Rudra Indian Bistro

The service at this restaurant was great! We visited on a weekday night and easily found a parking spot right outside. When we walked in, we were given the option to choose our own table and the staff kindly dimmed the bright lights for a more comfortable atmosphere. Although only two visible workers on duty, they were incredibly kind and patient, despite our longer waiting time for food. Here are some examples of their exceptional service:
- Our waiter waited patiently while we took our time to order and even explained the menu to us since we were not familiar with Indian cuisine.
- When my dad accidentally spilled water on the floor, a waiter immediately came to clean it up.
- The staff checked on us regularly and provided us with clean dishes and utensils after each course/meal.

(Also there was a free refill for the rice)

Overall, we had a great experience at this restaurant and would definitely recommend it to others.

I don’t do a lot of reviews, so this should show you just how much I love this place. In fact, I reviewed this place back in 2019, but I don’t see it anymore, so now I’m reviewing this twice because of how great it is.

I have been coming here approximately once a week (sometimes twice!) since 2019 when I moved to North Jersey. This is the absolute best North Indian food in North Jersey and I would argue the entire NYC area, including Iselin/Edison.

I have eaten in the restaurant a handful of times, but 99% of the time, I’m doing takeout. The few times I’ve eaten there, service has been amazing.

Food is a good portion size, flavors are excellent, price is reasonable, and there’s no stupid credit card fees. I’m veg, so I’ve tried almost all of their veg offerings and I haven’t had a single bad dish.

My family lives in South Jersey and I’ve dragged them all the way up here (passing Oak Tree Road, ignoring my dad’s complaints about the distance) because of how good it is.

I’ve ordered from here so much that I’ve gotten to know the owner and staff of the restaurant pretty well. They’re all good people.

I highly, highly recommend coming here for North Indian.

This is my go to spot when I want authentic Indian food! The food is exceptional, fresh and also delicious. I was there tonight and brought my daughter this time. It never disappoints. Food is at the right temperature and brought out without any delays. Staff is always polite and willing to please for a delightful dining experience. The atmosphere is very inviting and welcoming. I only wish I lived closer so I can go more then just a few times a month.
You won’t be disappointed bring your appetite.

I came here with my dad who is a very picky eater but the food is amazing. Great flavor, the environment is perfect very cozy and intimate. Best Indian food in the area! We got the Chicken Tika Masala, Saag Paneer, Garlic Nann, Latcha Paratha, and the Chicken Korma. All superb and we are definitely coming back here

Amazing food and service! Everything we ordered was great! Place itself is super cozy, clean and comfortable. Owner is an amazing person and truly cares about his customers. Highly recommend this place if you want some authentic Indian Food.

I was looking for a place to host my baby dedication lunch and I came across this restaurant and decided to call in and It was the best decision I ever made . I must say first off the owner Mr. Vinay is very professional, humble and have a great personality. His rates were affordable and within my budget . He even had staff that helped me out throughout my event. He set up everything.

I highly recommend this place for small events.

Everything about this place is amazing! The food was so good and flavorful! Best chicken tikka masala I ever had! The waiter was friendly the atmosphere was great seemed very authentic! Definitely will be making this a regular spot when I come to visit! Definitely recommend!

First time trying Indian food, and it was delicious. We got the butter chicken and chicken tikka masala, with cheese nan and garlic nan. We got our food mild, but if you like spice, I suggest getting the dishes medium spice. Overall, great experience.

We found Rudra through google search and boy I don’t know where to begin! From the entrance to the inside decor and wonderful smile that approached us from a young lady that sat us right away, it was the perfect place! We had not had the food yet but knew we had found a gem!! There are not many delicious Indian restaurants in the area so we were eager to try the food. Ordered a variety of meals and I can’t express it enough to say that it was delicious with amazing aromas and taste!! Even the Mango lassi and Masala Chai were right on point!! I recommend this place and we will be returning soon. The price was just right for our group of 4. We all loved the food, ambience and attention the young lady provided.🙏

Amazing food, it was so savory. Would definitely come back. For the price you pay you get a lot in my opinion. The restaurant itself is also well decorated. The vibe is amazing as well.

