The Inn on Gitche Gumee

Great location along the scenic lake drive. It feels secluded while only being a few minutes from Duluth and a beautiful drive from here up the north shore. We enjoyed the local coffee and having the kitchenette to make a couple of simple meals. Comfortable bed, nice carpet- very clean and comfortable room with great view of the lake! We enjoyed our stay here!

I loved every bit of this experience --the attentiveness of the owners starting the day I made the reservation, the drive to the Inn, the deer that crossed my path as I parked behind the Inn, exploring the suite (Great Lakes Suite), the time I spent eating and working at the table by the window looking out on Lake Superior. Lovely! The care taken to get the room ready for me was obvious. It's a somewhat rustic space (cabin-like) but very clean, with linens and towels that seemed new, and a curated and charming decor. I felt like a guest in the home of a friend who wanted me to feel welcome and comfortable.

A very nice stay. Unique homemade bed built from birch. Peaceful location. Breakfast was good. Host was pleasant. I would say it is comparable to a 3+ level hotel and fairly reasonably priced. I would recommend staying just for the experience.

I love this place. I've stayed here three times over the course of 11 years. Fantastic experience with the original owners and just as good of a report for the new ones. The charm, history, views, and overall comfort of this property is exactly what I crave when I visit Duluth. I've stayed at Three Bears, the Wolves Den and the Hideaway. Excited to see what some of the new renovations will have in store for our next visit!

I attended a winter writing retreat hosted at The Inn on Gitche Gumee, and it was a dream! The room was comfortable and included lots of nice amenities like local coffee. I loved reading by the gas fireplace. The view of the lake was stunning!

We took a family trip to see the lights at Bentlyville. We stayed at in the 3 bears cabin. It was amazing! The cabin was so lovely! The woodwork was beautiful! It has a full kitchen, fireplace, 2 bedrooms, 1 bathroom with shower, and a whirlpool. The view was amazing!!! The new owners stopped by and are so wonderful! Will be coming to stay again next time we are there!!

We came to celebrate our wedding anniversary-so blessed to be able to enjoy the beautiful views of Lake Superior. It rained off and on during our stay, but did not dampen our time. The first day there we were greeted with a double rainbow, right on the lake close to our room. For us it represented evidence of God's love and faithfulness through out "40" years of marriage. Stayed in the Dream Catcher suite, the view out three windows was awesome. The bed was comfy and we loved having the fireplace on a chilly night. We visited some our favorite spots along the lake including Gooseberry falls. Top the day off with a delicious beef pastie from Betty's Pies Restaurant and a piece of pie ala mode. Recommend the Great lakes Crunch! We were greeted by the new owner Reilly, when we first arrived, throughout our stay he was there to make sure we were accommodated. He is an amazing host and sure to make your visit at Gitche Gumee as enjoyable as the scenery! Also loved his heart and vision he has to bring the hotel to a new level, we hope to get back sometime next year to see what he accomplishes !

We enjoyed our stay in the Okabena Suite. Reilly was very friendly and made us feel at home. They are in process of updating the rooms at the Inn. The updates so far are very nice. All rooms have a great view of Lake Superior. We look forward to our next visit at the Inn on Gitche Gumee!

My wife and I stayed for our honeymoon here. The room was beautiful and quirky. We checked in one week after the inn was purchased by new owners who are a wonderful couple just like the previous owners. They did a wonderful job making our stay pleasant and even gifted us a bottle of champagne for us to celebrate. The view out of the loon's nest is amazing. We will definitely be coming back to celebrate our anniversary in years to come.

My husband and I stayed in the Hideaway and could not have been more pleased. We loved the rustic decor, and the jacuzzi tub was just what we needed after a long day of hiking. The location of the Inn was perfect and was incredibly peaceful. The new owners were more than accommodating and were very easy to work with. We are excited to see what new things they have in store for the Inn. We will definitely be coming back!

The Inn on Scenic Hwy. 61 on the Lake Superior Northshore is a true gem.
Owners Reilly and Brittany were very thoughtful and accommodating. Thanks for the beautiful fresh flowers in our room! The nicely manicured landscape abounds with beautiful annuals and perennials. There is plenty of space to sit and enjoy the beauty of the lake.
Location is great! You are close to Duluth and only 20 minutes from Two Harbors.

Just had another nice stay at The Inn on Gitche Gumee! We love this place and it has become our go to place to stay on Lake Superior. Each room is unique with great views of the lake and outdoor decks to enjoy, all on lovely grounds full of perennials. The rooms are immaculately clean and hosts Reilly and Britney are super friendly and helpful! We're looking forward to coming back!

Fantastic place to stay! Cute and cozy with a beautiful view. It's the perfect distance from Duluth to be out of town while still easily enjoying everything Duluth has to offer. My wife and I look forward to coming back 😀

Awesome new owners , kind and caring . They go the extra mile to make sure everything is great for your stay . Highly recommend , we stayed in the wolf lodge , cutest ever and a fireplace too!

The Inn on Gitchee Gumee is in a wonderful location. We have stayed there before.
The rooms are decorated differently. They are very comfortable.
We are excited to meet the new owners. They are very enthusiastic about upgrading the Inn.
We will be back next year to sse the changes.

Super nice location. Just 15-20 minutes from downtown Duluth off of the Scenic Highway, basically in between Two Harbors & Duluth, making it super easy to jump on the highway and spend a day sightseeing, in either direction. Julie and Butch, the owners, are the nicest people around. They take care of the cabins like they are their own homes. One of the days Butch makes a breakfast for all in the cabin and is an excellent cook! This has been our 2nd time up and look forward to coming back again!

The new owners Reilly and Britany Brennan are so accommodating and approachable. They are surely going to carry on the legacy Butch and Julie created 36 years ago. Reilly and Britany are dedicated to cleanliness, and were available to answer any questions we had during our 4 nights in the 3 Bears Cabin. They suggested new restaurants, hikes, sights, and were open to improvements and suggestions for the Inn. They were welcoming to our two dogs, and the cabin was perfect as always. If you are a legacy guest and worried about new ownership, don't give it another thought! You’ll be in great hands!

I had a wonderful conversation with the owner on the phone when I reached out with some questions I had about reservations. Although they were booked up he was immensely helpful, courteous, and productive in helping me plan my weekend getaway. I hope to stay with them in the future and support their business!

My family and I stayed in the Great Lake Suite for 3 nights. I was a great choice. We enjoyed the great views of Lake Superior. The Inn is close to downtown Duluth but far enough away to enjoy nature. Butch and Julie are very welcoming. Butch even made sure we had breakfast to-go on our last day.
