James Canyon Campground

Right off a main road so can be noisy but for a free campsite, can't complain at all! Nice sites with picnic tables & fire rings, not far from the toilet either. We enjoyed our 3-4 night stay here in tents.

Was driving through to White sands, and needed a place to stop. Pulled up after dark at 8:00 p.m., and surprisingly found it really easy to navigate and set up camp even in the dark. Woke up to see that there were five or six ten spots and two RV spots. About 200 yards from the road across a wash is where the tent spots are, And there is a bridge as well as a public restroom. Overall really good spot to stop, I even added it to my list of good camping.

This was such a cute little place to camp! No running water or anything but they did have drop toilets. We got to see some owls and a beautiful sky from the sunset. We went in the fall and it was pretty windy, so bring extra jackets!

This was a great overnight campsite that was perfect for my small trailer/tent setup. Awesome and clean bathrooms also. I don't know if it would be great for a multiple day stay but it was great location to break up my multi-day drive.

Nice campground. Good restrooms and good tent spots. Beautiful spot for a campsite. Only downside is that you can hear and see cars drive by at night.

Nice camping area, right next to the road going through the forest. Not a bunch of parking and only two sites can have cars next to them.
Very lush green space with pine trees going to the sky.
When I arrived the camp grounds were empty and I was greeted by some crows, would have been nice to have some peanuts for them.
Later about four more groups showed up so a popular place.

just good BBQ ... what else can you say! not a tourist place, just a local favorite

What a delightful surprise for us. 2 camping sites that can each fit a van or even a small class C. Over the bridge are 4 or maybe 5 tent sites. Clean and stocked vault toilets as well. Once quiet evening.

Boondocking. Genenal Store and 2 restaurants and a gas station just down the road, about a mile or so from the campground make a right hand turn when going out. Place has vault toilets.

Great place for pictures! We like coming here every now and then for holiday photo ops on the bridge here or in the tall grass.

Nice chill little picnic area. Like to stop and enjoy the peace and quiet. And it Has bathrooms

Nice quiet place, right off the byway. In the Lincoln National Forest. When I visited, 11/17, there was snow on the northern slopes! Dog and I had a great time

Beautiful location, tucked in a valley, split by a creek, with lots of trees. Small, has picnic tables, well kept vault toilet, very clean.

Small campground, but a great place to stop before heading over the pass.

Nice place to pull over and camp. I car camped and slept peaceful. Didn't notice cars going by. Quite. Its a free site.

Beauty of a small campground! Some tenting sites across a bridge over a dry creekbed and 2 rv spots!

Great little spot. 25 miles outside Cloudcroft. Great for people on a tight budget or even just a quick stop on your way through town.

Good place to camp. Stayed there may 20th. Weather was very nice and the spot was free.
