Thank you Hampton University Museum for a splended Tour throughout your Museum...

We really enjoyed the Tourist attractions Museum and William R. & Norma Harvey Library of "Reading is fundamental, "Knowledge is Power...

Also the outdorsey monuments and art Exibits including the "Emancipation of Proclamation" Oak Tree and the wonderful tours of African American Heritage for "Black History Month.

Our visit was rite on time to catch your Tour Guide touring with military members of the Coast Guard.
Your Guide was great and very informative with excellent presentation of Historical Hampton University's history of inspiring motivational speakers, educators and students, residing at Hampton University.

And the exquisite art, vintage paintings, Exibits, and monuments of indigenous natives, American Indian, African, Asian and European culturel arts.
Memorabilia of Union military regiment and storytelling of spiritual leaders of encouraging people whom are the strength and backbone of this Historical University...

We rated your Campus 5 star🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟
Because of your abundance amount of African American History dating back to '1855 and the innovative infustructuring upgrades coming soon to enhance and beautify your lovely Hampton University...

Thanks again Hampton University, will be back real soon! 😆

The museum has a really amazing collection of pieces from across sub-Saharan Africa, and an interesting collection from mostly Plains tribes. The African collection in particular is fascinating since it seems to be drawn from materials that were donated by their original owners, which is good considering how many African artifacts were taken/stolen/pillaged in the 19th and 20th century. In addition there are new gallery spaces with African+American artists, while the Museum won't take too long it is definitely worth a visit.

The museum requires that guests present a valid government I.D., Covid-19 vaccination card and be subject to a temperature check prior to entry. No photography is allowed inside the galleries of the museum. The museum features great collections of art stemming from the university's inception and encompasses all the history entailed in each and every piece of work exhibited.

This museum is a gem!!! I love visiting the galleries, particularly the Native American and African exhibits! If you are ever in Hampton take the time to visit this museum. The grounds of Hampton University are also a must see when you visit. Fall is a particularly beautiful time on this campus.

A beautiful campus. The museum is first rate. The collection of art is varied and vibrant. A very unique experience you can't miss if you are in the area. I didn't even realize what Hampton University really was, we were just scouting with a rental car where to anchor our boat next, and once I realized the History of the college I had to go to to museum! Just a great day, one of many on our journey to sail Dragon's Lair from Florida to Wisconsin.

I loved visiting the African American Museum while I was stationed at Langley. I learned a lot of new information and saw many amazing pieces of artwork and historical pieces from decades before me. It was great to see & I'll miss it.

It's a wonderful museum with many pieces nicer than what I have seen in other larger museums. Many African and Dakota Indian artifacts and modern art pieces. There are also mixed media works of art from Alumni and staff of HU that are beautiful. The museum is located at the former library on campus. Sorry no photography or video recording allowed.

The museum is the oldest African American museum in the U.S & one of the oldest in Va. Located in the Huntington Building located on the grounds of Hampton University. The museum was founded in 1868. Over 9,000 objects not just African American art, Native American, and Asian art. Open Monday through Friday 8am to 5pm. Sat 12 to 4. Best part is admission is free. It's a hidden jewel. Walking in takes your breath away and to be honest I cried it that beautiful. It is a must see for visitors and if you live in Hampton Roads you have to take time and visit. There is a calendar of events lectures, workshops and if you have children the Children's Curiosity Room is a great place to introduce young ones to the world of art. If you home school this is the perfect field trip. They also hv guided tours for Senior citizens so if you plan activities for Senior citizens I think they will enjoy this and you can schedule a guided tour. Have nothing to do? Looking for something new to do on the weekends or your day off? Out of town visitors ? I think you will enjoy this. So go uncover this hidden jewel.

This museum clearly selects its exhibits and works thoughtfully. The works were compelling and interesting. I learned a lot from the well-written descriptions. I can't remember the last time I felt so exhausted from reading and admiring art and artifacts. Thank you for a wonderful experience!

Beautifully done, so much charm. Take care if you have little hands in-tow. Many of the exhibits are open air but labeled as "Do not touch."