Rudra is great because it nails the simple things. I've come here in groups and by myself and I always leave pleasantly surprised how good the food is and the price I paid for it. I highly recommend the weekday lunch specials and I've yet to have a dish that didn't go right and I've tried more than half the menu so far. I love the naan and basmati rice here. All the dishes come with ample sauce and flavor. I prefer spicy dishes and this place does a great job with providing flavorful heat.

Found this little gem and we're so thrilled. Its located on a main street where you can find street parking. Once you walk in, table settings are done perfectly and the decor is enough to still give a modern yet traditional feel to the restaurant. We had the cauliflower ginger soup which was amazing, tried the chilli shrimp good too and ordered the Chicken Tikka Masala which was incredibly delicious. Naam was crispy on the outside super soft inside and it went perfectly with the chicken and basmati rice, I had left over sauce and took it to go lol couldn't let that go to waste. Highly recommended but when you do go give yourself time, they do take their time to make everything fresh and from scratch. Service was also impeccable, cant wait to go back.

We, a group of three, visited this charming spot late in the evening around 8:00 PM on a weekday. Nestled in a quiet location, it offers a relaxed atmosphere. It's BYOB, so be sure to bring your drinks along; however, if you forget, there's a liquor store just a 7-minute walk away. The staff didn't rush us to place our orders; instead, they took their time, allowing us to unwind and chat leisurely. Our hostess, Yogita, provided excellent service, informing us of the wait time for our appetizers and offering fantastic suggestions for our meal. Every dish we ordered was delightful, and we savored every bite. Without hesitation, I can proclaim this as one of the finest Indian restaurants in NJ—a true hidden gem that comes highly recommended. [Btw, I noticed a puddle of water near the entrance that hopefully they'll address soon, but it didn't detract much from my experience. The excellent service and delicious food more than made up for any minor flaws here and there]

Delicious, authentic Indian food. My boyfriend and I were so surprised to find this hole in the wall restaurant! I live in town and I was so surprised to find a great Indian spot nearby. The staff are very friendly and service is excellent.
The setting is intimate and quiet. Lots of street parking in front and across the street. It's also BYOB so don't forget to bring some booze to pair with your meal.
The food was absolutely delicious. We tried the cauliflower appetizer recommended by the owner, it was very good and had the perfect amount of spice.
As our entrees my boyfriend ordered the Chicken Makhani and I got the Malai Kofta. They came with rice and we also got some garlic naan. I'm getting hungry again as I'm writing this. All in all, everything was perfect and it really exceeded our expectations. We got to take home some leftovers.
We can't wait to come back!

I have eaten Indian food all over the world, including in India, and this is the best lamb sag I have ever eaten! My husband got several appetizers and he, too, was amazed at how delicious everything was. Oh, and save room for the mango kheer! Fantastic! I would give more than five stars if I could!

7/8/21 - Food is amazing!

Hubby ordered Lamb Vindaloo. I always try the lamb or goat he orders but usually I don't like them. The lamb was so good. I ate several pieces hehe.

I ordered the Octopus Masala, this is the 1st time we've ever seen Octopus on the menu in an Indian restaurant.

The Garlic Naan had minced garlic which was wonderful, usually its like a garlic oil brushed on the naan.

Mango Coconut Rice was interesting. We've had coconut rice but the added Mango was interesting.

Will definitely go back to try other items.

Update 9/6/22
We came back and had:

Shrimp & Crab Meat - cooked in a silky tomato sauce, served on a bed of garlic bread - this was so good I could have had this as an entrée!

Chicken Tikka Saag - I didn't understand the added "Tikka" in the dish name until I got my order, the saag sauce is put over Tikka chicken. This was ok but I prefer the chicken cooked in the saag.

Mixed Grill Platter - Shrimp, Chicken Tikka, Chicken Seekh & Lamb Seekh - hubby loved it, it was ok for me, lamb was too gamey...

Coconut Mango Rice - hubby loved it with his platter, but I don't never liked coconut slivers so this was a pass for me.

Garlic Naan is always on point at Rudra :D

Found a real gem here! We have had Indian food all over Bergen County and this is by far the best! They give big portions so be prepared to take some great food home and they are very reasonably priced! You will love this byob place!
