Dyer Kiln

Love this place! Me and my family love coming here whether it be to walk around or to fish. For those that love to fish there's some nice size bass in the water! My 3 year old loves playing around in the water while me and my hubby fish. I just wish people would pick up their trash and not leave it laying around. We take a bag with us and pick up trash while we're out there. Maybe Bellevue could add some garbage bins throughout to help with the issue.

Thank you for posting so many amazing photos of the Lime Kiln in Bellevue. My Family bought 110 acres in The 1860’s. Part of their property is where the kiln was built.
They were my 3rd Great Grandparents, George W Sturdivant (SturdEvant) and Philinda Cherbino (Charbonneau/Noel) both were born in Addison Co., Vermont.

This was my favorite part of traveling to Bellevue. The Dyer Kiln looks like the ruins of an old Scottish Castle. You cannot go in the kiln, but you can travel around it. A swarm of tree swallows appears to have made the kiln home, as they were flying all around its rafters. They also have a small roadside park next to the kiln with a bench and a picnic table. Historically, the Dyer Kiln was used in the 1800s to burn limestone into mortar from the two quarries across the street, now the Keehne Environmental Area. It was abandoned and left to ruin when the quarries were. But this great piece of history is a must-see for anyone traveling in the Bellevue area.

This is an old Kiln with some kind of marker. Not as interesting as across the street.
