Cafe Europa is a diamond in the rough. Our meal there will give us special memories for months to come. The whole experience - from exceptional service, classy ambiance, and phenomenal food - left us in awe. The menu combines French, Italian and other international influences. We shared a starter and two mains, as well as a dessert each. Perfect for a special occasion, date night, or just because. Will absolutely go back.

Had a nice quit dinner here last night. The atmosphere was cozy.the service was amazing. The food was very upscale and gourmet. I would suggest a dress or a collared shirt as I felt a bit under dressed in shorts and a button up shirt. The price was somewhat more reasonable than one would expect for a dinner of this caliber. There is quite a bit of art on display throughout the restaurant which really enhances the experience. For this reason I would say the atmosphere is what I enjoyed most about this hidden little gem nestled behind an understated facade in downtown Portsmouth.

I visited Portsmouth Virginia the weekend of Valentine's Day 2020 and my fiancé made reservations for us there. The food is just phenomenal! I want to make sure I get reservations for the first weekend in December for my birthday! Love the atmosphere food and signature drinks.

Fine dining at it's best. Very lovely and sophisticated ambiance. The staff were very welcoming and very attentive. Each course was mouth watering. Cafe Europa is a must, if your in the Norfolk area and looking for a delicious meal.

Anniversary dinner at a place we've been wanting to go. Definitely a special occasion place. The veal marsala was most excellent.

This place is fabulous. Beautiful decor with old world charm, friendly and professional service, and excellent food. Our group tried 4 different entrees that were all delicious. Save room for dessert because there is an extensive selection all made in house!

What a delightful new find! A wonderful experience shared with friends in a cozy small room quiet enough for conversation. The atmosphere gives a feeling of being on vacation in a place far from Virginia. The food was excellent, never hurried, wait staff attentive and helpful. Desserts….see for yourself. We wıll return and lıve an hour away! Delıghtful evenıng.

I have been there several times and they make every patron feel special. The food is amazing and the list of desserts is impressive. Plan on getting dessert!

First visit and I was really impressed. Wonderful old style ambiance with dark wood paneling, soft lighting, crisp white tablecloths. Very attentive and knowledgeable service. The food was outstanding but I can't even tell you what I had because it wasn't on the menu and it wasn't one of the specials. I was having a hard time deciding and J.P. described a pork dish that he said the chef could prepare and I went for it. Really good. My wife had a shrimp dish that she described as "excellent". The desserts, homemade by the chef/owner's wife, were fabulous. Mine was a chocolate cherry torte with cherry ice cream on top. I wanted to lick the plates of both my entree and dessert. We almost never get dessert but the meal and the wine were so good we wanted to keep it going and we were glad we did. The owner/dessert maker was also a very warm and engaging hostess.

This is a wonderful place with an awesome staff that serves exceptional food.

My husband and I went for put anniversary and we had the most wonderful time! The staff was so friendly and made us feel right at home. Not to mention that the food was top notch just completely Devine. 10/10 would absolutely go again.

Came for coffee and dessert. Great interesting choices and mine was awesome. The bad reviews on here are more from the cafe Europa in North Carolina. That place, the service was inattentive and had to flag down for water refills. These two are completely different in style of dining.

Once again, a phenomenal experience. We have been planning to dine here for a month and more. As always, the staff were warm and welcoming, attentive without being intrusive, which is a delicate balance to strike. The food was a delight to all the senses, clearly prepared by a chef who, in addition to his expressive and subtle skills, has a great love of, and pride in, his craft. All in all the sense of classic Old World ambiance, refinement and culture shines through.

My friend Danielle put together a girls night for some friends and I. We ate at Cafe Europa for dinner during Portsmouth Restaurant Week and it was incredible. Excellent service, delicious food, beautifully set table. Everything was just outstanding!

I had looked at reviews prior to going and l kept reading about how good the desserts were and I am happy to say they definitely did not disappoint!!

We only had dessert and drinks but they were all phenomenal! We are new to the area and will definitely be back for a full meal. Service was Attentive and extremely friendly. This place needs more hype!

Wonderfully marvelous foods prepared to order, so be prepared to wait for your food to be served. The wait staff were attentive and responsive to our every request. The food is pricey. The place for a special occasion when the price for a night out is not a consideration. All that and you should not be disappointed by the food or service.

Cozy supper club feel with delicious appetizers and entrees. The polenta and mushroom cream was the winner of the appetizers. The veal was tender in a delicate and perfectly seasoned breading. The scallops were buttery with a surprising peppercorn cream sauce. Now the desserts! The desserts were fantastic and an abundance of amazing combinations. Personal fav was the mint chocolate. But many ranked the unexpected gingerbread cake with pecan praline as their top. Really incredible and thoughtful creations. The restaurant is run by a beautiful husband and wife with loyal employees. Very much a "family" team. Certainly a top place to eat and relax in Portsmouth.

My family has been coming here for 15 or 20 years. The food is really good and worth the price. The lamb chops were amazing. Dessert is a must!!! I was literally licking my plate. It is perfect for date night or even bigger groups. We also celebrated my moms 50th birthday here. The staff and owner are very helpful and provide a great eating experience.

The best French restaurant in Hampton Roads. It is family owned, great service and the food is definitely worth the trip. The desserts are out of this world and they always have a huge selection. We bring all our visitors and love to go for special occasions.
