The Hangout Cafe

I was in the area with a friend, looking for a place to grab lunch and we happened to spot this restaurant in the corner of a shopping plaza. It sounded OK and we didn't want to keep looking, so we decided to try it. SO GLAD we did!

Everything was great, from the decor to the service, drinks, appetizers, and entrees! The nachos and street taco appetizers were great, and I was so stuffed that I had to take the Cuban sandwich home. I took a piece of flan home too and that was heavenly!

I hear they have music there on certain weekend nights, so I plan to go back for more!

I've since been back with my sister for brunch, and it was amazing! The bottomless mimosas or bottomless bellinis are worth it!

I’m here now and it’s absolutely delicious ! I was surprised how good it is after I read some of these reviews. I got a huge watermelon drink and the roasted chicken with plantains. It’s more of an upscale restaurant inside than a hangout. It’s a perfect place to bring a date. I’m a hot female n I approve of this place. There’s great live music too! The prices are actually fair for what we got. It’s a restaurant not some fast food place. Not expensive. Not cheap. I recommend ordering extra sweet plantains cause they are fire! Service was great we had Paula. Everyone’s raving about how good their food is and clapping for the musician playing. A woman raved about her salmon and her 5th grade son scarfed his burger down. I’ll be back for sure! Wow.

This is an absolute gem located in Carmel. A real blend of Spanish/American fresh cooking, full of flavor. We were entertained with a wonderful guitarist who sings as well. Make the trip. Support local eateries.

The food was delicious, the service was excellent and the atmosphere was great.

The name is deceptive. I thought this was a coffee shop for the teens hanging out at the local movie theater. But it turns out, The Hangout Cafe is actually a great little restaurant, serving up meals my whole family loved in a semi-upscale-feeling but totally unpretentious setting. Great for a night out with friends, dates, or any night you don’t feel like cooking. Generous portions. Full bar. Attentive service.

The food here is great! I would highly recommend the tres leches - it’s the best I’ve had outside the Caribbean! The cocktail, “not an old fashioned”, is also something I would definitely order again. This restaurant is a gem.

We had an early dinner and the food was excellent. Erika was courteous and prompt. The Famous Cuban sandwich was perfectly made. Get the lemon chicken I stole several pieces from my spouse. Prices are reasonable and a cozy atmosphere. Highly recommend!

I just love this place. Great food and service. Love the live local entertainment. The owners are often there and so grateful for their patrons. I wish I lived closer but it’s so worth the drive.

We watched this restaurant being constructed during covid. That in & of itself was courageous. We just saw the channel 12 news report on what this restaurant, it's owner & staff have been going through. Disgraceful! We couldn't wait to move to Carmel, & we can't wait to move. Such a beautiful area, but the level of hate, fueling racism, & homophobia make it a dark & ugly community! This isn't making America great, it's making America hate! For God's sake we ALL have red blood!! Keep serving up your wonderful food, & stay strong! We stand in solidarity with you. God bless!!!

This restaurant seemed interesting from outside, was pleasantly surprised by how nice it is. It feels clean and fresh. The atmosphere is really chill, the food is bomb 👌🏻👌🏻

Local gem. I love the owner and bartender. They are so personable and make you feel right at home. The place is small and homey but feels like the city in Carmel! The food is an experience. I look forward to going back again and again.

We decided to go for some live music, and was very pleased with the hip vibe and cool decor. The food was awesome, from the salad to desserts. The music was great and really help set the ambience. The service was very sweet, although a few times not attentive, but the music kept us entertained. I would highly recommend this hidden gem! We will be back for sure.

This is my first review ever. We went for Mother's Day. Great food. Great owners/staff as well as entertainment. Love that they have artists come and sing/play/perform. Can't wait to go back!!!

We tried this new place to celebrate our anniversary. Early dinner on Sat.so plenty of seating. The servers were friendly, attentive, and welcoming. The food was fabulous! The Lemon Chicken - ample tender fillets, yellow (saffron) rice. The Shrimp al Ajillo - large tender shrimp. We requested steamed vegetables instead of other sides, perfect for dipping in both delicious sauces. Riquísimo!

I had a wonderful cocktail party for my birthday. The Hangout crew did a great job accommodating my group. The drinks and appetizers were delicious and exactly what I wanted. All of my guests had a fun time!

It's great having a place like The Hangout Cafe so close to home because the atmosphere is friendly and the food is delicious. You can go for a quick bite or have a more formal lunch/dinner. The portions are just right too.
