Montana Gold Bread Co

We happened to drive by on our way to Dogma and was intrigued. We'd been on the hunt for a good bakery. We stopped in and got the lunch box. It was amazing. So delicious. We are from New Jersey and miss the deli sandwiches. This is up there. Everyone was so helpful and kind. We're a bit sad we discovered this on a Saturday because we have ro wait until Monday to go back.

We came to Montana Gold Bread Co. to pick up dinner rolls for Thanksgiving dinner after reading some rave reviews. We walked into a busy shop with lots of options for breads and baked goods on shelves and racks all around the bakery.

We chose the Old fashioned dinner rolls and the Challah rolls, as well as some honey butter. When checking out, we were graciously offered a sample of some delicious looking breads and baked goods that were on the counter for the purpose of sharing. This was such a lovely and smart gesture for Montana Gold. Instantly we were able to sample the incredible quality of their fresh baked breads, and instantly we were pleased and excited about our purchase. Everything we tried was exceptional, but their sweet potato bread stood out as phenomenal, perfectly sweet without being a full-on dessert.

Our rolls were a big hit at dinner. Both the Old Fashioned rolls and the Challah rolls were incredibly fluffy and had such a nice texture and taste. The honey butter was also a nice touch. I would love to make this a tradition for Thanksgiving, but I know we’ll be back to Montana Gold whenever we’re in the Richmond area. Definitely a Richmond gem and staple.

A CaryTown Diamond that I am giving my 5 pin 📌 📌 📌 📌 📌 Award! It was a very warm welcoming place. The gentleman at the register greeted us with a Smile 😃. The aroma of fresh cooked bread made my senses go wild. I stopped in to buy some banana bread. Wow, it was good! You see I've been buying their banana bread at various stores, but today I went to the bread maker store. It smelled so good that we decided to buy our lunch and eat it there. And then the rain came down. It poured something hard...the rain came down. We had a fun time and was made to feel right at home. After learning that Constance Wu worked here from her book, "Making a Scene", this has been on my bucket list to visit. They use fresh ingredients and make their dough in-house.

It's a very friendly, easy-to-park bakery where one can buy all sorts of bread, cookies, buns, and other baked goods with soft crusts. The staff were incredibly affable, providing lots of great suggestions and a lot of fun to talk with.

There is a dining area and a restroom for one to build and enjoy sandwiches. They also give free samples which convinced me to buy some hot cross buns.

Every time I come here, the atmosphere is welcoming and super positive. I'm informed on any specials, whether for cookies or pastries and new breads. It's super great! The variety of breads are delicious! That's why I make the trip from New Kent to downtown every couple of weeks. It's absolutely worth it.

This local bread/ bakery store still is going strong after 28 years! I still remember when this store opened back in 1994 and like how it’s improved since then. It operates like a well oiled machine, and everyone I saw there appeared very industrious and attentive. I bought several of their cookies and was offered a free fresh baked bread sample. I chose a slice of black Ukrainian bread. Delicious!

Extremely helpful staff. I went in two weeks ago for a loaf of bread to use in French onion soup (I was directed to the English muffin loaf, highly recommend.)
I have been in 3 times since and believe it’s the only place I’ll ever buy bread moving forward.
Highly recommend stopping in on Friday for the fresh focaccia.

A true Richmond classic! The awesome 90's vibe, friendly staff, free warm bread slices, affordable, delicious sandwiches. This small business is a gem that I hope sticks around for many more years. Their box lunches for your staff meeting are way better than Panera and come with a loaded sandwich, pickle, fruit, pasta/potato salad, a mint/candy, and a big, fresh baked good!

