly balanced flavors, not too sweet, and just the right amount of spice. It was the kind of drink that warms your soul, especially on a chilly Newport day.

The location is another highlight. Situated so close to the wharf, it's the perfect spot to enjoy a cup of coffee while taking in the scenic views of the harbor. Whether you're a local or just passing through, Coffee Grinder offers a unique blend of history, comfort, and exceptional beverages.

We were visiting Newport for a short getaway, wandering near the waterfront. It was chilly out, so we wanted a warm drink and a snack. We happened upon Alyssa's place, and were so happy we found it!
We're self-confessed "coffee snobs", and this was GOOD coffee! She took the time to ask us exactly how we wanted our cappuccinos, and we chatted for a while as we ate our pastries.
Great atmosphere, delicious coffee, warm and friendly owner. Definitely stop in for a great coffee and true hospitality!

We stumbled in here earlier today just looking for a quick caffeine fix and it didn’t disappoint. The smores lattes were delicious and my daughter declared the home made cinnamon roll the best she’s ever had, and she’s a tough critic. The owner was amazing and we chatted with her the whole time we were there, felt like we’d known her forever. We’ll be making this a regular stop for us when we’re in town.

Have never left a google review before. But have to for Alyssa! Was just in Newport for the first time visiting yesterday and had the pleasure of speaking with her some time. Such an amazing and polite human that clearly cares about getting to know her customers and also clearly is passionate about her coffee shop. It was awesome getting to know you, thanks for spreading kindness and great coffee! Next time I'm in Newport I'll be back!

Lattes were wonderful. The bean is from Italy and you can instantly tell it’s a good bean when you take a sip. Next time Will try espresso to really get the flavor. The owner is welcoming with great personality! Tomorrow morning we will tru the pastries that she makes herself.

The reviews are right, it is over priced. But the owner is so nice, hospitable, and makes ALL the baked goods herself. She even had a shammy available to wipe down our chairs for us! I’d much rather spend an extra $3 and support her, rather than give the money to Starbucks. If you go during fall the pumpkin chai tea latte won’t disappoint!

MUST TRY in Newport! I have never met a nicer store owner than this place. She took the time to tell me the history of the store, the featured banana bread, and their unique banana chocolate latte! If you come here, definitely go for the signature banana chocolate latte, unlike anything I’ve had before and absolutely delicious! Wish I lived closer, I would be here everyday!

Alyssa was just as amazing as the coffee! I bought the iced white chocolate mocha and fell in love with it. If I lived nearby, I would but one everyday. And the prices are very affordable for great coffee.

Stopped in this morning for coffee, cute little waterside coffee shop. Barista was very helpful and friendly, coffee tasted great. Ordered an iced white chocolate mocha and a latte with almond milk. Would definitely return!

Great little place tucked away. Managed to get a coffee without waiting 20-30 minutes like everywhere else on a Saturday morning. Yes prices are not cheap, but I also value my time. Seemed like they were pretty on par with other coffee shops around for the most part. You’re in Newport. Coffee was solid and the pastry was great. Loved the interior of the place and plenty of room to sit and enjoy the coffee. The best part was the owner who was so pleasant even while being busy. Highly recommend if you are willing to maybe pay a little more for good coffee without having to wait a long time.

My fiance recommended this coffee shop not just from the great location but the coffee and the conversations he shared with the owner. We are big into 'mom and pop' shops and this mom is fierce. I wish I could bottle up even a fraction of her work ethic for myself. We've enjoyed a few different coffees and the warmest hot chocolate during the winter months. Will be dragging friends and family to this hidden gem down the wharf. Her hours never disappoint.

A small and extremely costly with a warm home like feeling coffee shop. Great coffee quality. The owner fiscally work at the place and make all the pastries. Support and spread the love y'all.

Don't miss this stop when you visit. A must for coffee lovers. Great location by the water. Excellent selection. It's always a plus when you can enjoy a nice conversation with the owner of a business. I realize that's not possible in season but it was a nice "perk" and she's a gem and a hard worker. Be sure to visit when you're in town.

The very best coffee shop in Newport. We've been going there ever since she opened on Bannister's Wharf. The old location has the view but the new one has the soul, and sitting outside with tables is actually pretty nice.

It's a nice place to get a cup of coffee and homemade pastries. Places to sit in and outside. It's really close to the harbor, so you can take it to go and sit near the water.

We spent 5 days in RI and this was by far the best coffee of the trip! I also had banana bread, which the cashier said was featured on Food Network. A must stop in Newport.
