United Beach Vacations

I had rented from United Beach Vacations/Seacoast Rentals several times and had good experiences. However this past year, I rented the same place I had the previous year (619-A Sandstep). It was pet friendly and had access to a pool. When we arrived this year, it was dirty. The bathmats were wet and full of sand, the living room floor was heavily damaged, the area rugs were filthy and needed replacing. The rug in the living room was curled up on one end and was a tripping hazard. That was not the worst thing.
Shortly after arriving, we went out of the balcony and the dog accompanied us. What we didn't notice was a slat was missing from the balcony. The dog saw another dog across the street and began to bark at it. When he did, he slipped through the slat in the balcony and fell about 12 feet to the concrete below. He broke his paw and had to be carried to the emergency vet immediately. I called the rental agency and said that could have been a toddler. They never responded to this. I asked them to help me cover a $647 vet bill and they never responded to that either. I will never deal with this group again and encourage anyone who is considering a summer rental to avoid this group like the plague.
I believe they knew the slat was out or at least the owner did because the broken slat had been painted over. This we noticed after the accident. The upshot was that the dog had to be carried up and down the stairs every time he went out. The incident ruined our vacation and the dog had to have part of his paw amputated when we returned home.
