Grand Mango Caribbean Restaurant

This restaurant food is excellent always.. I was stressed the period they were closed because I couldn't find good food around the area other than this restaurant. So I give them 5 stars

On the other hand I love their curry chicken but noticed many times that the chicken is not well cooked.. the meat is red/blood when you bite in.. the reason for this is because the chicken is cut in big pieces.. if they make smaller cuts of the chicken it will be well cooked . Cut the chicken smaller so it can cook right through. ✅

It's not very often that I see a Caribbean restaurant outside of the greater New York City areas, and especially not 'upstate'. So I was pleasantly surprised to see the Grand Mango in Central Valley, just a few miles away from my fiancé's home. I discovered Caribbean food a few years ago, and I was so glad that I did! This, is soul food at its finest, and Grand Mango did not disappoint!
Walking from the car to the stores entrance, I could literally smell the Jerked Chicken sizzling away out back on a Bar-B-Que Smoker, and I was itxhing to dig in.
They had Oxtails, which I had to have, and rice with peas, which is another staple. I asked if they had sweet cabbage and plantains and the kid behind the counter looked at me and smiled and said, 'Oh, so you know then?' - My man... oh I know!
For my fiancé, a novice to Caribbean food, I suggested she play it safe. She stuck with the Fried Chicken, Jerked Mac and Cheese, and I suggested the sides of both cabbage and plantains. I also ordered a Beef Pattie.
The food, was fire. Lit. Totally legit. But most importantly, it was utterly delicious, and the price was excellent.
On the weekdays, a small portion 'lunch' meal (which was a very generous small) gets you rice and peas or Mac and Cheese, cabbage and plantain, and the main, with a drink, all for just $10!
The interior is dated, badly - and there is little rhyme or reason to the layout of the place - it's a deli/lunch establishment, but you can't order a sandwich or buy sides for your upcoming picnic. It's... a little strange. The tables and chairs are folding/stackable, there are random posters hung up, and nothing matches. But in all honesty, I'm not bothered by that at all - I'm here to eat and a place like this doesn't need to impress with the layout, it needs to shine with the food - and it does.
If you're acquainted with Caribbean cuisine, this place is legit. If you're looking to experiment, yeah, hit this place up. If you have very high standards for an eating establishment, or if spicy ethnic food isn't your thing, then I could see you passing in this place, but that would be a huge mistake.

Read the google views and had to check this place out. The food is great! Took my whole family and everyone’s plate was empty! I had the jerk chicken. I love how you can get the sauce on the side! I can’t always eat spicy food and this option worked great. Even without the jerk sauce the food was wonderful. My family got oxtail and stew meat. I highly recommended this place. It’s a family business and the family is very friendly! The owner’s son is a sweetheart and the owner herself is very nice! I wish them the best of luck! Keep up the great work! God bless!

Food was amazing. The best curry chicken I ever had to be honest. The food was hot, fresh and flavorful. Definitely recommend!

I don’t usually leave reviews, but I had to with this restaurant. My family and I went to Jamaica a few years ago and absolutely fell in love with Jamaican food, Jerk chicken specifically. Since then, we’ve gone to several Jamaican restaurants in search of food as good as what we had in Jamaica and have yet to find anything close. Well, we had Grand Mango Caribbean’s Jerk Chicken, rice and plantains last night. The food is RIDICULOUSLY good. Just like in Jamaica!! We are so happy to have found this place. I wish I could give more than 5 stars! We are actually going back tonight for more!

If you have not been to Grand Mango Caribbean Restaurant on Smith Clove Road, you have done yourself a disservice. Because of our busy schedules, we do takeout at least twice a week. Grand Mango has become part of our rotation. We will likely increase it more because it is simply one of the more delicious options in the area. The simple store front does not give you any hint of the delicious meal you are about to experience. The owner Nadine (I apologize if I made a mistake with your name) is welcoming & friendly. The oxtail & stewed chicken are must haves. My family & I love oxtail. We order every chance we get. I can honestly say that Grand Mango makes the best version I have ever had. We had it Saturday night & it was so good that I am tempted to make it Sunday dinner too. Do yourself a favor & stop by. You will love the food.

I did not know this place was here. Great tasting food with generous portions and friendly service. Anytime you want authentic Caribbean cuisine, this is your place to visit.

Best jerk chicken I’ve ever had. Better than any of the stuff I’ve had around various areas of NYC for the past 14 years. Whenever I come upstate, this is a must visit for me. Trust the reviews, this place is serious. And don’t expect your food to be ready on time but I promise it’s worth it 😎

Highly recommend this place!!! I normally come for the lunch specials for curry chicken. I’ve also had their curry goat and shrimp. The Mac N cheese is soooo delicious. Sides are plantains, rice and cabbage. I’m so addicted!

Best Caribbean food in all New York. Stumbled upon it as we weee driving through and conveniently ordered online. I believe it’s mom and pop ran establishments which I believe it give it that awesome jerk flavor. Highly recommended ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Very good food and prices. Quite casual. We had lunch meals (fried chicken, jerk chicken, curry) with came with small amount of veggies and plantains and ample portions of rice (only teenage son could finish). My wife had chicken soup with bread. She liked it so much we ordered a large to take home for dinner.

Just found this place tonight. Tucked away off the main road, the best kept secret if you like Caribbean food. YES, I WILL be back. Enjoyed every bit of my meal. Great service as well. I'm a FAN!

Good for a quick bite to eat. Had the whole snapper as well. Not as much vinegar as I would have liked on my onions and peppers, but I didn’t make it and I had a good meal on a Sunday.

Best Jamaican food! Tried every dish. Love them all. Favorites are the chicken soup, oxtail with rice and beans, and the jerk chicken. If you're looking for fancy dining this place is not for you. If you're looking for great tasting authentic Jamaican food then you will love this place.

LOVE the food. Ox tails are delicious!! Jerk chicken and jerk Mac & cheese are my to go items. I can't wait to try more items. Every one is friendly. Can stay to eat there or take it with you. I hope they are here for a long time. A much needed restaurant in the neighborhood! ❤

Authentic Jerk Chicken,. The jerk Mac and cheese is delicious. Everyone is very friendly and service was great. Located where the old Danny's Deli's was in Central Valley, it still has the tired interior of the old deli, but I'm sure they will bring the Island vibes to the decor like they bring the Island taste to their food.

I was driving threw and smelled something good cooking.. took a look around and found this place... got some jerk chicken and rice.. probably 1 of the best peaces of chicken ive ever had.. the rice was cooked perfectly and the plantains with the cabage slaw was great 👍