As soon as you walk through the door and smell the food you realize you're buying something! Very friendly staff that were helpful from the moment we walked in the door. Samples enticed us to purchase a couple of loaves we weren't considering before arrival. The Cinnamon Walnut Raisin bread was excellent, bought it. The Cinnamon swirl bread was excellent, bought it. Even the Gingerbread cookie was delicious with just the right amount of spice, bought it. We also purchased a cinnamon pecan roll, wish we bought 2! Lastly we got the 9-grain and look forward to enjoying it when we get back home to NC. Not one bit disappointed in any aspect of our visit or purchases.

Lovely local bread bakery that offers a selection of sandwiches, loaves of bread, cookies, jams, and other treats. The gentleman who assisted me gave me a free sample of banana bread and it was very yummy. I also enjoyed the chocolate chip oatmeal cookie.

Wow!! I forgot lunch and ordered delivery. Very impressed. The sandwich is large and don't skimp on toppings. I got chicken salad excellent just right balance of ingredients. I have big appetite and only got through half. Had the other half for late supper.

Found the bakery online and I am so grateful. I purchased a box lunch, oatmeal raisin cookie, peanut butter cookie, a cinnamon roll and a loaf of cinnamon bread. The staff was delightful! Friendly and helpful and willing to provide several sample slices. The turkey swiss sandwich was huge and fresh and the mountain herb bread was amazing. A new favorite stop when I come to town. Actually worth driving to town just to stock up. I live almost 2 hrs away too. Worth the trip!

If you have not been to this store you need to go. Everything is very delicious. I got a multi grain bread loaf, also assorted cookies, cinnamon roll, and garlic knots. We also added banana bread and pound cake. Their prices are very reasonable as well. We also got a jar of apple butter barbecue sauce which was reasonably priced as well. I would highly recommend making this one of your weekly stops to get bread. They also had muffins as well. We will definitely be back.

I’ve lived in Richmond for a little over 2 years and I’ve never stopped by until today - what a mistake! I read about Montana Gold in Constance Wu’s memoir, and the way she described the love and attention that went into their products convinced me. The store was warm and cozy, and the gentleman that helped me at the counter insisted that I try the samples. They had an amazing candy cane chocolate chip cookie - and it was vegan! If you’re looking for vegan goodies, this is definitely the place to go. I had no idea until he told me. It is clear this business values the community and its customers, and I can’t wait to become a regular.

If you haven't been here yet, you're missing out! Montana Gold is a bakery firstly but also a café in that you can get lunch here (mostly sandwiches). The box lunch is a great deal - for around 10 bucks you get a hearty sandwich on their freshly baked bread of your choice (I recommend the chicken salad on Blue Ridge Mountain Herb), a side, fruit, a drink, and a dessert. There are plenty of desserts to choose from including enormous cinnamon rolls and cookies. Do yourself a favor and pick up a loaf of bread, garlic knots, challah rolls, or banana bread. I don't think there is much seating available so it's more of a take away type place. Everyone is super friendly and of course, it smells heavenly inside.

I've been eating here for years and they've never let me down. The sandwiches are great and the desserts are AMAZING. Try the box lunch sometime. It's a sandwich, side, and dessert for about $11. This is a great place to buy loaves of FRESH baked bread too.

We love bread and sandwiches from here! The cinnamon swirl bread makes the best French toast! The sunflower whole wheat makes for delicious avocado toast😍. I get box lunches from here for boating days on the river. Don’t forget to get a bread and sandwich card so you can start earning free loaves and sandwiches. Enjoy!

Today was my first time stopping in Montana Gold. It most certainly will not be the last.

As you walk in, you are greeted with racks on racks of all sorts of delicious looking breads.

If you have a sweet tooth, they have giant, delicious cookies.

My co-worker and I stopped in for a sandwich. We each got a turkey sandwich combo and it was extremely well priced and everything tasted fantastic.

Not to be lost in my food ramblings was how kind the staff was. Everyone we talked to was so helpful in helping me figure out what I should get.

I will easily return to try more breads and I will be haunted by how good the cookies were until I can eat one again.

In fact, you should just stop whatever you're doing at this exact moment and go grab any one of those cookies this minute.
