Beautiful, kid-friendly hike along the Occoquan. There are a couple of nice spots to walk down to the water or splash in a creek. Parking fills up on the weekends, so I recommend heading out early.

Awesome trail, easy with kids. Parking on the weekend can be difficult since it's just next to a vineyard. Lots to explore!

Nice quiet trail. Great for hiking bird watching. There is a large number of herons at certain times of the year. In mid march to early april the Virginia bluebells blossom and it transforms into almost a fairy landscape with those beautiful flowers carpeted everywhere. Also great all seasons.

I lived at Hemlock from the mid 90s to the mid 00s. Coming back here is like coming home.
I love these woods and have a deep affinity to them.
This trail is relatively easy.
Downhill pretty much the whole way which unfortunately means when you are ready to go home you are looking at an uphill walk.
Head upstream and see the hydro electric dam ruins or walk up to the bridge Where the train crosses over.

Where my husband proposed to me on a hike with our senior pup. We can't wait to go back in Spring for some awesome pictures and memories with our current pup whom is new to hiking. Great place for mushroom pics and plenty of birds and interesting and beautiful insects.

The trail is beautiful and peaceful, and full of wildlife!
I will warn that I did see a raccoon a little after 10 in the morning, near the trail as it bends back along the river, maybe a mile or so in from the Occoquan trail head. He looked a bit young, and he ran off when he saw me, but just a heads up to any hikers in that area. Raccoons are nocturnal, and if they're seen during the day, they may be sick (rabies). Just a heads up.

A railroad track runs through this park and it runs along the Occoquan River. Great place to take your dog. The trail is hilly in places. Very few people on the trail. Limited parking on the Yates side. There is an adventure camp for kids here. On most weekdays there will be groups of 5th graders at various points in the adventure camp. But the kids dont go into the trail to my knowledge. So dont be concerned about being disturbed on your run/walk/jog.
There is a spot you can launch boats from. There are also horse trails.
There is winery just outside the park entrance on the Yates side.

A little muddy a few days following some heavy rain but so worth it. The only drawback is the parking situation but I managed to find a spot.
