Great customer service, you are greeted by every employee. High end pricing on camping, fishing, hunting, biking, hiking, all your outdoor weather gear for every adventure. They carry all the top name brand gear you need for all your adventures in Alaska and beyond. If your a member you get a percent back on all purchases, which is nice if you shop there often, you get a dividend. The selection of sleeping bags is great for the outdoorsy person. The cast iron skillets, Dutch ovens and frying pans are awesome.

This was a great store as always. They had a huge selection of everything you would need but more importantly it is one of the most friendly staffs of any REI store that we’ve been to. I wish every store had a staff like this. It was a pleasure to stop in and shop here for last minute things we needed for our bike ride down the Americas

Huge thank you to Erick, the bike repair dude. He was very helpful, kind, and worked on my bike in a timely manner. The bike feels so much better. Great customer service. Thanks again!

We had to buy a last minute roof bike rack before our road trip through Canada and Erik was incredibly helpful. He looked up all the different models and printed out info on each to share the pros/cons. He helped us secure it to our car as well. So thankful for Erik and all the staff at this REI!

Thanks to the REI Fairbanks Bike Shop to finding my Cop Op DRT 1.1 L!

Overall happy with the bike! Its been twenty years since I’ve ridden a bicycle on trails, so I’m sure I’ll be visiting the shop in the future for work.

If you order online, make sure to give the bike shop a call as I did not and the online system didn’t communicate that the bike was ready for pick up the day I ordered it. I waited a week before calling, thinking that maybe they were busy, but the bike had been ready the whole time!

Lance was super helpful for me and my husband. We bought snowshoes, and poles and he knows his products. He made sure they fit right for each of us. He gave us some ideas where to go snowshoeing and also set us up with Dorian (also very helpful) to give us more ideas. We had been to a different store first, but so glad we went to REI, since Lance was helpful, knowledgeable and friendly. Also, the selection was much better.

Planning a long hike, time for new backpacks--our years-old packs are wrecked. Woman employee Cemper spent 2 HOURS with us, fitted us with several packs each to find just the right fit---and DID! She also educated us on pack fit, alterations, ways to mark and alter pack straps---it was pretty amazing. I've never had a real pack fitting before, and it was a revelation. This store is always good on customer service, but I am 100% impressed with this experience. We left with new packs that truly fit in the size and specs we were searching for. We even brought in 2 of our old packs to compare and contrast---and she had great info on their structure and fiting (or not fitting!) So glad we went to REI and had her expertise!

Went in for a quick look at backpacks and it turned into a deep dive into the different brands and types of backpacks. Garrett the backpack wizard asked me question about what my goals are and recommended different brands and sizes after sizing me. He was very knowledgeable and explained the differences of sizes and types, and set up different backpacks with weight for me to walk around and try. Left with much more knowledge and a new backpack.

My favorite spirting goods store in town. They have a very liberal return policy, you can return items within a year even if you have used them significantly. I think this is so great because something might fit when you try it on but then you use it for a hike and find it’s not what you thought you were getting. The employees are knowledgeable but don’t act like they are better than you, like they do in some other shops. The products are on the higher end because they are meant to last and of good quality but you can find good deals.

I got the first pair of running shoes that I’ve purchased in almost 5 years. I’ve had trouble with my feet, particularly with my big toe, and upon talking to the shoe consultant named Andrew, I had no idea there was a better shoe for my issue. He suggested a different brand I’d never heard of, explained in detail the differences in shoes, was patient while I tried them on to see the difference in how it felt, and all around went the extra mile to make sure I chose the best running shoe for my feet. What an awesome place for all the brands my family and I love for being active! And the checkout clerk was pretty awesome too. Thanks guys! We’ll be back!

Some of the chain stores in town are short on stock and sort of empty feeling, perhaps partly due to covid or perhaps because of the recent big storms that came through — but REI was among the few I ventured into that was pretty well-stocked. Had what I needed and also got a Benchmade Knife as well which I saw the same one a couple days later at Frontier Outfitters here for $80 more. Was sort of surprised that REI had the lower price in town. Staff were all helpful!

REI is dependable. I went into the Fairbanks store looking to get fitted for a backpack and the man who helped us was eager and experienced.

07/04/2018 Update: My wife and I purchased two kayaks here and we were disappointed in the lack of customer service. I asked one of the employees for assistance with installing the Thule roof racks (two racks for the two 'yaks) and he said that he could help us. He then clocked out (end of his shift) and stood by the front door and watched me figure everything out by myself in the parking lot. The products from REI have always been great, but the Fairbanks location needs to improve its hiring standards.

We have made several high-dollar purchases here. They always have what we are looking for in stock, and they have a fantastic staff to help you out. It is an expensive store, but you typically get exactly what you pay for. The dividend is a pretty good kick back off of your purchases as well. It makes it sting a little less when you get that money back each year.

I ran into an employee today named Johnny while needing assistance with what I needed. He showed great customer care, concern, knowledge of items I asked about and patience with my stupidity. While I was being helped I saw the amazing hospitality other employees there were showing as well. Thank you for your hard work Johnny! God bless all of yall!

I’ve shopped there twice in the past month and had great service each time. Their selection for Fairbanks is very good. I didn’t expect to see the same variety of good as in Anchorage. Obviously the store is much smaller, but I was still able to find what I needed. Yes they are a bit expensive, but most REI stores are compared to other options.

Brought my bikes into this ship to get serviced, and Dorian was very friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable. He checked out the bikes, said they only needed a bronze service, and that I didn't need a silver or gold service. Honest employee who does good work and is motivated to help. Any future bike work I will bring back here.

Impressed with ski mounting service. Dorian did a damn good job. I had the freedom inserts installed, which required some custom work. He also caught a non recalled binding defect. Which he was able to work a fix with the manufacturer, even though I had bought the bindings elsewhere. Saved me from a potential headache in the back country. It was the kind of service I would have expected from a small town ski shop. Not a big chain. I'll definitely be back.

I broke a pole on a tent I bought from REI in Minnesota. Brought it here and the gentleman fixed it right up for me on the spot and it hardly costed a thing. This was perfect as I was in the middle of a motorcycle trip and using the tent almost every night. Great service here.
