We try to stop by a local yarn shop whenever we travel. There's a whole lot of yarn made and or dyed in North Carolina on offer - buy local right?

If you live in the area, you'll be encouraged to know there was a lovely knitting group gathered while we were shopping. If you're looking for a friendly, inclusive place to be a yarn nerd, consider this a safe space to be yourself.

I loved this LYS! This was my first visit and I wished I lived closer to be able to come more often. The shop has so many classic and workhorse yarns like Malabrigo, Berrocco, and Noro, but they also have many local dyers and local yarn, all labeled so you can easily sample the area’s fiber. But ALSO they dye their own yarns in the most spectacular colorways, and they have lots of samples and swatches of that yarn so you can see what it will look like once knitted up. There are bags hand-sewn by the shop owner in so many fun prints, very reasonably priced, and they have so many kits for all kinda of projects. Also, lots of pins, notions, books and magazines. The shop has plenty of parking and a very friendly, welcoming vibe—I didn’t feel any pressure to buy but I felt very welcomed and free to browse. This is a must-visit LYS if you are in Asheville!

Purl’s Yarn Emporium has an amazing selection full of unique, colorful yarns. While the yarns are pricey, the quality makes it worth the investment. I would definitely recommend!

Thrilled to be in a truly open and affirming crafting space. From seeing BIPOC dyed and sourced yarns, to being able to drop into the craft circle and connect with fellow LGBTQIA+ crafters, and of course great knowledge and encouragement from the owners, this was truly a great experience. Plus, I love the logo and totally should have grabbed a T-shirt.

Wonderful selection of unique yarns and fun bags! The kits were awesome as well and one of a kind! They even have yarn that was dyed by the staff in the store! Staff was very nice and was excited to talk to us about the yarn and sets we selected!

My daughter and I went on our own personal yarn crawl last week from Jacksonville, FL to western NC and Purl’s was definitely on our list of yarn shops to visit! Elizabeth was great, and so helpful for project ideas and yarn suggestions. I was very impressed with Rick’s hand dyed yarns, and picked up several skeins of it, including one of his sock yarns with SPARKLE! Can’t wait to knit up some socks with it! Thank you again for a fantastic shopping experience! 💕

I had recently gotten the excitement to learn how to crochet and have seen this shop so many times since I live around the corner. When I walked in I was greeted and the woman walked me through the store showing me several recommendations for a beginner. The shop was so pleasant and got to see the class they host on Saturdays. Definitely only shopping here for all my future yarn and hook needs as they have a WIDE variety along with tutorial books :) Super glad to have a spot nearby with friendly people :)

Best local yarn store ever. Great selection of excellent quality yarns. Jaw-droppingly creative double-knit patterns (try the Escher Metamorphosis scarf), and patient expert support to help you with any project.

We were enticed by the beautiful display windows and we were not disappointed! This place has an amazing selection of local and dyed yarns as well as fun buttons, tools, and accessories. I believe she was the owner, but the woman working at the store was so kind, knowledgeable and friendly. You could tell from the way she spoke that she was passionate about her work and craft — really an art if you saw some of the knitted pieces in there — and she seemed happy to talk to us and answer all our questions (we don’t know much about knitting but were super curious). Thanks for a great experience!

I've been in several times, often with my service dog, and Elizabeth and Rick are both so kind, helpful and welcoming. My service dog and I are still polishing her manners in public settings (mostly not whining/attention seeking), and everyone who comes to the Wednesday Stitch group has been so chill and understanding. Elizabeth has been particularly great at letting me know if another dog is coming in, as well as giving people a heads up that we're hanging out in the back and to please just ignore the dog; This is never something I expect, but it definitly helps me feel like I can let down my guard a bit and I really appreciate it. Elizabeth and Rick so clearly work to be good allies to marginized people in general, not just with symbols and vocal support, but also with their actions.

On top of all that their yarn shop is cozy and their selection is awesome. What more could you want?

What a great yarn shop❤ Nice big shop with lots of variety of yarn and a wall of my favorite, NORO!!! Nice bags, pins and other knitting treasures that all knitters and crocheters love. Large inviting couch and a dye room! Found some yarn that I have been searching for and a yarn pin. I will be back😍

I never seem to bring enough yarn on vacations, so I took an hour or so to browse around in here while the rest of my party was off exploring. The owner (I think) was extremely knowledgeable and friendly, and was happy to chat with me while I looked around. I left with a few skeins of yarn that I'm very excited about, as well as a copy of a pattern I liked and a little pin to put on my bag. I'll definitely be coming back when I return to Asheville. I understand there are a few other places to buy yarn in the area, but I'm glad I picked this one!

What a neat place. There are dozens of yarns to choose from as well as kits and various hooks, needles, and other supplies. The standout feature of this store is definitely the ownership! You will feel welcome and appreciated here!

The people working were very kind and helpful. I never asked their name (social anxiety, sorry) but the person who helped me out told me all kinds of useful things about cabling because I was looking for tools to cable for the first time, and they were very kind and friendly. They also make their own Doctor Who themed sock yarn that is gorgeous, and they have all sorts of geeky yarn that is beautiful as well!

Visiting from out of town and delighted by Purl's. They have an array of local yarn, dyed by the shop. Very happy with purchases and staff was kind. Can't wait to get the yarns working to see the finished product.

Great selection of locally dyed yarns. The owner is very pleasant and her husband does some of the dying. Comfy area to sit and knit a while. Nice selection of needles and notions. Great selection of sock yarns.

Decently priced for quality yarn: I paid less than the average price via online retailers for Malabrigo and Berocco yarns at this store. Super helpful staff who were delightfully personable and suggested a few places in Asheville to take my rowdy children. 😁

A very “warm” and welcoming place. My mom knits, and is supposed to be knitting me a scarf with the colors of my Alma Mater. Except she misplaced / lost the yarn. I found reasonably priced yarn with the colors I needed. The shop keeper helped by providing the information of how much yarn for a simple alternating patch scarf. I also inquired about their own multi colored yarn “kits” as there were some other things I was interested in getting in the future. I’ve walked by in the late evenings, but finally had a chance to stop in today.
