Starving Artist Cafe

Loved this place. The food was excellent. We were visiting the area, college shopping, and found The Starving Artist online. I read the reviews and figured this was a cute, local cafe to do breakfast at and the reviews were strong. I was pleasantly surprised by how great the food and service were. The food quality was excellent. We had a party of five and every person loved their food. I got the Starving Artist platter (pictured) and it was so good, and filling. The coffee was also surprisingly good. The orange juice was freshly squeezed without additives and tasted so clean and fresh. We liked the cafe so much, we returned the next day for breakfast again. Our waitress was great both days. She didn't write a thing down and got every order correct. The place was busy but we got seated without any wait.

Nice place to stop for breakfast and get a drink. The screw driver is a great order, they use freshly squeezed oranges and its cheap.

That's food is amazing and very customisable.

They also have tons of rotating art for sale.

This was the perfect place to interview a "Starving Artist" for my blog! The food and coffee were delicious! My friend and I stayed long past closing hours talking to the owners. They have a unique story about the Starving Artist Café. I would definitely recommend this place. If you decide to go, ask for the owner's special coffee! 😉

Little places like this make this part of Norfolk so fantastic. I wish there were better parking options, but it's worth the hassle. I got a French scramble with an extra egg. It was positively lovely.

The new owners of Starving Artist Cafe served a combined 29 years of active duty in the Navy. They have chosen to continue serving others through this joint venture. The menu has been elevated and the service overhauled. We have been there when there was a line out the door, when it was slow and for a special event; each time has been fantastic.
To top it all off, this incredible couple offers a military discount. Yes, they will take 10% off their gross income as an additional way to honor those who serve. You just have to mention your military affiliation at checkout. Easy peasy, don’t miss out. Or better yet, don’t ask for a discount and honor their service by paying full price. It’s worth it!

I was looking forward to having some grits. Nonetheless, it was good.

Great little place. It gets busy, so be patient. The owner has their family helping out, which adds to the charm.

Amazing food, great service, good prices! They serve breakfast and lunch all day plus plenty of vegetarian and vegan options so everyone can find something they like. I got the womelet with my choice of 3 fillings (no upcharge for vegan sausage!) and while it was delicious I had plenty to take home as leftovers. Also the decor and music both inside and out were charming. I will be coming back.

Wonderful breakfast food, great, casual atmosphere! The best part? Even though it's not on the menu they have gluten free bread! Guys, I had TOAST! And it was good toast too! Hard to find places that offer gluten free bread so this was a lovely surprise. I had a "womlette" which is an omelette made on a waffle iron. Fantastic! Our waitress was so pleasant and attentive. Can't wait to go back!

Such a great place for brunch!! My husband and I took my parents here on a Sunday morning and it was the perfect atmosphere. Their food is so great and they have a cute little serve-your-own coffee bar with different coffee selections. Even though they were really busy, the service was still fast and attentive. We thoroughly enjoyed our meal here and will definitely be back!

I had their Reuben, which is a modified pastrami (thick cut and giving serious corned beef vibes!) and coleslaw sandwich on a bagel. My wife had the French scramble with a vegetarian modification. My daughter had the blueberry pancakes. The food was great. Very personable service! Very kind, attentive, and timely. The Devil's Backbone lager was fresh too. Coffee was great, and the iced tea was quite nice (though they ran out, sadly!). Our server seemed a bit nervous with us at first (I'm kind of an ugly lug, to be fair.), but took great care of us. Good, young vibe, in a neighborhood experience. Keep it up, team!

The food was delicious and the wait staff was awesome. I had the starving artist burrito with potato salad and it was awesome. My friend had the French toast with strawberry Gelato and I tried some and it slapped. Highly recommend

I was greeted properly as soon as I stepped inside of the cafe and immediately felt welcomed. I had the vegan sausage hash which was absolutely delicious! The service was fast and the cafe was clean! 5 star review thanks!

Customer service is amazing! Food and drinks was amazing. The pineapple and peach mimosa really hits the spot.
Parking isn’t the best but sometimes you can park right in front of the cafe.

Great atmosphere, great food and Christina was a great server! We went on Christmas eve and the place was happy and full of cheer.

Absolutely amazing little place with the most delightful wait staff. And as an artist myself I appreciate the local art on the wall(for sale at that) and the homley vibe that you get as soon as you walk through the door. I had the avocado burrito and a friend had the French dip with chips. Both were exquisitely crafted along with crisp mimosas to wash it down. One of the best brunches I've had in a while.
